Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Paced Myself

I had an average day of sales.

I had a visit from The Brains Trust.

I had another delivery.

I was able to unpack, check, price and display four of today’s boxes as well as yesterday’s big box of scarves and clothes.

I paced myself well.

I have had a headache for three days 😳

I resorted to drugs for pain relief.

I came home to binge watch New Girl. I haven’t even reached the end of the first season yet.

I had dinner cooked for me again. Thank you Adoring Husband.

I am very tired.

Visitors Galore!

At 7am I met The Gypsy at the shop where we sat in the training room attempting to catch up on the last 6 weeks of our lives. Impossible to do inside two hours but it was an enjoyable morning.

At 9am on the dot I received another visitor - one of my consignment ladies - who stayed for about 20 minutes.

Soon after, another consignment lady arrived and chatted for 30 minutes.

At 10.30am, one of the meditation girls popped in. An hour later, just as the crowds moved in, she left.

Another half hour passed and one of my art girls walked in. While we were chatting, another lady, whose husband has Parkinson’s, visited me for her 3 monthly vent. They knew each other so the three way chat lasted for about 30 minutes.

While they were there, I received a delivery of stock.

I got 5 items out of the box when my next visitor, an old photography student, arrived with a friend. They stayed for 30 minutes.

In between all of these visitors, I had a huge day of sales, so even though Adoring Husband set up the tables in the training room for the art class on Saturday, I didn’t get a chance to do any setting up.

One of the art girls is coming in on Saturday morning to help 😍

I didn’t get a chance to unpack the delivery either.

I’m feeling mentally drained from so much socialising! I’m going to need a day in bed to recover from this week!

AH cooked curried chicken with cauliflower rice for dinner. He did a great job and it was delicious - he thought I was a growing teenage boy and filled my plate accordingly - so I couldn’t eat even half of it! He was definitely my hero tonight because I was in no frame of mind to cook.

It’s now my bed time.

Night of Ekk

I woke at midnight last night with mild stomach cramps that gradually increased in strength until I felt the need to sit on the loo.

I felt so bad, hot and clammy that I didn’t know if I wanted to sit on the toilet or hug it!

The cramps got worse and I felt like I had a temperature. I grabbed a hand towel, saturated it with cold water and wrapped it around the back of my neck and that’s where I sat for two hours.

There was no action, just cramps and sweating and feeling nauseated.

By the time I could crawl back into bed, my pyjama top was drenched from the wet towel, but I left it on because the fan helped cool me down and by 3.30am I was sleeping soundly.

I woke to the alarm at 7am and hit the snooze button 4 times before I got up to have a shower.

I felt fine, but lack of sleep left me feeling pretty lethargic all day.

Lucky for me it was a very slow day for sales so I spent the time clearing my desk and mostly relaxing. I did however, discover halfway through the day that I was wearing my top inside out! That’s an indication of how out of sorts I was when I dressed myself!

I rested my tummy with a watermelon and pineapple juice in the morning and black tea during the day. Lots of water.

It’s now 10.30pm and I have a very early appointment so it’s sleep time for me.

Nite all.

Safe n Sound

Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair arrived home safe n sound this afternoon.

Such a relief.

Adoring Husband and I arrived at the shop before 7.45am and spent 45 minutes clearing the disaster zone in the training room and vacuuming the floor.

He had to leave at 8.40am to drive psychotic dog Colli into The Bay for a well overdue grooming ...

My girls arrived for our coffee morning but it was busy in the shop and I got very little time with them. I don’t think I even sat for one entire conversation! 😳

Some more lady’s fashion items arrived in the mail so I spent almost the entire day steaming, pricing a displaying clothes. Steaming is the one drawback of having clothes in the shop.

Journaling was cancelled for the day due to illness and Drs appointments.

Molly’s Ma came to clean so I kept the shop open until 3pm. Nobody came in during that last hour.

Having said that, it was still a good day of sales!

We thoroughly enjoyed our salmon steak with salad for dinner tonight and after my early start, later finish and all that steaming, I’m definitely ready for sleep.

I am not Sophia, but I am all those other things ... as are you!

Lazy Bones

Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair left well before I got up this morning.

The house felt very empty without her.

She had an eventful trip having to pull over for wild storms and then was held up due to a bad accident near Yarraman.

Tonight she is sleeping in Tamworth at The Golden Guitar Motel!

My day had a very low vibe and I couldn’t find the motivation to do anything productive.

A couple of loads of washing and I ate a GF Thai chicken pie then half a tub of ice cream filled with crushed waffle cones for lunch.

I watched a couple of Netflix movies “The Fundamentals of Caring” is one that I’d recommend.

Adoring Husband mowed the lawns AND cooked dinner which was nice.

Now I need a good nights sleep and get to work early to clear the explosion of a mess in my training room!

😭☹️😭

The holiday for Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair is over.

By the time you read this, she will be well and truly on her way.

We said our light and fluffy goodbyes tonight before bed and tomorrow morning we will avoid each other as she rushes out the door.

Her morning smoothie is prepared and in her cold flask. Her chicken and salad is prepared ready to throw in her cold bag. Her bags are packed and the car is loaded up.

We just can’t bear the goodbyes.

All going well, she will return in November.

Before I even got out of bed, she had drawn the outline of the turtle on the wall near the pool ...

I got out of bed at 8am and made our morning smoothie and went out to make judgement on her artwork.

We had a swim and a float and a loll in the early morning sunshine before lazing for a while under the Bali hut.

I made a few changes to the turtle and we came inside to create a delicious grazing platter for three for our lunch.

After lunch, we played trivia.

I won!

BGWLBH and I went to our bedrooms for an afternoon rest while Adoring Husband watched his new Dr Who dvds.

I prepared barramundi, sweet potato chips and a salsa for dinner. BGWLBH made a green salad.

It was delicious and we followed that with more trivia - which I won!! 🤸🏼🤸🏻‍♀️🤸🏽‍♂️

We are all in bed early and I’m feeling a bit low knowing that my house will be short one human tomorrow morning.

Nite all.

Penultimate

Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair will be known, for today’s blog post only, as Uncle Jamie.

Inside joke.

SHE knows what I’m talking about!

It was nice to have Aggie visit me at work this morning. She’s been away for a while so there was some catching up to be had.

All of my sales at the shop happened between 11am and 12pm. It was a fabulous hour of sales.

I sold 5 of these dresses ...

and have sold two more on preorders! They are lovely and comfortable and cool.

Uncle Jamie, after having her nails done in The Bay, came to the shop and steamed the remainder of the tops from yesterday for me and then offered to vacuum the floors. That was a huge help.

Adoring Husband didn’t need to pick me up because Uncle Jamie helped me close up and drove us home.

I got changed and we made up a big share platter of various fruits, avocado and tuna dip, chicken pate and two different types of plain crackers for lunch.

Before swimming in the pool, we took all of the fruit left in the fridge, chopped it up and bagged it to freeze for smoothies.

It was a lovely afternoon in the water and then we lazed by the pool for about an hour.

We both decided to lay down for a nap in the late afternoon. Neither of us was very successful but it was good to at least rest.

Dinner was crispy skinned chicken with spinach, pumpkin and pine nut salad and a garden salad.

While Uncle Jamie cleaned up after dinner, AH and I drew up the grid on the wall beside the pool ready for Uncle Jamie to draw the turtle ready to be painted.

I hate Uncle Jamie!!

We played trivia and I won!!

Uncle Jamie was not happy 😆

It was our penultimate day together and by the time you read this there will be just one more sleep til she hits the road and makes her way home.

Hopefully, all things going well with “the Rona” she will return in November. Our postponed road trip will be going ahead and we’ll have even more time together! Fingers crossed.

It’s now approaching 1am so it’s sleep time for me.

Birthday Boy

Happy birthday to Number One Son who turned 39 today.

You know you’re old when two of your kids are that close to 40. Vegan Chickie will be 41 in March.

Thank goodness for Bubbles who helps me feel just a touch younger.

It was a busy day in the shop with good sales.

The clothing arrived as expected so I spent all the time between customers steaming, pricing and displaying. There is still more to do and these are priced in the mid range.

I was pretty exhausted when I got home so I watched my fave Tipping Point and was struggling to keep my eyes open so I popped into bed for a power nap.

That did the trick and by the time I awoke, Adoring Husband had dinner ready.

We all played trivia and I won!! Just pipped AH at the post. BGWLBH was not having a good night.

She and I played Scrabble afterwards and I defeated her by 179 points!!! Woot! Woot!

We made a happy birthday video to send to No 1 Son and I played Pop Master.

It’s 9.30pm and I’m ready for some more sleep, although I’m feeling a bit peckish. Perhaps a late night snack is on the cards?

Nite all.

Super Quiet

I had a good nights sleep, but a bad start to the day ... you know those days when you try on everything in your wardrobe and it all feels and looks terrible? That was my morning.

Because of that, I was late opening the shop.

Not that it mattered because only 2 people came into the shop before 1pm 😳

10 people came through the door between 1pm and 1.30pm.

Needless to say, it was a slow day for sales.

However! More stock arrived! So I was busy checking, pricing and displaying for most of the time.

I hope that some of the new clothes will arrive tomorrow and that should be it for ordering until after February.

While Adoring Husband manned the shop for the last 15 minutes, Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair and I drove into The Bay for a quick shopping trip.

On the recommendation of BGWLBH, I purchased this book ...

I got two tops and some perfume and we did a quick walk through the almost empty Target. There were no bargains to be found but we were surprised and disappointed to see that they were closing down.

Apparently it may not be a permanent situation, so I guess we’ll wait and see.

We returned home by 4pm, and after an hour of rest time we prepared Peking Duck with sweet potato chips and salad for dinner.

The usual game of trivia and the usual winner 😳

Now it’s time to sleep, because as my new book tells me, sound and solid sleep is the foundation for strong health!

Nite all.

Productivity

I put Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair to work in the training room today.

She created order out of the chaos within those cupboards and drawers and then labelled it all to make my life even easier.

In between customers, following BGWLBH’s orders/instructions/requests, I priced and displayed most of the stock that had arrived yesterday.

The day passed very quickly and sales were average.

After an hour resting my butt on the couch, Adoring Husband drove me to the beach to meet BGWLBH for an afternoon walk on the beach at low tide.

We returned home and prepared a healthy dinner. White and orange sweet potato chips, sausages and three different salads.

We played trivia - I won!! Woot! Woot!

It’s 10pm and I’m ready to sleep.

Nite all.

Full On

Because Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair was taking Adoring Husband into The Bay early for his appointment to have an MRI, I had to ride to work and open the shop on my own.

I was running a little late so Lady Lynn, who was the first to arrive for our coffee morning, became my assistant and made my life easier. It was such a pleasant surprise to have her join us!

Our numbers were down a bit and customers took me away from the table a few times.

Six boxes of stock arrived so the girls hung around to watch me open the boxes and they got first dibs on the treasures that emerged!

After they left, I realised that I’d left my journaling lesson at home and there was nobody available to deliver it to me.

😳

Luckily, I have very understanding participants. They were cool with me telling them the subject matter while they wrote everything down.

They were excited about the subject for today and there was lots of discussion and sharing of experiences. We did 20 minutes of timed writing and we nibbled on the leftover crackers and dip from our Christmas party.

Sales were not huge today but there were a lot of people in for a look. Maybe they’ll return some time this week to spend.

My cleaner came in for her weekly hour of dusting and one of the journaling participants helped me display some of the new stock that I’d priced.

I cooked duck breast and vegetables for dinner and made a mandarin sauce.

We played trivia.

I played Popmaster.

Now it’s almost 11pm so I’d best get some sleep.

Nite all.

Windy City

It was mighty windy in The Bay today!

Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair and I had our legal appointment there this afternoon and now our business is complete and finalised.

Except for the fact that Fire n Ice clothing store was closed (it’s closed every Monday and doesn’t open until 10am for the rest of the week), we had a great day.

Adoring Husband and I cleared the training room at the shop ready for morning tea with the girls and journaling in the afternoon.

Dinner was very boring leftover cold lamb with leftover salad.

BGWLBH won trivia again! 😳

It’s 10pm and I’m ready to sleep now.

Nite all.

Freak Me Out!

Last night, I set my alarm for 7am because we planned to leave home at 8.30am to meet The Brains Trust at the cinema where we were going to view “The Dry”.

For some strange unknown reason, my alarm did NOT go off and even stranger ... I slept until 8.15am!!

I jumped out of bed and ran to Beautiful Girl With Long Blonde Hair’s room to show her that I was not ready and still in my PJs.

She questioned whether we would still be going and as I disappeared from her view I called out while shuffle running down the hall “Yes of course! I can be ready in 15 minutes!”

Twenty minutes later I emerged fully dressed, draped in jewellery, make up applied, hair brushed and bag packed ready to go!

I sent a text to The Brains Trust to tell her that we were running later than planned but would still arrive on time and just moments later she phoned to tell me that she was driving  right behind us!

We greeted each other in the car park and joined the long queue to purchase our movie tickets. Luckily, most of the patrons were seeing a different movie to us and our cinema was the newly renovated number five.

The seats almost felt like business class on a plane. Lush and leathery and spacious and comfortable.

For an Aussie movie, it was pretty good. Very similar to The Dressmaker and Eric Bana has certainly gained a little sex appeal as he’s grown older! However the movie left us with more questions than answers and we agreed that we needed to read the book to hopefully fill in the blanks.

After the movie, we parted ways. BGWLBH and I drove to the supermarket for a grocery shop and then headed home for some lunch because we were starving! BGWLBH had forgotten to take her meds this morning and because I was running late, we didn’t get our morning smoothie so it was a double negative whammy!

At home I unpacked the groceries, made a light lunch for everyone and then sat down to eat my own lunch, after which I read the paperwork that I have to sign in front of a solicitor tomorrow, watched some TV with Adoring Husband, put the giant leg of lamb in the oven and lay down for a 40 minute rest.

We had roast lamb with seven vegetables and home made gravy for dinner.

We played trivia and guess who won? Not me. Not AH.

AH and I watched our recording of I’m a Celebrity before coming to bed and now it’s almost 11.30pm and I have to sleep.

Nite all.
