Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Witchy Poo

The annual Witches Markets were on in Howard today.

We attended the first year and then missed last year. We thought we’d missed this year too, but I messed up the dates, so when I realised my error, we were pleased not to have missed it after all.

We arrived right on 10am which was the supposed starting time, but the car parks were almost full and there were people everywhere.

The far end was our chosen starting point - at the coffee van - BUT right next door to that was a CoYo Dairy Free coconut ice cream or yoghurt van! So I veered to the right and ordered a small tub of pina colada ice cream which involved vanilla ice cream, crushed pineapple and toasted coconut.

To die for.

I’m drooling just from the memory.

There were many rows of stalls selling everything we love and all related to witches, hippies, fairies, steampunk and old world.

Candles, signs, jewellery, crystals and gemstones, lamps, macrame, Meade of all different flavours, crystal wands, dragons and skulls, witches potions, essential oils, pouches, hats, aprons, plants and pots, dried herbs of all descriptions, hanging mobiles, treasure chests, books and journals, arts and crafts, head massages, shoulder massages, psychic readings, card readings, spirit readings, spirit art and so much more.

I bought gifts for Vegan Chickie and Chicklet and me (of course).

The men who make the giant wizard wands and staffs take orders for walking sticks! So when I’m ready, I’m going to order a wand with giant crystals, braids, ribbons and feathers. I’ll be the coolest elderly disabled person in town!

There were lots of people dressed up as witches and warlocks, wizards, fairies, steampunk and whatever their imaginations allowed. Lots of kids dressed up too.

I had every intention of taking pics today but I was totally distracted and immersed in the vibe so it completely slipped my mind.

We were only gone from the house for less than two hours but I thoroughly enjoyed myself meeting puppy dogs and seeing old friends, learning about different crystals in jewellery and even alcohol tasting (Meade) at 10.30 in the morning! Shocking!

After we arrived home, we jumped in our car so that Adoring Husband could go for his first drive since surgery. We drove around the new estates in town.

I asked AH to cook some snags on the barby for my lunch and planted myself on the couch to watch an old Adam Sandler movie.

I had 30 minutes to kill before the footy started so AH drove me to clean the loos. This way I don’t have to return over the weekend and AH will take his job back on Tuesday morning! Wahoo!

A disappointing game of footy by the baby Broncos tonight, who were convincingly beaten by the Warriors. No excuse that their State of Origin players were being rested.

My tipping is still abysmal and I only have one correct so far this week, out of four.

Ugh 😩

It was fend for yourself night for dinner and AH decided to buy grilled fish and chips from the local take away. For $7.50 he received this tiny piece of cod …

Certainly not meal enough for a man. We won’t return.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Nite all.

Worthy Winners

Congratulations to the Queensland State of Origin girls for their amazing win over NSW last night..

Congratulations to the NSW State of Origin men’s team for their heavy hitting, dirty play that led to their win on Wednesday night. (That’s for Adoring Husbands benefit)

Thursday was still recovery day from crab purging. I needed to rehydrate and rest up to regain some energy.

By the end of the day, I was ok to go do the cleaning for Adoring Husband and cook my chicken pot pie for dinner. We played some trivia before watching the girls win State of Origin.

Today would have been my Mum’s 84th birthday …

Today, BGWLBH invited me into town and I needed to get some healing goodies for AH who has been coughing, sneezing and blowing his nose since he returned from hospital.

I’ve been dosing him up with colloidal minerals, colloidal silver, probiotics, Manuka honey and now olive leaf extract, fisherman’s friends and strepsils. He’s remained pretty stable without falling into the abyss of full blown man flu.

We drove in at about 9.30am and decided to have breakfast at OCD on the esplanade. They were a bit slow, the staff were very friendly and the food was acceptable. Nothing flash and reasonably priced but by the time we were served and we’d finished our breakfast, it was almost lunch time!

It was a good day and the weather was glorious. Considering it’s school holidays, it wasn’t too busy. On the way home we stopped at Farm Gate, the chemist, the butcher and the supermarket and it was 3pm when we pulled in the driveway.

AH cooked dinner and I did the cleaning at the loos. Just five more sleeps and he’s back at work wahoo!

I’m very unhappy that Bulldogs defeated Sharks tonight. I’ve been tipping Bulldogs every week and I ALMOST changed my tips before the game but decided against it. They won by one point!

Tomorrow is the Witches Market in Howard so it’s time to sleep.

Bad Crab

On Tuesday I enjoyed the crab meat that I purchased on Monday.

On Wednesday I purged said crab.

I knew my illness was food related this time because I had all the yuk symptoms like stomach cramps, temperature, cold and clammy one minute, hot and shaky the next, waves of nausea, acid reflux and I couldn’t get comfortable in my bed.

It was very unpleasant because I couldn’t leave my bed to reach the loo so I had to purge into plastic bags. Lucky it wasn’t both ends or I’d have been in real trouble!

Needless to say, I have been in my bed all day (it started at 3am) and it was probably 1pm when the discomfort left me and I could snuggle down into a sleeping position.

Adoring Husband did the cleaning - luckily the messiest shop owners were not in attendance today, so the work required minimal effort.

Now, the State of Origin football is about to start so I’m going to get comfortable and watch it from my bed.

I Like Mondays

Dame Judi Dench in her own words:

"Don’t prioritise your looks my friend, as they won’t last the journey.

Your sense of humor though, will only get better with age.

Your intuition will grow and expand like a majestic cloak of wisdom.

Your ability to choose your battles, will be fine-tuned to perfection.

Your capacity for stillness, for living in the moment, will blossom.

Your desire to live each and every moment will transcend all other wants.

Your instinct for knowing what (and who) is worth your time, will grow and flourish like ivy on a castle wall.

Don’t prioritise your looks my friend,

they will change forevermore, that pursuit is one of much sadness and disappointment.

Prioritise the uniqueness that make you you, and the invisible magnet that draws in other like-minded souls to dance in your orbit.

These are the things which will only get better."

Harley had me up and down through half of Saturday night because he had diarrhoea. He sleeps in my room so when he tells me he has to go, I’m going to listen!

So Sunday was a wipeout for me. I slept for 3 hours in the afternoon.

Thankfully, BGWLBH made a bunch of salads and all I had to do was cook the chicken for dinner.

Today, we drove into The Bay with a long list.

Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, some meat for dinner, big tubs of dairy free/gluten free coconut & raspberry ice cream and one of passionfruit from the ice creamery. Two bags of crab meat from the fisheries. Fresh bread, boxes of GF cereal for Adoring Husband, the winning OzLotto ticket, fresh GF carrot cake from Su Jus and so much more.

I’m exhausted.

It’s after 11pm and it’s time to sleep.
