Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Another Hump Day

I was abruptly woken this morning at 6.30am by the neighbours concretors slamming the ground in preparation for the cement truck.

The noise made the whole house vibrate and the slamming happened every 5 seconds. There was no respite for about 45 minutes.

It would have been nice for our neighbours to warn us because it was not a pleasant way to wake up.

Adoring Husband had errands to run in The Bay so he escaped the noise quite early.

Quite a while later, BGWLBH and I couldn’t listen to the foul language coming from those workers any longer and we decided a trip to The Bay was in our immediate future.

We enjoyed a few hours pottering around town like the pair of old women that we are, did some groceries, got some juice and were home before 2pm.

AH was on the phone with an operator attempting to install ‘outlook’ email on his new laptop - apparently he had been on the phone for almost two hours, but it was a successful call.

I enjoyed a roast pork sandwich for a late lunch.

AH cooked spaghetti bolognese for dinner.

We all played trivia for an hour.

It’s now almost midnight and I need sleep.

Self-care Tuesday

It was tough getting out of bed this morning because it was 1am when I fell asleep and my alarm sounded at 6.30am.

By the time I found the motivation to move, I’d given myself a tight time frame to get ready and to leave.

Meditation had already started when I walked through the door.

Oopsy.

As always, it was a great class.

Hoop qi gong was also great.

It kind of amazes me how well I can follow The Gypsy and her hooping moves, while the others struggle with their co-ordination and confidence.

What is simple for me, is very difficult for others and after ten weeks, they are still not able to do the simplest move. Even if they “get it” one week, by the next week they’ve forgotten and then they are so hard on themselves, they have trouble “getting it” again.

It’s strange, but interesting to watch.

Hooping is not a big deal. There is no pressure. It’s about movement, fun and creating good energy. You don’t have to perform and you don’t have to compete. It’s just for you.

But these girls/women are self conscious, insecure and lacking in self confidence.

From the beginning, I didn’t care if I got it right or not. It’s not a big deal and while I would always attempt everything shown, it didn’t matter to me if I stuffed up. It’s not life or death. Just relax into it and have fun.

After classes, I had 90 minutes with The Gypsy and then rode to the supermarket where I grabbed some papaya, strawberries and watermelon as well as an Asian salad mix and some fresh sourdough bread. I also bought some junk food, which I now regret.

I got ham from the butcher so that I could make a fresh sourdough sandwich for lunch … which I did.

I had a short nap on the couch before Harley play and time in the kitchen making mini meatballs with a sweet spicy dipping sauce, Asian salad and pineapple, avocado, capsicum, pear, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, goats cheese and garlic bread made with the sourdough.

I ate half a papaya and a slice of garlic bread.

Right now, I’m enjoying my guilty pleasure - Love Island - from my bed.

I’m also ready for sleep.

Nite all.

Start the Week

I’m very tired.

I woke very early, to the sound of Adoring Husband banging and crashing in the kitchen and 20 minutes later a text from BGWLBH came through, inviting me to accompany her to The Bay.

We were expecting a guy to arrive at 8am to quote replacing the insulated ducting for our air conditioner because, after 11 yrs, it’s all collapsing - especially after last summer when we had the air con working 24 hrs per day for about 3 months straight.

We girls didn’t want to be here for that.

It was decided to eat breakfast in town, so we chose Sea Breeze Restaurant on the esplanade.

Simple, inexpensive cuisine that tasted delicious, a lovely ambience, very friendly service, local art for sale on the walls and I felt very comfortable. I liked it a lot.

Before breakfast, we stopped at Stocklands. It was nice and early, so the carpark was almost empty and we were able to check our lotto, go the bank, grab a coffee while we waited for JBHIFI to open, run Adoring Husband’s errands (usb sticks and socks) and finally, stock up on balls from Petbarn for Harley.

More grocery shopping was on the to do list - it’s never ending 🫤

We were home by 2pm and Harley greeted us very loudly with his special ‘talk’. I think he was saying “Mum! Thank God you’re home! I missed you so much! Do you want to play now?”

I let AH unpack our shopping and I changed out of my good clothes so that I could play with Harley.

I ate my leftovers from last nights dinner, as did BGWLBH. AH had a couple of toasted sandwiches.

Somehow, it is now 12.30am and I need to sleep because it’s meditation day tomorrow!

Simple Sunday

I slept well and woke quite early for a Sunday.

Before I took Harley out to play, I packaged his chicken feet snacks and put them in the freezer and chopped a saucepan full of vegetables to make his meals for the next week.

While the vegetables were simmering, I took Harley out to play.

After play, I put on a load of washing and decided to make some cheesy pastries for a snack.

While they were in the oven, I mixed up all the goodies for Harleys meals - 3kgs raw mince, 2 raw eggs, hemp oil, best mate powdered mix, another mix for joint strength and the veggies (sweet potato, celery, carrot, beans, asparagus, zucchini, broccoli). It made ten meals.

Adoring Husband was busy defrosting the little freezer at the end of the kitchen bench and we decided to dedicate it to Harley’s food.

I got a 2nd load of washing on and sat down to watch the movie “Pitch Perfect” which I’d seen before but still enjoyed very much.

After Harley’s afternoon play, I started dinner. Quarter chicken marinated in apricot sauce, with garlic green beans and asparagus and I made some grated potato pockets filled with carrot, capsicum, red onion, chopped bacon, half a cherry tomato and sprinkled with grated cheese.

I didn’t eat dinner but the others enjoyed it.

No trivia tonight because we watched The Voice finale. I was so happy that my favourite, Reuben, won! I was certain that Skye was the planned winner to keep the ‘woke’ community happy.

Anyway, after 4 hours in the kitchen, I’m ready to sleep now.

It seems Google is not allowing me to add pics to this post. Bugger.

Nite all.
