Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Avoidance

It’s Easter.

The Easter Classic Fishing comp is on in town.

I am avoiding all contact with the outside world until the comp is over … although I MAY attend the twilight market on Sunday afternoon.

Too many people!

It was a typical day for me today.

6am start.

Cup of tea. Bacon and eggs for breakfast. Play with Harley in the pool area. Added more to my octopus …

Watched a movie. Watched some football. More art. More play with Harley.

Crumbed chicken with coleslaw and garden salad for dinner.

Watched more footy - including my beloved Broncos get beaten by Canberra Raiders - ugh.

Found some photos of the storms in Queensland last night …

Now it’s sleep time for me.

Nite all.

Wiped Out

Yesterday was unpleasant and I spent the day in bed dozing and feeling sorry for myself.

I had a dreadful headache, my body ached like I’d run a marathon and I felt so incredibly lethargic that I struggled to make my way to the loo.

I desperately needed a Panadol but there were none in the house and Adoring Husband was trimming the hedge on the neighbour’s side of the fence.

BGWLBH didn’t even know that I was unwell and was in her room so I didn’t want to disturb her … although, come to think of it, I cared for her over ten days when she was unwell so I should have 😳

Finally, after 7 hours, I dragged myself out of bed to take Harley out to the pool area for some play time - I knew that nobody else had given him any time during the day. All I could manage was to roll the soccer ball off the ottoman over and over and he seemed pretty happy with that.

I discovered AH sitting on his lounge chair so I gave him a frustrated mouthful and he jumped in the car to find me some drugs to ease the headache pain.

After 30 minutes with Harley and after taking a Panadol, I climbed back into bed and left the team to fend for themselves for dinner. They didn’t have to make any decisions or put in any effort when take away fish and chips was their choice.

Anyway, I woke this morning feeling much better! My joints were still a bit sore but the headache was gone and my energy levels definitely improved.

I was able to mix up a batch of Harley’s meals to freeze and have some play time with him.

I did some more art - adding to the octopus …

Watched my quiz show and two games of footy. Very happy that the Dolphins defeated Cowboys!

We’ve had some good rain today … over 100mm including overnight rain. There have been lots of nasty storms throughout Queensland this afternoon and this evening but we were spared from them.

My birthday girl had a lovely day yesterday.

And now it’s time for me to sleep.

Crap Start

For various reasons, which I won’t go into, my day had a fairly crappy start.

Harley and I eventually climbed into the trike and rode down to the Lions Park to meet some of the girls where we hung out for just over an hour. He was a good boy and the weather was glorious with the tide high and the water blue. The park is beautifully manicured ready for the big Easter Fishing Classic this weekend.

The few people who wandered by were very happy and some tradies shared our rotunda while they enjoyed their morning tea.

We were happy to pedal home by 10.30am and to find the house empty. We enjoyed a couple of hours of quiet time before Adoring Husband appeared with the FROG box and good news regarding his medical tests.

BGWLBH arrived home about an hour later.

Harley and I played soccer in the pool area before I cooked dinner - duck breast with mulberry chilli jus, sweet potato chips and buttered beans, snow peas, carrots, onion and spinach.

Tomorrow (6th) is this little treasure’s 2nd birthday …

How time flies.

She’ll have a second 2nd birthday when my parcel arrives next week.

I’m feeling pretty tired and it’s not 10.30pm yet.

Out and About

BGWLBH had an appointment at St Stephens Hospital this morning so we left home early to have breakfast and run some errands beforehand.

We decided to try the new cafe, Table Eleven, on the esplanade (it used to be ‘Simply Wok’) but I can’t give you an honest review because we only had tea and toast. The service was very friendly and fast,  the prices reasonable and the space was clean and fresh. I can’t comment on the food.

After breakfast, we tried to run some errands but, frustratingly, nothing was open before 9am!

So we drove to Stocklands where I purchased clothes and toys for Hazie’s 2nd birthday.

Then we headed to the hospital.

While she attended her appointment, I wandered down the street and found a Japanese Coffee House & Cafe where I ordered a small latte and some GF orange and almond cake.

The cafe was called RoZi 😊

Fancy that!

We then shopped at Nanas Pantry, Petbarn, Heaps Discount, Newsagent, Good Guys, Butcher, Coles, Chemist and I took a card and list of services from the foot massage place.

We stopped at BGWLBH’s storage shed to offload her art, then stopped at the supermarket, another butcher AND checked the mail on our way home.

We arrived home just after 2pm and it took almost an hour to unpack and put everything away!

I spent 15 minutes in the back yard with Harley and his new soccer ball that I got at Petbarn. That was a lot of fun and he loved it!

I put my feet up for an hour to watch one of my quiz shows.

Had another hour with Harley in the pool area and another new bouncy ball.

I cooked snags and vegetables for dinner.

I caught up on all the recordings of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

The time is now rapidly approaching midnight so I’d best sleep.

Next!

Harley and I had a late start this morning!

We got to bed late last night.

Harley’s sleeping pen/cage fills the doorway from my bedroom to the ensuite. Half of it sits on the bathroom tiles and half sits on the bedroom carpet. Harley ‘runs’ hot so he prefers to sleep on the cold tiles most of the time. His pen folds flat during the day, it’s very lightweight and is easy for me to manage.

So I was heading to bed at 10pm when I remembered that I’d put oil of cloves on the grout in the ensuite in the morning. It has to sit for 12 hours before cleaning the tiles and grout. The 12 hours was up.

Clove oil is very toxic for dogs - not just ingesting it, but also breathing it - so I had no choice but to scrub the shower recess at 10pm and attempt to get the smell out of the room.

I was very impressed with the cleaning fluid. It both killed and removed the mould in the grout. I used my Koh sanding sponge block to clean the grout but it didn’t take much elbow grease and it came away easily.

I opened the bathroom window to help clear the air as well as turning on the pedestal fan and directing at the ensuite.

Because I’d been in the room for so long, I couldn’t tell if the clove was still strong or not so I moved the pen into the bedroom just to be on the safe side.

I stayed awake for almost 2 hours checking on Harley often to make sure he wasn’t displaying any of the symptoms of toxicity, which meant it was around 1.30am when I finally fell asleep.

Thankfully, Harley didn’t wake me until 6.15am so I got around 45 minutes longer than usual.

Apart from the usual Harley play and cooking breakfast and dinner, my other pleasure for the day was starting a new piece of octopus art. It’s finger painting!

It doesn’t look much yet, but I’m loving the colours and effect so far.

Dinner was a very disappointing snapper. Thankfully the side dishes were ok.

Crazy Rich Asians is on TV and I think I’ll be falling asleep listening to it.

It’s almost 11pm and I have a big day in The Bay planned.

Nothing Much

It was a rainy night and we had a few scattered showers this morning, the temperature dropped a little and for the first time in months, we didn’t need the air conditioner on all day.

The temperature is going to increase again to the 30s for at least a couple more weeks and there’ll be some big rain in about a week.

BGWLBH is almost back to good health. She did some ironing today and has started short walks in the mornings to rebuild her strength.

We all started the day with bacon and eggs.

Even though it rained on and off, I played in the pool area with Harley for about an hour.

I baked some banana bread.

I added more to the dragonfly art and then decided what my next piece is going to be.

We watched the latest Adam Sandler movie - don’t waste your time on that one.

We watched two games of footy and I cooked a lamb roast for dinner.

The MAFS final dinner party was on - a viewing must with lots of juicy stuff happening.

Now it’s after midnight! Time to sleep.

Nite all.
