Tricky little buggers to photograph when they are so busy trying to gather all the goodness!
I'm lazy and selfish and spend too much time on the internet. I love to be creative with photography and jewellery and sketching with pencil and pastels. I'm happier now than I have ever been and I love everything about my life ... where I live, my home, my fantastic grown up children, my lifestyle, my friends, my dogs and last but not least my wonderful adoring husband. Life is good!
Nice to see you!
Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.
Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.
Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**
Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!
So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!
Welcome to my dilemna!!

Bee Happy
Camping Heaven
There was a Caravan and Camping Expo in Maryborough today.
I agreed to go with Adoring Husband and check out the camping gear.
I hate camping.
You need to understand my history with camping/caravaning.
I travelled around Australia and lived in a caravan with my parents for seven years as a child.
My camping experiences in a tent, were all with my previous partner, and we really roughed it out bush, in a two man tent on the banks of the Lachlan River.
Walking a hundred yards with a shovel and a roll of toilet paper to do our 'business'. Cooking in the camp oven over the hot coals of an open fire. Bathing in the river.
We camped like this at least once a month and over a three or four day, long weekend.
In the beginning it was a bit of fun or a novelty, but that soon wore thin and became less and less enjoyable as I got older and less agile. This went on for almost thirteen years ***groan***.
So now I have Adoring Husband, who loves to camp and caravan, and has done so regularly for most of his life.
He has always done it in style and comfort though, so his experiences are all pleasant and enjoyable.
Now that we have taken up photography as a hobby and possible business (down the track), he has suggested that we go camping, so that we can be in the right place at the right time for dawn and dusk photographic opportunities.
Initially I flatly refused to do this.
After today and seeing all of the camping and caravaning options available, I am warming to the idea.
Of course the $278,000 Winnebago was absolutely delightful and if I was going to move out of my house and live in a mobile vehicle ... the Winnebago would be a MUST!!
However, we would only be taking a couple of days here and there, so I am very inclined to go with the $15,000 camper trailer with the huge bed and the fabulous roof that reduces the Summer heat in the tent considerably.
It's something to consider seriously and perhaps do a little more research into.
I sense that Adoring Husband is beginning to feel a tingle of excitement at the remote possibility of re-establishing his caravan/camping lifestyle.
So while Adoring Husband was in Camping Heaven today, I was just feeling the water with my big toe.
Let's see what the future has in store!

Bush walk No 1
So today was our first attempt to search out the water hole.
We knew it wasn't too far into the bush and we knew there was a track leading towards the water hole, so we drove behind a Kaz's house and she pointed the way towards the track.
At the same time she said "It may be grown over because we haven't been in there for a while."
Ya think!!!???
We walked for a good fifteen minutes, through quite thick scrub. The only tracks to be found were kangaroo tracks that were barely tracks at all.
Last week there had been some back burning done in the area in preparation for the hot Summer, so there were large patches of ground that were burnt black with clumps of grass stubble everywhere.
These parts were easy to walk over.
Finally, in the distance, we could see a large clearing, so we began walking towards it.
Abruptly, we had to stop, as our feet began sinking into some very wet ground.
Clearly, the rains in January had flooded this area, so the water hole was now surrounded by swamp land that didn't appear to have receded much since the floods.
We decided to walk further around to see if there may be a dryer area to follow to the water hole.
Along the way, we found a small clearing that looked like it may have been somebody's makeshift home. There were a couple of blankets soaked into the ground, a broken plastic chair and some other odds and ends.
The ground was still very damp there, so no-one would have been able to sleep there for quite some time.
We kept walking, but each time that we turned to walk closer to the water hole, the swampland appeared.
In the end we decided to walk back to the main road and follow it back to Kaz's place for the car.
I was surprised by Adoring Husband's amazing inner compass, when we came out of the bush onto the main road, directly opposite the local pub!!
By now, a single photo had NOT been taken. The only bird that we had seen was a dirty old Ibis off in the distance and it was too far away to photograph.
We decided to walk across the road to the pub and have drink while we decided what to do next.
We had been walking for an hour by this point. Adoring Husband was carrying the big backpack with most of the camera gear in it, as well as waving around the folded tripod to get rid of the cobwebs in our path.
I was carrying my camera, which weighs almost 3kgs with the big lens on it.
I was OVER it.
Unlike my brother, who can walk through the bush for hours on end and think nothing of it, 'I' am not much for 'roughing' it.
By now, my shoes were wet and muddy, my jeans were wet and blackened by the burnt stubble and as it was getting closer to midday, the humidity and heat were building up.
I was feeling hot and bothered and ready to give up.
We agreed to walk back to the car and for Adoring Husband to come back another day, on his own, and figure out a way into water hole.
I like that idea. He can do the hard bit and I will come in at the end and take advantage of his brilliance.
So we came home completely empty handed.
Not a single photo!
During our trek through the bush, we didn't come across any wildlife. There were no obvious bugs or creepy crawlies. No snakes, no birds, no kangaroos, no nothing!
It might be a few days before we go for another attempt, but there will definitely be another attempt!
Clearly bush walk number one has been a failure. Let's wait and see what number two brings!
Nite all.

Cheap Tuesday
Adoring Husband and I took ourselves to the movies for 'cheap Tuesday' today, and then to 'Aquavue', on the water front, for lunch.
At our local cinemas, it only costs $9 to see a movie on Tuesdays.
We saw 'Red Dog'. A good Aussie movie. Watch this for the preview.
The dog died. That really doesn't give anything away because the very start of the movie indicates that we are at the end of the dog's life, and so the story begins.
Everybody cried except me.
Adoring Husband warned me before the movie, that if the dog died, I was going to be in big trouble.
The last thing that Vegan Chickie said as we walked out the door this morning, was "I hope the dog doesn't die!"
So to stop myself from crying during the movie, I imagined myself running in the door at home and calling out to Vegan Chickie "So! The dog died!"
It took the edge off the sadness and reduced the size of the lump in my throat.
Lunch, after the movie, was delicious. We ate Honey Soy Chicken Salad.
The view was lovely with the sunlight dancing on the water and lots of activity with holiday makers riding jet skis and kayaks, couples walking along the beach and kids playing football or building sand castles.
There was a real holiday atmosphere.
I have one photo of Chicklet to share with you today.
Tomorrow, Adoring Husband and I are going bushwalking to search out the secret water hole, where, apparently, there is abundant birdlife, the likes of which, don't show their pretty little faces in town.
So hopefully, we will get some fabulous shots to share with you.
Tuesday has been cheap and cheerful. Let's see what Wednesday brings.

Productive and Happy
I received a lovely email from BGWLBH today. I don't get them very often, so when I do, it really makes my day :o)
Adoring Husband rushed in this morning after work asking me if I wanted to go with him to photograph the pelicans on the beach.
He packed the car with his camera gear and rushed off, while I agreed to meet him down there on my trike.
By the time I dressed myself, got the Psychotic Dogs out of bed, let them out to do their business, packed my camera gear in the back of the trike, called psychotic dogs back inside and left the house, almost thirty minutes had passed.
I figured that the pelicans would be gone by then ... they don't stick around in one place for long, unless there is a lot of food about.
So I pedalled to the bakery, got my coffee and as I headed off toward the Seat of Knowledge, Adoring Husband overtook me, calling out that the pelicans had gone (just as I suspected!).
He stopped off at the Seat of Knowledge and showed me some of the photos on his camera and I looked forward to seeing them on the computer screen, but he later informed me that they were all a disappointment on the bigger screen. Such a shame.
So later, after I began pedalling home, I wanted to take a different route and possibly stop to find some flora or fauna to photograph.
I stopped at my usual water hole and found some newcomers ...
I found a nice little spot, not far from my usual route, with trees, water, reeds and tracks leading through the bush (which I did not follow this time).
I parked my trike off the road and went for a wander.
I interrupted a couple of kookaburras in the 'mating' process. I think they were a bit annoyed with me and the mate to this one came in quite aggressively and they flew off together.
By the tree was a wild wattle bush. It was too windy to use the macro lens so I used the zoom lens. It still didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, but I really like the contrast between the sharp, spiky leaves and the soft, fluffy flowers.
On the way home from there, I stopped to take some shots of flowers, but discovered a number of bees buzzing between the blooms. I was lucky to get this great shot!
So after a pleasant morning of self indulgence, I came home, and with a little help from the Bare-chested Chef and Adoring Husband, I did a couple of hours of housework, which I haven't done for quite some time!
It's nice to have a clean house :o) and now the plants are happy because they got to have a nice big drink as well.
I even had almost two hours to myself this afternoon while everybody else was busy in town. It was lovely.
It's been a productive and happy day for me!

Winners Are Grinners
Adoring Husband won his Club Golf Championships (with handicap) today, in B Grade. I reckon he's feeling pretty chuffed! Well done my darling :o)
We rushed down to the park to catch that final couple of minutes of the sunset this afternoon. We literally ran from the car to the edge of the park and didn't even have time to set up our tripods.
We stood firing off shots for about three minutes, which is how long it took for the sun to sink very quickly behind the horizon!
Then we jumped in the car and headed off to the other end of the beach, where the full moon was due to rise.
My effort was dismal and I have deleted all of my attempted shots of the moon.
Adoring Husband had better luck, but they still weren't good enough to share on here. We'll try again next month!
I did get a nice photograph with the macro lens this afternoon ...
Today would have been my Dad's 71st birthday, had he lived. He died in 1997 of complications from a brown snake bite.
The staff at Gladstone Hospital treated the injury incorrectly, so they were directly responsible for his death and Mum received a large compensation payment after a two year legal battle.
Of course it didn't bring Dad back, but it made her life more financially comfortable for the eight years after his death and until hers in 2005.
Yes, I am an orphan. I don't like it much. Life and death are so unpredictable, so make the most of what and who you have while you have them. It can all be over in an instant.
In the meantime, I will enjoy the smile on Adoring Husband's dial because Winners are grinners!

Musical Day
Literally dragged myself out of bed this morning to get organised for the markets. Getting myself organised was surprisingly easier than I expected!
If I hadn't arranged for Aussie H to meet me there, I probably would have stayed at home in bed!
I waited until the sun was up high enough to make it safe for me to ride my trike, so it was about 6.10am when I left home.
I hadn't organised money for my float so I pedalled to Foodworks and used the ATM to withdraw some cash. I then went to the Bakery to get coffee, which in turn gave me change for my float.
It was around 6.30am when I began to set up my stall and it only took about fifteen minutes, so I was sitting and drinking my coffee well before 7am.
It was SOOOOO cold! I don't usually feel the cold, but my feet felt like they were frozen and I even wore long sleeves!
At about 8am, a bus load of high school kids arrived and began setting themselves up in one corner of the grounds to play music.
They were from Redcliffe High School and they were a music band and choir. They had a gig in Hervey Bay (something to do with the Baptist Church) but had been invited to our market to play.
They were very good and played a wide and varied range of songs and music for about two hours. They certainly pulled a crowd!
When they finished and had packed up all their gear, they all wandered around the markets and I made some good sales from lovely kids who were buying gifts for their mothers!
What started out as a slow day, ended up being one my best days ever! Yay for polite, well spoken, confident, talented young people!!
After a nice long nap this afternoon, Adoring Husband and I got all dressed up and drove to Maryborough for 'Jon English and The Rock Show'.
You know how when somebody raves about something ... like a movie ... and when you go to see it, you have such high expectations, that you are almost always disappointed? Well, I expected that Adoring Husband would be disappointed in this show because I had raved SO MUCH about how great it was.
He LOVED it! He came out raving about it, just like I did the first time I saw the show.
I must admit that for the first ten minutes, I was holding back tears! I was so overwhelmed with happiness and excitement, that the emotion kind of welled up inside me and I struggled to control it!
Seems the older I get, the more emotional I get. Gotta figure out a way to control that!
There was a restaurant attached to the theatre where the show was and we lobbed on the door asking for a table at 6.30pm. They gave us the last table available!
The food was lovely and by the time we finished dinner, it was time to pick up our tickets from reception, which was a relatively easy and painless operation.
The foyer was full of old fogeys like us, with a smattering of kids/grandkids.
Some people were dressed to the nines and others wore tracksuits and flannelette shirts.
When I saw the show in Griffith, we were sitting two rows back on the left side of the stage and this time, we were sitting three rows back and on the right side of the stage.
It was almost like watching a different show!
There is just so much to see, it's impossible to watch everything at the same time. The talent on that stage is just impossible to describe and there are no words to do the show justice.
I will go again and again and again if I have the opportunity! We paid $50 to see the show in Griffith and $69 to see the show here, but I would pay double that because they are more than worthy of that kind of money.
Just brilliant!!
It has been a very musical day for me and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

Vegan Chickie's Suggestions
It's late and I'm sitting on the couch with Vegan Chickie wondering what to write about.
Here are her suggestions:
1. My picnic lunch with Woman of Many Talents and Mrs Bucket today at the Lion's Park.
2. Chicklet rolling over for the first time tonight, while I was out.
3. My new steam machine which I love but Adoring Husband detests.
4. The white limousine trike that I want to buy, because my red trike makes terrible noises when I put heavy things in the rear basket.
5. Market Day preparations for the markets that I don't really want to attend tomorrow. Looking for motivation.
6. The football 'pick the score' competition at the local pub.
7. Psychotic dogs barking and being psychotic over the late afternoon storm yesterday.
8. The fabulousness that is Vegan Chickie. What a great mother, wife, daughter, friend, granddaughter, niece, sister, speller, writer, cook, blog suggestioner and word maker upperer she is!!
I don't think I will write about any of those things because it's after 11pm and I have to get out of bed EXTRA early tomorrow to get myself organised for the markets that I am SO not prepared for!!
So thank you for your suggestions Vegan Chickie. It has been an amusing discussion with some good ideas, but instead, I am going to climb into my warm bed and thaw out my frozen body. I can't believe how cold it is tonight!!

Missed Opportunities
What a gloriously beautiful day it was here today!
They told me at the 'seat of knowledge', that in the last week, on the mornings or afternoons that I haven't been there, they've seen both dugongs AND dolphins in the river!!
Dolphins are rarely seen in the river here. Everybody loves dolphins and I would LOVE to get photos of them in my river!!
We had a visit from a lovely little Butcher Bird at the 'seat of knowledge' this morning.
I left there with Aussie H and after we checked our mail at the Post Office (we don't have a mail delivery service in our little town), I decided to go with her on a long ride around one of the lakes in town.
We ran into some ducks frolicking in and on the edge of the water.
Is he the Pied Piper or is he Dorothy on the yellow brick road!
This afternoon, Adoring Husband was lured by the moon and borrowed my camera to take this photograph.
Must be full moon coming up soon.
Hopefully another opportunity to catch the moon rising over the water. I missed the dugongs and dolphins, but I don't want to miss the full moon. Some opportunities, you can plan for, and shouldn't be missed!

Average to Great
Took the trusty trike to the Dr today.
A couple of days ago, I was riding home from afternoon tea with my girls, when my trike began making horribly loud clicking noises.
I tried changing the gears up and down a few times, to no effect. I tried hitting the brakes hard a few times, to no effect. I called Adoring Husband outside to check it over, to no effect.
It wasn't the gears, it wasn't the brakes and it wasn't the wheels.
So we decided to book it in for a check up (it was only serviced about two months ago).
We were given 8.30am as our appointment time and the young man suggested that he usually arrived at work early, so there wouldn't be a problem.
A different young man arrived to open the shop at 9.05am!! Not happy Jan!!
While we waited for the trike to be checked, Adoring Husband and I decided to go to the movies.
The movie that we saw is now on my list of 'Top 5 Worst Movies of all Time'.
It was 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'. Ugh!! Don't go there!!
The best part of the movie was the vanilla, macadamia nut, choc top ice cream that I had for breakfast during the previews before the movie started.
Turned out there was nothing wrong with the trike and the clicking disappeared the second we took it off the trailer to wheel it into the shop.
At least he only charged us $10 to tell us that information.
We all enjoyed completing the Census form tonight!
It seems that Vegan Chickie and I both share a secret ... we enjoy filling out official forms!
It's no longer a secret :o)
Just to sneak one little photo in for the day. This one was taken Sunday morning, right on the turn of the tide, when the water was very still.
So my trike turned out to be fine. The ice cream at the cinemas was delicious. We got to complete a most official Australian form tonight AND I got to have lots of Chicklet quality time after dinner tonight!!
What started out as an average day has finished up as a pretty great day!!

Bye Bye Bubbles :o(
It was time to wave goodbye to Bubbles today :o(
A couple of photos taken of Bubbles and I at the Eumundi Hotel, where we had lunch on day one, after we picked her up from the airport.
Before Bubbles left this morning, I asked Adoring Husband to take some photos of 'the girls' together.
Impossible to get all of us doing the right thing at the right time!
Nice to have us all together in one photo ... who knows when we will all be together again!
We had a great time! Thanks for coming! See ya next trip! We love you! Mwa! Mwa! Mwa!
Full stop. No returns.

PS Thank you Adoring Husband for attempting to take our photo!

Girl's Day Together
There may be some illness developing in the house :o( Bugga!
Bubbles and I walked and rode (she walked and I rode) down to the Lion's Park for lunch today. We packed some fresh bread rolls, cold water and salt n pepper in a cooler bag and I stopped to get a cooked chook from the supermarket, but they didn't have any!
How strange that at lunch time on a Sunday, they wouldn't have any cooked chooks available!!
So I bought some ham and cheese instead and headed off to meet Bubbles at the park.
The park was surprisingly busy and there was only one table free for us to sit at.
The day was gloriously perfect with a few scattered clouds and a nice breeze blowing.
We sat and made our sandwiches and ate them enjoying the atmosphere.
We didn't sit for long before deciding to walk along the path which winds it's way along the river from the park to the beach, at the far end of town.
Bubbles took some photos along the way and we stopped at the beach to take some more photos and for her to phone 'Knight in Shining Armour'.
Here are some of my photos. I really liked the cloud formation rising above Fraser Island!
We got a phone call from Vegan Chickie while we were there, to ask us to meet her at the shops for coffee. So we spent about an hour having drinks and chatting and enjoying each other's company.
It was a really nice afternoon.
I realised later in the day that I had to rush home to get the lamb roast in the oven!
We all sat around the table to enjoy a lovely baked dinner tonight and then watched the final of MasterChef Australia on telly, together.
As I write this, Bubbles, Vegan Chickie and I are watching the Blueray version of the movie '2012'. Not the greatest movie in the world and it did have potential, but it's a bit of light entertainment to enjoy together on Bubbles' last night for this trip.
So our day has mostly been a great girl's day together and I don't know about the girls, but I really enjoyed it!!

Baby High Five Day!
Adoring Husband went to golf today to play in the Club Championships.
The Bare-chested Chef went to work today.
Vegan Chickie, Bubbles, Chicklet and I stayed at home and watched DVDs together and ate fish and chips for lunch.
We watched Finding Nemo, Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse.
I took a series of photos of Chicklet drumming in her zebra outfit that BGWLBH bought for her while I was visiting her.
Adoring Husband is doing ok in the Club Championships and plays again tomorrow and then again next weekend. May the force be with him!
Hopefully, if the weather is nicer than it was today, we will go for a picnic by the river tomorrow.
Unfortunately, it's Bubbles' last full day. Her visit has been short and sweet, but productive.
Since she arrived, she has been trying to teach Chicklet to 'baby high five'. Apparently, while I was having my nana nap this afternoon (which I am allowed to do now that I'm a grandmother!), she succeeded!! I received the animated version of the success story when I woke up!
So happy baby high five day!

Family Day Out
Today, when it was suggested that we all go into The Bay for a shopping day, we realised that The Bare-chested Chef had gone to work with the baby car seat still in the back of the car.
Vegan Chickie volunteered to stay at home while Adoring Husband, Bubbles and I went shopping, but we all agreed that we didn't like that idea.
Adoring Husband then decided to drive into The Bay to where The Bare-chested Chef was working, to get the car seat, and then drive all the way back home to pick us up, and take us BACK into The Bay for our lunch and shopping day.
THAT is why I named him 'Adoring Husband'. In the interest of everybody's happiness, he sometimes performs tricks that most other husbands wouldn't!
'Salt', on The Esplanade, was our place of choice for lunch. It's a lovely restaurant on the waterfront. I had the duck while the others had fish, and for a beverage, we all selected various flavours of thick shakes.
It was quite delicious and the atmosphere was very nice. It was a late lunch and we were lucky enough to be joined near the end by The Bare-chested Chef who had finished work early today.
Little Chicklet was as cute as a button, as always. She started out in a gorgeous purple dress that we had bought her at the Childers Festival last weekend, but decided to throw up on it just before we left. So a quick change saw her in everybody's favourite black and white striped tights and a t-shirt.
I think she had a lovely time out with everyone... especially with Aunty Bubbles, who is trying to teach her how to 'baby high five', and hopes to have succeeded by the time she leaves on Monday.
There are no big plans for tomorrow, but we will be together, and that's what counts.

Psychotically Happy
We had a lovely drive down to the Sunshine Coast to pick up Bubbles from the airport.
The weather was a bit erratic as we drove through sun showers, heavy downpours, overcast skies and periods of bright sunshine, but that just made the trip a little more interesting.
This afternoon we drove down to the river to try and catch a pretty sunset, but most of the clouds cleared except for one big one that covered the sun, barely giving it a chance to glow at all!
Here is my effort with the camera ...
One thing is for sure, the psychotic dogs are psychotically happy to see Bubbles again and right now, she is draped along the couch in the family room with all three of them laying on top of her.
I'm all worn out from my big day out, so I'm off to bed, but before I go, I would just like to say ...
... we are psychotically happy to see you again too Bubbles!

Poosplosions!
Just a brief post tonight because I have to get some sleep.
We need to arise early and drive for over two hours to pick up Bubbles from the airport tomorrow.
Tonight, I had Chicklet on my lap in the lounge room while Vegan Chickie and The Bare-chested Chef ate their dinner.
I had one hand behind her, on the back of her nappy, and the other hand was rubbing her feet.
All of a sudden I felt this explosion burst out of her rear end!
It was so powerful that it gave me a shock and I gasped and pulled my hand away!!
It felt and sounded ominous!
There were four or five more of these ominous explosions and then when she began squirming on my lap, I decided to find out who was on nappy duty... just in the nick of time!!
That's one of the great joys of being a grandparent ... nappies are for on-duty parents :o) heheheh.
I had heard stories about these poosplosions in the past, but never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined such power!
Lucky she wasn't sitting in the bathtub! She would have propelled herself from one end to the other!
There was a lot of effort involved and I felt it important to document it here, so that perhaps this story can be read out loud at a significant birthday in the future!
Sorry my little Sweetie Possum, but this is what grandparents are for! To embarrass you with poosplosion stories told with love and fondest affection :o)

Little Drummer Girl
If there is one thing in this world that irks me, it's bigoted, negative, small minded people who don't approve of anyone who lives a lifestyle different to themselves and who make derogatory comments under their breath loud enough to purposely offend others.
I have decided to rearrange my life so that I don't have to deal with such evil, toxic behaviour anymore!
If there is one thing in this world that I love, it's my little drummer girl, Chicklet (and her surrounding family).
My loving, pacifist, hippie family who don't judge people, never purposely try to hurt anybody and who are simply trying to create a warm, loving and happy environment in which their daughter can feel safe, secure and empowered.
I want to surround myself with warm, positive people who like to nurture their friendships and build happy relationships with those around them.
Life is very very short and I am not going to waste time with anyone who enjoys making others feel bad.
My positive affirmation for today is ...
"I am unfolding in fulfilling ways and only good can come to me"
I am happy. I am feeling the love.
The bluebird of happiness is wrapping it's loving wings around my life as we speak and I can feel the balance and harmony readjusting as I bring this post to a close.
All is right with my world :o)

So Much to Learn
We subscribe to the 'Australian Photography' magazine.
I also watch the Canon facebook page and their website. I follow the Canon EOS chains and their EOS 1 Wall and sometimes submit entries on both.
I follow half a dozen professional photographer's sites via RSS feeds, both local and international, which provide some great information on cameras, all forms of photography and sometimes offer short training videos on these subjects.
I have a Flickr profile and am a member of a photography group, where I can post my photos and be critiqued by both professionals and amateurs and where I have already learned a lot in a few short months.
I have a 500px profile, which I don't go into very often because the photographers there are amazingly talented and use a lot of editing software like photoshop to manipulate their photographs into extraordinary pieces of art.
I have used my camera every day for more than two years and now with my new camera, practise with different lenses in different light conditions and at different times of the day as often as possible.
I play with the iphoto editing tool on my laptop to enhance the shots that I take and I have photoshop, which I haven't used yet, but am looking at it with more of an open mind to learn a few tricks like framing my photos and adding my signature.
I did a ten day photography course last year in February, which taught a little about photography and too much on photoshop.
I attended a weekend photography workshop in Maleny which taught me more in two days than I learnt for the entire ten days in the previous course.
Adoring Husband has a sponge for a brain and has studied everything 'Canon' for the last six months and passed on lots of information to me in that time (even though I mostly hear blah blah blah lol). Every day, I learn something new from him.
I am currently doing a Photography Diploma online.
Every day, with all of this experience and knowledge, I still feel like a beginner.
It doesn't matter how much I learn, there is always still so much more!
For every new piece of information I find, it creates a whole new section of information to learn!
I always thought that photography was just about having a good camera, learning how to compose a photograph and being in the right place at the right time for that 'special' shot.
Once you start looking beyond your own little world, where your friends and family tell you how fabulous you are and create a wonderful bubble of security for you, there is so much more to it than you could ever imagine!!
Sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming, but mostly it feels like an exciting challenge.
Even if it takes 500 shots to capture that ONE MAGIC MOMENT ... it is SOOOOO worth it!
Every moment with Chicklet is magic!
So I still have so much to learn and one day I want to be able to combine technical perfection with creative beauty and present an awe inspiring photograph that captures the world's imagination.
Wish me luck!

A Multi-cultural Day
Today, we attended the Childers Multi-cultural Festival!
http://bundaberg.qld.gov.au/discover/events/childers-festival
Every year, the last weekend in July, is set aside for this festival.
Adoring Husband and I have now been to three out of the last four festivals and have really enjoyed ourselves each time.
The food didn't seem as good or as varied as the last few years, but there were lots of market stalls and we were able to buy Chicklet lots of lovely baby hippie clothes.
We even got a couple of little dresses! A lovely deep purple coloured dress and a little shift with a bright red apple pattern.
There was lots of musical entertainment and we sat down to listen to 'Twine' for about half an hour.
There were lots of people sitting down listening to the music and couple of adults and a few kids were up dancing at different times.
The 'Brass Monkeys' played after them, but we only heard a little of them as we walked around some more.
This interesting character was selling bongo drums and other interesting instruments as well as having his photo taken with almost everybody who walked by.
We didn't have a program, so most of our day was spent wandering through the market stalls and spending our money.
Little Chicklet had a lovely time in her new stroller and even had a little nap. She also spent some time in her baby carrier (I think it's an Ergo Baby Carrier?). She was very happy all day long, smiling and talking and checking out the people.
I believe she was probably the happiest little cutie pitootie there!
After four hours, we still hadn't seen everything, but we were done. We packed all of our goods into the cars and found our way home.
Next year, I think we will print a copy of the program and perhaps plan our day, so that we get to see more of the entertainment.
I'm glad we got to share it with the Bare-chested Chef, Vegan Chickie and Chicklet. It was a lovely day!
Nite all.
PS Bubbles is coming to visit after all! She will be here from Thursday to Monday next week and we are all very excited!

Enjoying the atmosphere.
This interesting character was selling bongo drums and other interesting instruments as well as having his photo taken with almost everybody who walked by.

Vegan Chickie has a while to go before her dreadlocks are as long as this character's!
Little Chicklet had a lovely time in her new stroller and even had a little nap. She also spent some time in her baby carrier (I think it's an Ergo Baby Carrier?). She was very happy all day long, smiling and talking and checking out the people.

She's so lovely.
