Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Relaxing All Over

Excess deaths in 30 countries

Swimming … alone AND with Harley.

Playing with Harley. All three of us took turns throughout the day.

Watched an old 1972 movie “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” starring Paul Newman, Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins, Jacqueline Bisset  and Victoria Principal along with many familiar faces like Stacie Keach.

Dozing on the couch in the afternoon.

Resting in bed before cooking dinner.

Honey garlic chilli chicken with mash, coleslaw and garden salad.

Watching the Woman’s Tennis Final right now while Adoring Husband snores in the chair beside me.

BGWLBH did some art.

I think we are attending the markets in the morning and taking Harley with us - that should be an interesting experience - his first market and first time walking through crowds. A good training opportunity.

I shall now go to bed and watch the final set of the tennis.

Almost Over

The Australian Open tennis is almost over for another year.

Today was fabulous tennis with Tsitsipas and Djokovic both winning so they’ll meet in the final on Sunday. What a great match that will be! I can’t wait!

Two strong women in Rybakina and Sabalenka to play tomorrow and the men’s doubles will be great with a couple of unseeded Aussies fighting for the trophy. They wiped out the number one seeds to get here so good luck to them!

Harley had quite a few swims today and now he’s diving in the deep end and completely submerging himself before swimming his laps! What a daredevil he is.

The water is very warm now so it’s not as refreshing as it could be. Today, we put the umbrella up to provide some shade and hopefully cool the water down. I dislike swimming in a warm pool.

We spent some time in the art space but I didn’t do any art. BGWLBH did. She powers through all sorts of different art ideas. She’s a freak.

She prepared this delicious platter for lunch today …

I didn’t eat lunch.

I dozed on the couch for about 30 minutes.

Adoring Husband spent about seven hours on his feet, clearing out his shed and doing some odd jobs around the yard - not good for his injured foot so we’ll see how that pulls up tomorrow.

The usual chicken wings for dinner, followed by some TV trivia before the tennis started.

I think I require an early night - the tennis has been keeping me up past my usual bed time and it’s catching up with me.

Recovery

My liver is struggling right now. Struggling to filter all the crap in those lollies.

There are certain signs that I know to look for when my liver is struggling. After I was prescribed almost ‘overdose’ quantities of thyroid medication in 2008, I’ve had some liver dysfunction which is also associated with my many food sensitivities - gluten, lactose, some seafood, peach skin, egg, MSG, lots of preservatives, additives, food colouring etc

Prior to my thyroid condition (which, by the way, no longer exists) I was allergic to sea perch, sea scallops and peach skin. Those allergies only appeared in my mid 30s.

I am experiencing my usual signs - joint pain, stomach pain, diarrhoea, lethargy and other things that would be ‘too much information’ for here. If I’m very careful and do the right things, it usually lasts for two or three days.

Tomorrow will be day three and I am already feeling a lot better, so perhaps a good night of sound sleep will nip it in the bud.

I took it easy today to aid in my recovery process and ate very lightly, drinking lots of filtered water, sitting in the sun and resting.

Harley had a twenty minute swim in the pool. He swims until he becomes water logged, which makes his body sit lower in the water, which wets his ears, which he does not like so he high tails it to the exit step! But he is a very confident and strong swimmer.

He was a good boy today.

BGWLBH spent the day in The Bay and Adoring Husband delivered keys to a new business owner at the local shops and then met a concreter for a quote.

I watched some tennis, the Love Island Australia finale from last year and an art show.

Bangers, mash, beans, snow peas, carrots and tomato & onion gravy for dinner.

We played TV trivia for an hour after dinner.

I’m now watching the Tsitsipas vs Lehecka quarter final of the tennis. I think I’ll be falling asleep to this one. It will probably be a four or five setter. I’d like Tsitsipas to win.

Sickly Sweets

Last week, I stupidly bought lollies from the Christmas shop.

They are full of preservatives and colours and additives and sugar and have made me feel very unwell.

I ate them two nights in a row. The first night and following day, I felt a bit ‘off’ but the second night really did me in so last night and today have been torturous! The pain in my stomach and intestines has been so uncomfortable that I’m throwing these giant, expensive bags of toxic poison in the bin.

Ugh 🤢

Today, I spent a lot of time in bed or lying down trying to find a comfortable position to ease the pain.

Harley got to have a long swim. He swam round and round for about 20 minutes. He just loves the water.

I watched some tennis, napped on the couch and found enough energy to cook dinner for Adoring Husband and BGWLBH.

Now it’s time for me to sleep the residual pain away.

Just Like Dory

It has been a big Harley day.

I decided to take him for a 30 minute walk this morning because he had a lot of energy to expel and we needed some practise with the new harness and leash. He did well but needs work on the loose leash walking.

He was pretty puffed and hot when we got home so I took him for a swim in the pool …

He had three swims today and each one lasted longer than the one before. He just keeps swimming … like Dory in Finding Nemo!

Then we played fetch.

I cooked bacon and eggs for our breakfast.

Adoring Husband went to work mowing lawns.

I spent time in the art space but not doing art.

I spent time in my bed getting away from super energised Harley.

I swam laps in the pool with Harley.

I watched a little bit of tennis.

I did a baked dinner with a whole chicken and vegetables. Even Harley got a baked dinner!

I spent an hour helping AH search for his reading glasses and I eventually found them inside his moon boot. Where else would you put your reading glasses??? Seriously!?

AH started to go to bed at 8.30pm but by the time the glasses debacle was over, it was 10.10pm by the time he actually got there.

Poor Harley didn’t get to bed until 9.30pm which is way past his usual bed time!

Sleep time for me now.
