I'd hoped to write a decent post tonight, but I'm feeling decidedly tired. How sad that I'm thinking about bed at 7.30pm on a Saturday night!
Maybe it was the hour long walk along the beach this afternoon?
So I will share with you, my third photo for the B&W 5 day challenge on facebook ...
... and now I have some kitchen debris to clean up after dinner, that's if I can stay awake long enough!
I have a few photos of the baby Tawny Frogmouth to share tomorrow, so watch this space.
Nite all.
I'm lazy and selfish and spend too much time on the internet. I love to be creative with photography and jewellery and sketching with pencil and pastels. I'm happier now than I have ever been and I love everything about my life ... where I live, my home, my fantastic grown up children, my lifestyle, my friends, my dogs and last but not least my wonderful adoring husband. Life is good!
Nice to see you!
Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.
Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.
Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**
Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!
So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!
Welcome to my dilemna!!

Last but not Least
Here is the final episode of The Truth About Cancer series. It's not on youtube and you only have 48 hours to watch it from this link.
This episode is full of interviews with survivors of colon, breast, kidney, testicular, lung cancer etc., who have used either a combination of conventional cancer treatments with natural therapies, or they have only used some form of natural therapy.
It's very interesting to hear their stories.
So I thought I would post this a little earlier than usual, so that you have a chance to watch the final episode before it's removed from the free watch site.
I will do another post later this evening, separate to this one.
See ya later.

TGIF
It's been a great day!
I got to spend time with a woman who has a very similar belief system as me, as far as health, nutrition and mental/emotional/psychological health is concerned. We spent about an hour together this morning, maybe more, and we will definitely spend more time together in the future.
She lent me a book, which I began to read today, but I realised that nothing else would get done if I continued, so I put it down and plan on looking at it again tomorrow.
I can't wait to talk more with her!
I've watched some great videos on Youtube today regarding the Lymph system, cancer treatments, Parkinson's treatments and so much more ... I have bookmarked the last page that I looked at so that I can continue in the coming days.
So much to learn!!
Yesterday, I was invited, by The Best Cousin in the World, to participate in a B&W photography challenge on Facebook. Here are my first two submissions ...
Meanwhile, here is Episode 10 of The Truth About Cancer ..
Now it's bed time, so I'm off!

Movie Solo
Today, Adoring Husband had to go into The Bay to run some errands, so I decided to go for a ride with him and had him drop me off at the cinema to be picked up a couple of hours later.
I went to the movies alone.
Because of the Parkinson's Disease, Adoring Husband struggles to sit through a movie for a couple of hours. There is no support for his head and neck in the cinema seats, so the tremor puts a lot of stress in that area, causing him some pain afterwards.
I imagine that for any other couple, this might be a problem, but luckily for us, I really enjoy going to the movies solo!
Today, I saw the movie "Tammy" starring Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon. There were quite a few other big names in it too. Kathy Bates, Allison Janney, Dan Aykroyd, Toni Collette and Sandra Oh.
I quite enjoyed it, but I suggest that you don't go rushing out to see it. It's one that you can wait to watch on dvd in the comfort of your own lounge room.
Episode 9 of The Truth About Cancer ... (it's so nice to know that some of you are watching these!)
Now I have to give Adoring Husband a neck and shoulder massage ... because I love him :)

Waiting for the Heat
Apparently there is a heat wave heading in this direction, and in a few days, our temperatures are going to soar over 30C - which to any of you living inland, may seem like a reasonable temperature, but on the coast, with the humidity - it's really quite an oppressive heat.
I've so enjoyed our mid twenty temperatures of the last few weeks and the lovely cool nights with the breeze blowing directly through our bedroom window. I guess it had to come to an end eventually.
The boys at The Seat of Knowledge were excited and amused to see the photos of themselves that I posted here yesterday and I made sure I showed as many local people as possible, including The Little Gnome's female neighbour, who had a good giggle.
Very tempting to pin the photo in the local notice board, perhaps with a note attached, 'for a good time call ... ' but then maybe not lol.
Not much to report today, but here is episode 8 of the series The Truth About Cancer ...
The first doctor who talks, Dr Nicholas Gonzales, is an amazing and highly intelligent man, but he talks very very fast. It's almost like his mind is so full and overflowing with information that he can't get it out fast enough! He had me in awe and if you can keep up with what he is saying, you will learn a lot!
I took a lot of notes during this episode!
It's heading fast toward midnight so I'm outta here.

Days Alive
Today, on his birthday, Adoring Husband has been alive for 20,819 days.
I have been alive for 19,904 days.
That's quite a lot isn't it? I've never really thought about it, but I was expecting the number to be higher.
Anyway, we should make each day count.
The bakathon began this morning ...
This cake took quite a while to make and has a LOT of ingredients. I had to make my own date paste by soaking dates for some time in hot water and then whizzing in the blender until it became a creamy paste.
Ingredients include zucchini, walnuts, avocado, eggs, coconut flour, tapioca flour, almond flour, cream of tartare, bicarb soda, raw cacao powder, honey, vanilla extract, date paste, to name a few.
A syrup made of honey, water and coffee was brushed over each layer of the cake before the icing was added. The icing included avocado, date paste, honey, cacao powder, coconut cream, coconut oil and salt.
I actually added some whipped cream and blueberries to this, but forgot to take a photo!
Adoring Husband enjoyed a very large slice and it was similar to a brownie on the outside and then soft and moist in the middle. I liked it very much, but it was very rich .. I certainly couldn't eat a piece as big as the one AH ate!
AH spent his birthday working on the front garden, which I must say, is looking much better than it has for quite some time. There is still a little more to do there, and next he has to get the veggie garden moving out the back.
I picked a very large bucket of cherry tomatoes from the garden today, most of which, I think will go into the dehydrator for semi-dried tomatoes. The asparagus is still producing nicely too, but the lovely laying chooks have slowed down a little.
This month, our flickr group challenge is themed 'Odd One Out', so my boys at The Seat of Knowledge helped me out with this little number.
and of course, I had to get a shot like this, for future bribery and corruption purposes.
Believe me, the photo looks much better than the reality of it!!
That's about it for my day .. aside from a really nice morning tea with Lady Lynn. Everybody else was busy with life today, so we met early for a coffee together. I really enjoyed our short time together.
Here is Episode Seven of 'The Truth About Cancer' for your viewing pleasure ...

Happy Birthday Adoring Husband
First and most importantly ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADORING HUSBAND!!
Let's see what the day brings!
Birthdays for AH are very tricky. This is the man who has everything. This is the man who buys what he wants as soon as he wants it. This leaves little for the rest of us to consider.
We once passed a rule that he wasn't allowed to buy anything for himself for the last 3 months of the year .. so that we had a chance to get something that he wanted for his birthday and Christmas.
I think that rule only lasted one year .. he just couldn't control himself for that long.
So material gifts are not really an option, unless it's a fun gift that has a special meaning behind it.
I just have to find a way for AH to feel as much love as possible during the waking hours of his birthday and hope that he feels special!
I bet this is how he really feels today .. instead of his 57 years.
I was hoping that he would go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight so that I could spend a few hours in the kitchen and prepare some party food for tomorrow .. but as Murphy's Law dictates .. it just didn't happen.
Now I am rethinking my strategy.
Here is Episode 7 of 'The Truth About Cancer'
A warning before you watch this one .. there are a couple of short parts during this video where the doctors either talk REALLY fast, so they are difficult to understand, or they use jargon and medical terminology that might leave you a bit confused.
Don't give up. Try to push through it because those parts are only short and the video is still full of important health promoting information.
Time for me to at least attempt to make a birthday cake!
Nite all.

Another Lazy Sunday
The usual start to the day, although a bit late because I slept in.
The lovely Spring weather was welcoming and the river was a vibrant blue as the tide came in .. apparently, I was 30 minutes late for a pod of dolphins that swam up river close to the Seat of Knowledge! How disappointing! I will attempt to get there earlier tomorrow morning, because today was the second day in a row that they've appeared. Third time lucky for me I hope.
On my way home from coffee, I stopped to buy some fresh cooked sand crabs. My timing was perfect because they only had 6 small crabs left. I paid for 4 of them and he gave me the last two for free!
I spent the first hour after I got home, shelling crab. Ugh. That was a job and a half.
So Adoring Husband made egg rolls for lunch and we filled them with baby spinach leaves, raw onion and crab meat. Perfectly delicious lunch.
The rest of my Sunday, I spent lazing on the couch, sometimes dozing and watching trashy TV shows and a Leonardo Di Caprio movie. My favourite kind of Sunday.
We had Crispy Skinned Salmon for dinner with a hearty salad full of organic goodness splashed with balsamic vinegar and sprinkled with feta cheese.
We tried a fabulous new dessert. Dark Chocolate n Berry Mousse.
Ingredients:
Melt the chocolate in a double saucepan and set aside.
Combine avocados, baby spinach, cacao powder, vanilla extract, maple syrup and coconut cream and process in a food processor. Slowly add in the melted chocolate and continue to process.
Chop the strawberries (or whatever fruit you choose) and then fold through the mousse.
Set in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes and then serve with fruit on top and a sprinkling of chopped nuts.
For more healthful recipes go to I Quit Sugar where you'll find lot's of yummy stuff to choose from.
Here is Episode Five of The Truth About Cancer.
I just want to say that even though these hour long episodes fall under the title The Truth About Cancer, everything that they talk about is what I deeply believe about health and nutrition and healing the body from the inside out. Not just healing cancer, but any number of health issues from heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure problems, thyroid conditions, arthritis, eczema, asthma etc.
Covering things like hydration, sunshine, sugar, gluten, juicing, vitamins, minerals, herbs, toxins and detoxing, stress and emotions, the benefits of fasting, aspartame, the immune system, just to name a few!
I hope you can find the time to watch these shows because you will learn a lot and I know you will experience some light bulb moments.
That's about it from me.

Growing Bubba
Look how the bubba Tawny is growing!!
If she hadn't opened her eyes, I would never have known she was there. She blended in so well with her mama's feathers .. great camouflage!
I don't think the Tawny in the other nest has hatched her egg/s yet, but I'm checking every day. That nest is a bit higher in the tree, so my photos won't be as close as these.
I had a poor night's sleep last night. One of the psychotic dogs has struggled to adjust to his new diet and needs to head outside a few times each night to 'eliminate'. I had four trips outside last night. So I'm feeling quite weary tonight.
Things had better improve soon, because we need our sleep!
We attended a farewell party tonight for an older couple who have sold up and are heading south. Farewell and good luck to them.
Here is part four of The Truth About Cancer series.
Time for bed.

I Need a Nap
As you know, I didn't go to bed until after 1am (1.30am) this morning and then two of the psychotic dogs woke me at 5.40am because they needed to go outside.
I tried to get back to sleep for another couple of hours but I dozed on and off for about an hour and finally, I got up, because Adoring Husband was in some kind of hurry to go out for a ride.
So we rode to the Seat of Knowledge and then had morning coffee together (he actually had tea) at my usual morning haunt.
Afterwards, I came home and finally organised my beef and vegetable broth.
I took the meat, fat and marrow from the bones to make a rich delicious stew for AH's lunch and added some broth, garlic, cherry tomatoes from the garden, onion, cauliflower, chilli powder, cumin, home made tomato sauce, lemon juice, Himalayan salt and cracked pepper.
AH gobbled down a large bowl of it for his lunch and seemed to enjoy it very much. There are leftovers for tomorrow which I might offer him for breakfast since he has a big day organised tomorrow with the SES.
The rest of the broth filled seven chinese containers for the freezer.
Next, I made a big curried sausage dish, which will be heated up for our dinner tonight when we return home from the club. It already tastes delicious, but I can't wait til all those delicious flavours infuse .. by tonight it will knock our socks off!
Adoring Husband spent the morning potting some new herbs in my herb wall with fresh soil, some water retention balls and some cover for the soil. All of the herbs from the original plantings died, because the soil dried up and we couldn't keep the water up to them.
Hopefully this will do the trick and we will have better luck.
He is now preparing for a big SES day tomorrow. It's storm season and the SES is helping to bring awareness of how to be storm ready around the home, including having an emergency container at home which stores enough non perishable food for the family and pets for 3 days in an emergency.
There is a list of things, for example, a torch with charged batteries, portable battery chargers for your mobile phones, usb sticks or some kind of storage for important documents like identification, stocks/shares info, insurance details etc etc.
ANYWAY ... I'm not going to list everything here, but the SES will be in Hervey Bay at Bunnings, tomorrow (Saturday 18th October), giving a demonstration and providing all the information that you need to be storm ready.
So we've both been pretty busy today and are looking forward to a beverage with friends this evening.
The third movie in The Truth About Cancer series is here ...
It's time for me to go make myself presentable for public viewing.

RDJ Lover
Do you know what RDJ stands for? Robert Downey Jr of course!
Adoring Husband and I went to the cinema today and watched the movie "The Judge" with Robert Downey Jr, Robert Duvall and Billy Bob Thornton among others.
It was a powerful and gut wrenching movie with great acting and a very moving storyline. If you go, take tissues!
We had a big day in The Bay today, and it's already 1am. I have bone broth in the slow cooker that I was hoping to strain and freeze tonight, but it's too late, so I'll let it simmer for another 6 hours and do it tomorrow.
I also have a large saucepan of cooked spinach, chard and kale ready to whizz and combine with the broth.
Anyway, before I head to bed, here is Part 2 of the series The Truth About Cancer for you to view, if you are so inclined.

The Choice is Yours
I have just begun watching an eleven part series on The Truth About Cancer.
This is not the sort of information that you will find in mainstream media (unless the ABC got involved .. and we all know how much trouble they are in at the moment) because mainstream medicine/pharma would put a quick stop to it.
So it takes little people like me to spread the word by sharing it in social media sites like facebook, twitter and blogs.
No matter how cynical you are of anything outside of mainstream medicine, when you listen to the doctors, naturopaths, scientists, researchers and medical authors in this video, talk about what cancer is and why it develops and why the current treatments have such a low success rate, it will all make a lot of sense to you and you will want to know more.
28 Doctors 11 Scientists 9 survivors talking about their education, their experiences and their beliefs.
Knowledge is power, so if you have an hour to spare, watch it now, or bookmark it for later, but watch it to the very end.
I will put each Episode here for you to access.
The choice is yours.
Nite all.

Fruity Freeze
I made some ice cream last night. I made it in my new Breville Boss.
I threw in 2 frozen bananas, a box of frozen raspberries, a tin of coconut cream and 1/4 cup of raw honey and pressed the 'frozen dessert' button.
We ate half of it last night while it was like a soft serve dessert and I sprinkled crushed nuts over it and then grated dark chocolate over the top (the refined sugar free kind).
The rest, I put into the freezer so that it would freeze overnight.
Tonight I scooped frozen chunks out of the container and did the same thing with the nuts and chocolate.
Delicious. Thanks to The Nikonian for sharing the recipe on which I based this one.
I woke up today, to the sound of an amazing morning storm. One almighty crack of thunder shook the house and scared the hell out of the psychotic dogs. It seems that the creeping fear that the tornado planted inside me has waned somewhat and I felt mostly calm as the storm passed over us.
This afternoon, Adoring Husband and I went for a long walk on the beach. We calculated that we walked for about 5km as the tide went out and both of us left our phones at home, so there were no interruptions. It was very therapeutic.
The rest of my day was spent reading a book called 'Shaky Past'. The life story of a man who has reversed his Parkinson's symptoms through a combination of therapies.
He credits learning to love himself without condition, laughing, meditation and counselling at the top of his list, followed by Aqua Hydration Formulas, Bowen Therapy, diet, exercise and the love of close friends.
This is the first book that I've read since the Twilight Series, which I read about 5 years ago. Usually, I fall asleep after reading 3 pages, so for me to read a whole book in a day!? That's pretty amazing.
I was impressed with the man, how he survived the traumatic events in his life (which he feels contributed to developing this condition) his struggle to find answers and his never ending belief that 'something' would work eventually.
Tomorrow, I will start his next book 'Stop Parkin' and Start Livin'', which delves more deeply into his healing process ... although he states quite clearly that he doesn't believe that he is cured, just that he has reversed the symptoms.
Anyway, I will report back on that one when I'm done.
Once I've read the book, I have to focus on my studies. My second text book should arrive this week, so it will be 'head down, bum up' after that.
I'd really like to go see the movie 'Judge' some time this week too .. hint hint AH.

A Day of Arrivals
The first arrival for today, was the first Tawny chick for the season ...
We'll be watching this one closely to see if there might be other chicks underneath Mama!
In this particular photo, another bird flew down and landed on a branch about 2 feet away from the nest. Mama Tawny got quite loud, yelling at the bird to go away and you can see in this photo, the little chick opening her beak to copy mama. Very cute.
The second arrival of the day, was my first text book which arrived in the mail. The $245 book that I got for $30 and is in pristine condition and looks very scary with all it's scientific jargon!
Next was the arrival of all of yesterday's family photos to my iMac ready for editing!
My favourite is the one of Adoring Husband and Chicklet giving each other cheek across my lap, and in the last one, Chicklet was being very cheeky and got way too close for the camera to focus properly, however, I think it captures the essence of her cheekiness even without focus.
The fourth arrival for the day, was the electrician to install our new ceramic cooktop, which was done in a flash. It has touch controls instead of knobs to turn, so it will be easier to clean :)
That was my day of arrivals.
This blog post will arrive much earlier than usual too!
I now have a glass of wine at the ready to drink with dinner - chicken and vegetable casserole accompanied by asparagus and broccoli cooked in garlic butter. So much deliciousness!

Day Trip
It's been a lovely day.
We left bright and early and had a really good run all the way through to the Sunny Coast.
We stopped twice. Once to get a Sexie Coffee just this side of Maryborough and then again at Gympie to buy a gluten free pie.
Gympie has a pie shop that advertises on huge billboards as you get closer to town and on the bottom left corner of the billboard, it has a star announcing the new gluten free pie.
So we decided to try one .. even though we were meeting the Chicklet Family for breakfast.
We were both too lazy to make dinner the night before and all we did was share a few slices of smoked salmon, so we were starving by 8am!
The pie was DELICIOUS! $6.95 for a pie is a bit rich, but it really was delicious. I think they are worth the price, especially since we will probably only go there once every 3 months!
We eventually met up with the Chicklet family at the Sunspace Cafe in Doonan. It's a vegetarian cafe on about 20 acres of land, where they grow their own fruit and vegetables, the decor is all lovely old recycled pieces and they have live music on a Sunday morning, provided by a young man who set up in the outdoor area.
The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The smoothies and juices were made with fresh fruit, vegetables and other ingredients like chia seeds and nuts, instead of syrups, flavourings and bottled juices. It had a really relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and the service was warm and friendly.
I would go back again. I should have taken photos, but I was too busy being amused by, and amusing my little Chicklet.
Afterwards we followed the Chicklet family home, so that Adoring Husband could get the guided tour by Chicklet through the new house.
A couple of hours later after some playtime, some family photos and some negotiation, AH and I left for home, stopping at Eumundi to have a quick lunch at the LionsHead Hotel. They had a delicious GF salt and pepper calamari with chips and aioli.
The Hotel also had entertainment. A couple of bikers, one on guitar and the other on mouth organ, played a few songs while we ate and they had gathered a small crowd of their biker friends who applauded loudly at the end of each song.
The trip home always seems much longer than the trip down, don't you agree? We stopped for fuel once and then again at a farmers stall on the side of the road to buy some fresh fruit and vegetables. I got 2 red capsicum, a bag of onions, a BIG grocery bag of zucchini, a pineapple and a whole watermelon all for $12. Happy with that!
The psychotic dogs were very happy to see us arrive home safe and sound and after we fed them, we picked our own produce from the garden. 15 spears of asparagus, about a dozen mulberries and a colander full of cherry tomatoes.
We had the asparagus (cooked in garlic and butter) with a handful of cherry tomatoes and venison for AH, grass fed beef for me, for dinner.
That's our Sunday in a nutshell.
It was a good day and we are both exhausted and ready for a solid night's sleep.
Tomorrow, I hope to get time to edit the family photos and then share them here. Watch this space.

Saturday Night Dull
Do they make Saturday night TV dull for a reason?
Now that the football season is over, we are left to contend with movies that have been shown at least a dozen times over and repeats of every TV series from every decade since the 60s.
So Adoring Husband and I have watched The Muppet Movie and now we're watching an old 1943 Western called 'Desperadoes' starring Randolph Scott, Glenn Ford and Claire Trevor.
It's probably a good thing, since we are rising bright and early for a drive down to the Sunny Coast to visit the Chicklet family tomorrow.
The best thing about tonight is that I changed the sheets on the bed today, so I'll be sliding into nice crisp clean bedding. That's one of life's special pleasures.
For anybody who cares, Jack (the dog) is home and doing very well. The whites of his eyes are blood red as a side effect of the inflammation and high temperature of his condition, which makes him a little bit freaky to look at, but other than that, he is happily barking at the dog next door, so that's gotta be a good sign.
It's been a while since I shared some facebook quotes.

Sick as a Dog
We rushed our dog Jack into the Vets yesterday afternoon.
We feed our dogs at 3pm every day and usually, all three dogs come running. They bark and jump up and down, and run around in circles like circus animals full of excitement.
Jack is obsessed with the dog next door (Reb), and sometimes plants himself at the fence peering through the gaps at him. When he doesn't appear at feed time, we call out 'dinner' and he's at our feet in an instant!
Yesterday, Jack did not appear.
We found him cowering in a dog bed behind the ottoman near my study. He wouldn't (or couldn't) get up. When I demanded that he 'come here' (he usually walks to my feet when I make that demand), he attempted to move forward, but slumped back down with an apologetic look in his eyes.
Even though he cringed, I picked him up and he was very tense in the body. When I put him back down on the ground, he could barely stand up and when he tried to walk, he staggered and his back legs seemed uncoordinated.
He staggered outside for a pee and then struggled to get back up the one step into the house.
Adoring Husband offered him a mouthful of food and Jack turned away. We offered him some water and he turned away.
Wishing that I had some Valium to feed Adoring Husband, who by this time was panicking and talking in a very high pitched voice demanding to know what could be wrong with Jack - as if I'm the expert - we decided to take him into the Vets.
AH phoned the Vet to let them know that we were coming and told them that we thought perhaps Jack had a tick because he was displaying some of the symptoms .. like partial paralysis of the hind legs.
On the way into town Jack had a loss of bodily functions from both ends .. of course, in AH's panicked state, he didn't want to take the time to put anything down under Jack in the car, so he had a nice smelly mess to clean up later!
Luckily there was a towel in the back of the car, so we wrapped Jack in it and as we walked into the Vet's clinic, the reception area was full of people and their dogs and the receptionist looked up and asked if we had Jack.
She took him straight out the back and they did an immediate check for ticks .. which turned out to be clear.
Then we had to wait for a room to be free to take Jack for further investigation.
Finally the Vet came in and took Jack's temperature, which was a whopping 41C, took a sample of his stools (which by now were splattered all over his rear end!) and disappeared into the back rooms to do some tests on it.
He returned with the unpleasant news that Jack had pancreatitis, that he was in a very bad way and needed to stay there overnight with a saline drip, antibiotics and to be monitored closely overnight.
He said that this is caused by too much fat in the diet. We have always fed our dogs a raw meat diet and for the past few years have fed them heart smart mince from the butchers, so I'm not sure where the 'too much fat' comes from. We never feed our dogs scraps from our plates or anything OTHER than the mince.
You know me .. I am sceptical of this reasoning .. and having done a little research online last night, couldn't find any reference to too much fat EXCEPT where people feed their dogs the fatty scraps from their own plates, and that the highest incidences of pancreatitis in dogs usually occurs in the holiday seasons when humans tend to eat more junk or fatty foods and share it with their dogs.
However, we are now changing their diets from raw meat to processed dry food, on the Vet's advice and we'll see if that makes any difference to Jack's health.
The reason that I am sceptical of this Vet's advice, is that we have taken one of our other dogs to this same Vet twice in the last few months, with the same symptoms/complaint and have been given a different reason each time. She still suffers from the same complaint. If the change of diet doesn't make a difference to both of the dogs, I will be changing Vets (after I take a few months convincing Adoring Husband).
So the Vet phoned AH this morning to advise how Jack was doing and his temperature has dropped to 39C and he is doing well. The Vet wants us to leave Jack there until late this afternoon.
Wish us luck!
Adoring Husband has been on a special diet since he had his tumour removed in August. Something similar to the ketogenic diet to reduce the acidity in his body, which means removing, or considerably reducing, his intake of milk (which was getting close to 2 litres per day).
We've done this hoping that his PSA readings will either drop, or at the very least, steady off.
This has caused a bit of a dilemma for AH who loved his cereal in the mornings (which I made gluten free and sugar free) and now has to find a replacement breakfast.
AH is a creature of habit and abhors change of any kind, so it's been a struggle for him to change his thought processes for breakfast meals.
I was very pleased to see him take the initiative and create a healthful breakfast for himself ...
An egg wrap filled with mushroom, baby spinach, smoked salmon and feta cheese with a side of fresh asparagus out of the garden and some rocket. I was almost disappointed that I had declined his offer to make it for me too!
I am on nest watch at the moment.
There are two nests that I'm watching, but this one is the lowest and I'm hoping to get some nice shots of the chick/s when they hatch.
Can you believe it's just after midday! I'm twelve hours early!!
Afternoon all!

Playing on my Mind
This is going to be a bit of a rant, so if you disagree with my stance on doctors, or you are sick of listening to me harp on about what I consider to be dubious or questionable medical practises, then you should probably log out now.
After yesterday's visit to Adoring Husband's doctor, there are a couple of things that have really been playing on my mind.
First of all, while AH was taking antibiotics to prevent further infection after his dental procedure PLUS taking a steroid based nasal spray to help open his nasal passages that he was having trouble with, he began to experience chest pain and had trouble breathing.
Naturally, this was highly concerning for him and caused a bit of a panic.
I researched a bit more about Parkinson's Disease and there was some information about this being symptomatic of the disease, however, it doesn't usually just appear, it happens gradually and there are breathing and posture exercises that can help, as well as building strength in the core by exercising regularly .. cycling, walking etc.
It didn't seem to me that this sudden onset was anything to do with the Parkinsons, so I then checked the list of side effects for both of the medications that AH was taking and BOTH of them listed 'breathing difficulties' as side effects and both stated that he should either consult his doctor or stop taking it.
He stopped taking both immediately and soon the symptoms subsided .. not completely, because he still has a dull ache across his chest that we are investigating further.
So we tell his doctor this story about the side effects and he makes this scrunched up face and shakes his head stating "you know you can read the side effects for any medication and they will all list the same things".
He says it as if this list should be ignored and that we have to take the drugs and are going to suffer the side effects anyway, so why bother?
Seriously?
So what he is telling us, is that to stop feeling like s&*t, we have to take drugs (sometimes indefinitely) that make us feel like s&*t in a different way, and that we shouldn't question it.
NEXT ..
He tells AH that he thinks there may be an infection in his chest. Just a minor infection and that this is causing the dull ache that he is experiencing.
He makes this announcement after firstly listening to AH's chest and then reading AH's history which showed that in 2011 he had a chest x-ray highlighting some scarring from previous bronchial/lung problems in his life.
He then proceeds to explain that a prescription for antibiotics will soon clear that up.
Silence from Adoring Husband .. quite willing to accept some more drugs.
I said "He has just taken two rounds of antibiotics for the tooth abscess that he had. One round to get rid of the infections and then a second lot to prevent further infection after the dental procedure, which he only stopped taking 2 days ago. Shouldn't THAT have cleared any infection in his chest IF he had one?"
"Oh really?" was his response. "Yes *insert name of antibiotic here* should clear any general infections in the body. Ok, well, let's get an x-ray to rule out anything else and then we'll consider our next steps."
I'm sure you can tell that by now, I am seething.
I'm sitting in the chair beside Adoring Husband with my new book "Take Control of Your Health and Escape the Sickness Industry" on my lap, and at this moment, I would like very much to take an almighty swing and belt him over the head with it!
He knew that AH had just had dental work because of an abscess .. surely common sense would tell this health professional that drugs would have been involved.
It seems to me that Adoring Husband needs his 'Body Guard' with him for every visit.
You see, I always thought that a doctor was supposed to help us feel good.
I don't see any of my friends, who take ongoing medications, feeling good or feeling alive, energetic, vibrant, alert, healthy or healed.
Since AH has been seeing this particular doctor, I have seen him get sicker and sicker and every time he returns from a doctor's visit, he has at least one new prescription to have filled for yet more toxic drugs.
Every year there is a new diagnosis for a new disease or condition that was probably caused by one of the many toxic drugs that he has ingested over the years anyway.
What amazes me more than anything else .. is his pure and unadulterated scepticism of Naturopathy and the Natural Health industry which supports and facilitates the body's natural ability to heal without toxic drugs or invasive treatments.
The problem is, that there is so much damage already done by the medical and pharmaceutical industries, that it seriously takes a LOT of time and a lot of work to bring the human body back to a healthful state, by removing the toxins and healing everything from the inside out.
I don't believe that supplements are the answer .. for example, you can't take fish oil tablets and expect them to override all the toxic debris that you have in your body, to fix your aches and pains. You also can't abuse your body with poor diet, lack of activity, ingestion of toxic drugs for 30, 40 or 50 years and then expect to fix it overnight.
I believe that it's all about your attitude.
You can believe in your doctor 100% and continue taking the drugs on offer, but as your health continues to deteriorate and your mind becomes more and more negative about your 'lot' in life, nothing will ever change.
I've said it before .. and I'll say it again .. we have to take charge ourselves and be an active advocate for our own healthcare. Don't be ridden into the ground.
Meanwhile, this 'bodyguard' will be on permanent duty from here on in.
Nite all.

Nite all.
Blood Red .. or not
Bombarded all day long.
The radio. The television. Conversations between strangers.
A lunar eclipse.
Tonight, the moon would turn blood red as the eclipse reached it's peak. It promised to be a spectacular sight as the sun, the earth and the moon became perfectly aligned.
So Adoring Husband kept watch and as the moon began to change, I set my tripod up outside and began taking photos.
Very soon, the scattered cloud floated across the sky and the moon decided to hide for longer and longer periods of time. Every so often there would be a brief clear patch of sky and I would hurriedly take a couple more shots.
In the end, the clouds won and this is the best I could do.
Quite disappointing really. Certainly NOT blood red, as they promised. Less than spectacular.
There have been quite a few photos of tonight's moon posted on facebook and some of them are brilliant red and orange .. obviously tweaked with some extra saturated colour during editing.
There have also been lots of complaints about thick cloud cover over Cooktown to the north, and on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane to the south, so there are quite a few disappointed photographers scattered about the place.
Meanwhile, today, Adoring Husband and I spent a good part of the day in The Bay researching blenders, food processors and discussing the pros and cons of the Thermomix.
We had a delicious lunch at Aquavue and then popped in to the Go Natural Health food store, where I found a copy of a book that I've been wanting for some time. Now the I have it permanently in my hot little hands, I will be sharing snippets from it here in future posts.
I know you'll love it :)
While we were out, I got phone calls from Number One Son AND Vegan Chickie!
Number One Son is moving to Adelaide next week to start a new exciting and challenging job.
Vegan Chickie and Chicklet have been getting to know the families in their new neighbourhood, which, by the sounds of it, has also been exciting and challenging!
We bought a ticket to win $40 million in Thursday night's Powerball .. stay posted for THAT one!
A visit to Adoring Husband's Dr, who called me AH's 'Bodyguard'.
I admit that I like that title and I can also tell that the doctor struggles to do the right thing when I'm present .. AH left with only one prescription for his usual Parkinson's medication and for a change, no other prescriptions, although the doctor did attempt to issue more.
*sigh*
It's now after midnight and my eyelids are feeling a touch heavy, so ...

Bloggone it!
Oops!
I went to bed last night, quite late, and just as I was about to doze off, my eyes sprung open and I realised ... I forgot to do my blog!
Ah well, too late she cried!!
Yesterday afternoon, Adoring Husband and I did a barefoot walk on the beach which was really nice and I carried my camera with me (of course).
I began to study for the new term today.
This is going to be very interesting .. and quite a bit more intense than last term .. although I am not going to procrastinate for the first three months like I did last term! And then panic for the last three months!
This evening we gathered with a group of friends down at the Lions Park for a barbecue dinner, with each of us contributing a food plate.
There was a roast pumpkin, pine nut and spinach salad, garden salad, potato bake, coleslaw and four cheese tart. We each took our own meat and drinks.
Good food, good wine, good friends gathered at a perfect location for a really pleasant evening together. We are going to make it a regular event.
