Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Up n Attem

After a good nights sleep and a nice slow start to the day, BGWLBH and I decided to drive into The Bay.

We needed some girl time.

While there, we changed our whale watching booking to Thursday and took Adoring Husband off the booking. He wasn’t keen to go again.

I bought myself a lovely linen top with some sparkles on the front and I can’t wait to wear it! We have three dates booked for next week so I’ll have the chance on one of those days.

We did a chemist stop on the esplanade and visited ‘Banana Bender’ where they have LOTS of new clothing in store. It was difficult to hold back, but I did!

We realised at 2pm that we were hungry but also realised that it was too late in the day for eating a meal so we decided to drive home and prepare avocado/tuna dip with crackers to fill the hole until dinner time.

As you know, Friday is AH’s night to cook, which gives me a break, but tonight, even though he had done nothing all day except sit on his backside in front of the television, he was asleep when it was time to prepare dinner so bugalugs (that’s me) chose to let him sleep (I don’t know!) and cooked dinner.

Luckily for him I do these things with unconditional love requiring no thanks … because there was none forthcoming.

Being the final round of the season, it’s a big footy night tonight.

Bulldogs defeated Manly (I tipped Bulldogs) and Roosters are currently playing Rabbitohs. It was a tough choice but I landed on Roosters for the win and they are leading 14-0 right now. It’s a tough game with 60 minutes still to be played.

If the rain holds off, we’ll probably head to Howard for the markets in the morning.

We were hoping to attend the Bauple Nut Bash but the weather forecast is not conducive for a fun afternoon there.

Im off to watch the footy now.

Too Tired

I was too tired to write last night and slept for a solid nine hours!

Yesterday, we had coffee with the art girls and Adoring Husband picked me up at 10.15am to drive into town for an appointment.

For various reasons we had to turn around before we even reached the bowls club and it was necessary to phone and reschedule the appointment.

BGWLBH was kind enough to drive me to pick up the FROG box, but we were talking so much we were through Craignish, down the hill and on the straight heading to Eli Waters before we even realised that we missed the turn at Craignish traffic lights!!

It was hilarious really.

We got the box, checked the mail and bought a lamb rack from the butcher.

That pretty much wore us out.

I have to say that I’d had only 4.5 hrs sleep that night (Tuesday) which is why I was too tired to blog last night (Wednesday)! BGWLBH has a sinus infection so the drugs she takes wipes her out for hours at a time.

I cooked lamb rack, sweet potato mash, chard, spinach and snow peas for dinner. I made a mint sauce but it wasn’t much good. We followed that with fruit whip.

Today (Thursday), BGWLBH drove us into The Bay for our appointment and we made a stop at Bunnings for some garden stuff, including a navel orange tree which will be planted in the front garden and trained to grow flat against the fence.

We decided to stop at Salty Squid for takeaway lunch which unfortunately ended up being a huge disappointment for two of us. My calamari was delicious and tender, but my salad was wet and limp. The other two had chicken which was over cooked and tough.

The dessert that we selected - pear and blueberry tart - was absolutely beautiful but we didn’t realise that it had nuts, which BGWLBH is allergic, so she was sad to miss out. It was a bonus for AH and I because it meant we got extra!!

BGWLBH and AH were very conscientious in the garden after lunch, both of them asking me for assistance a couple of times. I wasn’t feeling so conscientious.

After our big disappointing lunch, dinner was a ‘throw together’ of leftovers. I wasn’t hungry so I heated the leftover lamb rack and mash, threw together a salad and took some fruit whip out of the freezer for the others.

AH and I watched a movie and then the football.

Now it’s sleep time again.

I love my bed.

Paradise

Another quiet day in paradise.

I got up at 10am and spent the first twenty minutes of my day searching for Adoring Husband’s reading glasses and car keys.

This is why I stay in bed so late … so that I don’t have to deal with this nonsense!

I made my breakfast and took it to the Bali hut where I sat with BGWLBH. AH was dealing with our financial advisor over the phone and of course had to include me so kept appearing every five minutes with another question.

Tomorrow, we have an appointment to sign paperwork, yet again … seems to be the story of our life.

I made poached eggs with avocado and fresh tomato from the garden for BGWLBH who is still struggling with her sinuses - triggered by an allergy to pumpkin seeds!

I squeezed in 20 minutes of art - still the octopus.

We played some TV trivia for about an hour.

I watched my quiz shows until the stupid news broke in to give us the Chris Dawson verdict and then just kept repeating the information over and over, never returning to show the end of my program - so freaking annoying!

For dinner I made chicken thighs done in thyme, lemon, garlic, mustard, ACV and maple syrup. Delicious!! Served with baked potato and sweet potato, and garlic butter snow peas with shaved zucchini and cherry tomatoes.

Phwoar! It was good!

Fruit whip made with frozen kiwi fruit, frozen mango, frozen banana, frozen pineapple, frozen passionfruit, coconut cream, salt and maple syrup.

Also very good!

More trivia to be played before our shows came on.

A nice relaxing day and tomorrow will be a half day in The Bay after morning coffee with the girls.

I think there will be some more rain tomorrow too.

Real Day of Rest

I stayed in bed til 11am watching the last episode of The Block and Great British Sewing Bee as well as some uncensored news articles regarding the Covid vaccine.

Interesting times ahead.

After 2.5 years of this pandemic, you are either ‘locked in’ to the mainstream story or you’ve found the other side and are watching all the truths currently revealing themselves and looking forward to the results of multiple global stories that will change everything.

We had GF meat pies for lunch with a fruit platter.

We played a little TV trivia but BGWLBH is struggling with her sinuses so she retreated and I watched my quiz shows while Adoring Husband slept in his chair yelling, laughing, talking and jumping all afternoon. I don’t understand how he doesn’t wake himself up!

I napped briefly on the couch before making tacos using turkey mince. They were quite delicious, as was the hot sauce I made to pour over them.

Now I think I’m ready for bed. This weird weather is sapping my energy.

Another quiet day planned for tomorrow.

Day of Rest

For a Sunday, I was up pretty early! I think it was about 8.30am when I made my way to the kitchen to help Adoring Husband cook breakfast.

He already had the bacon in the air fryer, so I poached the eggs while he toasted the bread and we popped a dish of fresh cherry tomatoes from the garden on the table - so sweet and juicy!

My eggs had perfect soft runny yolks and breakfast was delicious. It’s the first Sunday I’ve been up to eat breakfast with my house mates and it was a real pleasure. Usually I lay in bed smelling the deliciousness from afar.

After brekky, we made our tea and coffee and headed out to the Bali hut to enjoy the sunshine and play trivia. We each did a session of reading from our quiz book and played until midday when I decided to have an art session in my art space.

I’m still working on my octopus and it seems to be taking me a bloody long time to do small sections! So far I’ve spent about eight hours on it. Three hours to get this far …

Then three more to get this far …

And two hours today to reach this point …

I reckon I have a good ten hours of work left to finish it.

I wonder if I’m a slow artist? Some people are really fast to create their work, but I seem to take forever - unless it’s paint pouring - that doesn’t take long at all.

BGWLBH found an ornamental frog in the garden. It was looking the worse for wear so I sanded it and painted it green. No pic for that one.

I watched the football this afternoon while AH mowed the lawn at the shops.

Barramundi with sweet potato chips and salad was our dinner.

We watched our favourite reality shows and now I’m in bed ready for sleep.
