Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Night Swim

Considering nobody walked through the door until 11.30am it was a good morning in the shop.

Adoring Husband and Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair arrived at 12.30pm and we filled in 30 minutes until closing time.

Then we were off on our lunch and movie date.

Aquavue and Jumanji.

Aquavue disappointing.

Jumanji a bit of fun.

Stop off at Craignish cafe for a hamburgers without bread for dinner (their only gluten free option). I gobbled my food down on the way home and lucky I did!

Arrived home to a psychotic dog mess so while AH and BGWLBH ate their dinner, I huffed and puffed through the house cleaning mess and dogs.

My best option from there was a night time swim under the stars. It was lovely and I’d have liked to sit under the Bali hut for a while but the mozzies scared me off.

In bed by 9.30pm and definitely ready to sleep!

But just before I sign off, here is Vegan Chickie looking fabulous before heading off to a wedding!

Move Along

Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair and I left on foot and on trike to go visit the boys at The Seat of Knowledge early this morning before work.

The boys were pleased to see BGWLBH.

I think the Seat of Knowledge is pretty quiet these days now that The Gnome has gone into care. When I first came to town, there were ten old blokes who spent at least an hour every morning on the seat.

Three of them have passed on, two have moved out of the area, one is unable to leave his house, one is in care, one visits infrequently and that leaves two old boys who now sit there every day.

I told them it was time to recruit some young blood to continue the tradition!

Our visit lasted about 30 minutes.

By the time we bought our coffee and arrived at the shop, it was almost 8.30am.

Adoring Husband arrived to help open the shop and then drove BGWLBH home. They spent the morning in The Bay again.

My day at the shop was pretty quiet as far as sales go, but I was visited by The Brains Trust, Beauty and Blonde Bombshell and not all at the same time, which was lovely.

I kept myself busy doing the write up for our new happy/healthy workshop, paying bills, starting an email register for our workshop participants and other ‘stuff’.

I pedalled home, sat under the Bali hut for half an hour with BGWLBH, had a swim, did some washing, took clothes off the line and put the clean stuff away and then sat down to start a game of trivial pursuit.

We were halfway through that when we prepared a quick dinner of chicken and salad before continuing the game. It was from a difficult box of trivia (we have just about every box of Trivial Pursuit ever made) and we struggled for a couple of hours until AH and I conceded defeat and gave the win to BGWLBH who had the most pieces of pie.

It was only 8.30pm but we all headed straight to bed and here I am sitting up in bed typing this while AH watches “The Fugitive” on TV.

I think I’m ready to sleep. We have a big day planned tomorrow!

Another One Bites the Dust

The days seem to be passing extra quickly!

I think it’s because Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair is going home soon and I’m working every day so I don’t get to spend as much time with her as I’d like. Trying to squeeze all the fun stuff into the hours we have is tricky!

It was another good day at the shop and some of the ladies came to retrieve their art from the weekend workshop. They also put their names down for next weeks class. One of them gave me a huge hug and said how pleased she was to have found me! How nice is that!?

I wrote up a blurb about myself and my photography, then laminated it and attached it to the shelving where some of the photos are displayed.

BGWLBH picked up my photo from the framers while she was in The Bay doing some shopping, and Adoring Husband delivered it to me this afternoon. The lady who ordered it will pick it up tomorrow.

I ordered some stock, did some cleaning, enjoyed some customer time, and received lots of pics from Vegan Chickie ...

That was my best entertainment for the day. I’d love to see something like this myself! One day.

I also enjoyed a dip in the pool this afternoon, after which BGWLBH and I teamed up to create a deliciously healthful dinner of duck breast, sweet potato chips and a variety of salads.

Two games of trivia. BGWLBH won the first one, then she and I drew the second game. At 9pm it felt like 11pm so we abandoned play and all headed to bed.

TGIF tomorrow.

Three Down

We’re all exhausted!

Adoring Husband and Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair finally had their movie date today - in the deluxe cinema!

They saw the new Star Wars movie which goes for 2 hours 45 minutes. I reckon you need the deluxe comfort if you’re going to watch a movie that long!

Afterwards they ran some errands that I’d listed.

Meanwhile I was having a busy and successful day at the shop selling, among other things, one of my BIG photos. It’s almost time for me to do another multi print run of some new photos to build up the selection to choose from.

I responded to some emails, designed some signs, began a stock order, watered the plants, rearranged the photo display, packed up the Christmas decorations and served some of my favourite customers,

The day passed very quickly and I was surprised when AH walked through the door at 2.40pm.

BGWLBH was lazing by the pool when I arrived home, so I got changed out of my work clothes, went for a dip and then lazed on the other end of the couch until it was time to prepare dinner.

BGWLBH began work on some of our signs while I cooked.

As we enjoyed dinner, we all three realised that this evening, none of us had the brain power to even consider trivia or any other game. So we all went our separate ways earlier than usual.

The house is currently very quiet.

Last weekend, to experiment with, and test a certain natural therapy, I began listing my life stresses and traumas by year. In theory, these traumas will be cleared and released during treatment.

Surprisingly, I discovered that since the age of three, I’ve only experienced three full years in my life where a major stress or trauma did not occur, so with hindsight, I’m pretty impressed with my resilience!

Even though some of those earlier traumas contributed to some of my questionable life decisions in the early years, in the long term, I’ve done ok.

All of those experiences have also added value, such as my ability to empathise, sympathise, push through, overcome, recover from, move forward and always be hopeful of a positive result or outcome.

Hopefully that’s what life does. It makes us older and wiser and brings with it the opportunity to nurture some great attributes through our experiences.

Anyway, just thought I’d touch on that before signing off for the night.

Nite all.

Another One

Another day zipped by so fast!

We were very light on for morning coffee with only three ladies to welcome Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair to town. Adoring Husband manned the shop so that I could have some time with them.

BGWLBH took some of my paintings from the shop to attempt some embellishing with all the crafty bits that we bought on Monday, but it didn’t quite work as we’d planned.

I had a busy day in the shop selling many small items and creating the three new ads for the local newsletter. There were a few changes that had to be made to the originals.

AH arrived right before 3pm to help close the shop so that we could take psychotic dog Colli to the vet. She has attempted to bite AH three times in the last few days and we’re worried that she might be in pain because this has never happened before.

The vet tells us that she has arthritis in her front left shoulder and back left hip, plus she has a tender spot on her back probably from jumping off the lounge chair.

Aside from some pain relief on her bad days, hemp oil and/or hemp seeds in her feed will help.

The vet also said she would have guessed Colli to be 12yrs old rather than almost 15, and the fact that all three dogs turn 15 this year says a lot for how we care for them.

I told them that I look after my family very well and I bet they would never guess AH was turning 80. “doesn’t he look good for his age too?” I asked.

They looked at me and they looked at AH and looked back at me in awe and I laughed at them and said “I’m just joking!”

They said “Oh we were ready to come live at your house!” and laughed.

We’ve made an appointment for psychotic dog Ruby to see the vet next week about her sight and hearing and skin allergies.

BGWLBH and AH postponed their movie date til Wednesday and now I have a long list of errands for them to run after the movie!

We played trivia again this evening, with a nice big cocktail glass full of Margaritas, and BGWLBH and I ended up agreeing on a draw when both of us filled our piece with all the colours but couldn't quite finish by answering the final centre question!

I’m a bit weary so I’m ready for sleep now.

Nite all.

Another Full One

Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair and I spent the entire day in The Bay.

We shopped til we dropped, purchasing clothes, jewellery, underwear, craft items, pens, food, toys, dvds, Boost juices, hair straightener, food covers, bamboo cloths and more.

I ducked into Coles for some meat for dinner before we drove home in the beautiful drenching rain. The dull grey skies opened up and it was so pretty to watch. The grass, plants and trees are already greener and the air smells fresh. It’s been way too long since we got that much wet stuff.

We’ve had well over an inch of rain since Friday night but we can’t be certain exactly how much because AH forgot to put the rain gauge back out when he cleaned it.

BGWLBH and I sat down and selected some quotes that we want to embellish my paint pours with and on Wednesday we’ll gather together the bits and pieces to get to work on them.

Tomorrow is movie date day for Adoring Husband and BGWLBH. They are going to see the new Star Wars movie together. I’m not a fan so I’m pleased to have someone else share the experience with AH.

I’m definitely ready for an early night because all that walking and shopping has worn me out!

Work tomorrow.

Nite all.

Full of Trivia

A lazy Sunday started in bed, moved to the pool, followed by grazing over plate full of healthful goodness, then we attached ourselves to the trivia board all afternoon and ended with a delicious hot meal of meat and vegetables.

A perfect way to spend a Sunday.

We have tentative plans for Monday, dependant on a few things falling into place.

Nothing else to report really.

I found this old photo of myself with little Chicklet taken about 7 years ago. How cute is she!?
