Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Summery Autumn

I was too tired to post last night.

Between Harley, the heat, my kitchen duties and the effort required to find motivation to do anything, by the end of the day, I’m worn out.

I’ve been able to do a little more on my art each day. So far, I roughly calculate that this one has taken me 23 hours. I’ve probably got another 4-6 hours of work remaining.

It’s both therapeutic and draining at the same time! BGWLBH has completed about 18 pieces of art in the equivalent amount of time. Less intense, but simple and effective beautiful pieces.

We will be doing the local markets next weekend where we hope to sell my old shop stock, BGWLBH’s art and some pre-loved clothing.

Tomorrow, we’ll set up the gazebo, plan how our tables will fit and work out how to display our wares.

Let’s hope that weather is kind to us on 25th March.

I spent about an hour in the pool today, which was lovely and cool in this hot humid weather. Harley enjoyed it too.

So far, I’ve been very successful with my footy tips correctly tipping 3 from 3 this weekend. Five more games to go.

Now it’s time for me to sleep.

Showing Gratitude

I felt the need to thank my Wednesday girls for their support and friendship over the past year.

For a lot of the year, it was tough going for me and for a lot of Wednesdays, I really had to force myself to make the effort to attend the catch ups.

Thank goodness they were there because getting out was so good for my healing process and if Wednesdays were not an option, I’d have locked myself away and fallen into deeper, darker territory.

At 6am I was in the kitchen baking a chocolate cake and preparing a cheese ball and crackers. I packed a table cloth, paper plates, serviettes, a knife to cut the cake and cheese knives to scoop the cheese onto the crackers.

I asked Adoring Husband to look after Harley because I knew I couldn’t fit him, the cake and the bag containing everything else in the trike basket and also be able to carry my tea.

BGWLBH decided not to attend so I had no choice but to carry it all myself. Harley was not an option.

I arrived about 5 minutes before everybody else which gave me time to lay the tablecloth and set everything on the table.

The immediate comments were “Whose birthday is it?”

So I explained to them how grateful I was for their friendship during my lowest times and thanked them all for ‘being there’.

They were surprised, especially because they hadn’t realised that I was struggling so much, and they all hugged me and then chowed down on the food.

Surprisingly, it was a three hour morning so I didn’t return home until just before midday!

It was nice.

The rest of my day was lazing in front of the TV until play time with Harley and I cooked a chicken version of shepherds pie for dinner.

It felt like a good day.

Digging It

We had an early and noisy start to the day when a team of men with a noisy piece of machinery came to level the ground beneath the carport to lay some concrete.

So far, we are very impressed with their work ethic, their communication skills and their kindness and empathy.

They are doing everything in their power to do the right thing by Adoring Husband and getting specific with drainage, increasing the distance from the slab to the roof and doing some added extras.

Even though they were fighting among themselves briefly, we are happy with the job so far.

Harley was excited to see some men and went in for the waggy tail pat. He was very well behaved. No barking or whining and just allowed the men to get on with the job.

Harley and I had some fun today and he climbed all over me after he’d been swimming in the pool, then lay across me to prevent me from leaving. He makes me laugh.

I did a little bit more on my art.

A few hours of TV.

BGWLBH drove into The Bay.

I cooked lamb rack with buttery potato and sweet potato and stir fried beans, broccoli and carrots for dinner.

Now it’s 11pm and it’s time to sleep.

Blacked Out

I couldn’t post here last night because we had a huge storm and a 3 hour blackout including 2 hours without even phone reception.

I was asleep by 8.30pm. I woke at 10.30pm needing the toilet and found a lamp on, the outside light on and the TV blaring, so I turned them all off and returned to bed where I fell asleep instantly.

Last night and today, we’ve had just over 60mm of rain. We’ve had more big storms today but thankfully no power outages.

The heat and humidity has led us to the pool often over the last couple of days. Harley has especially found refuge in the cool water because his body runs hot at the best of times.

I’ve done some more to this piece of art …

I’m surprised by how long it’s taking me.

I watched the movie “Where the Crawdads Sing” and enjoyed it very much.

Swimming, playing with Harley, cooking and a bit of housework has filled my days.

BGWLBH took these pics of Harley today …

Time to sleep now.

Steamy Tonight

I just walked outside and the air is oppressively hot and steamy.

27°C at 9.30pm with 91% humidity.

Ugh.

The air conditioner will definitely be staying on tonight!

BGWLBH and I drove into The Bay early hoping to catch the markets but because of the rain, there were only food and beverage stalls open.

We made the most of them and purchased fresh eggs, raw honey, asparagus, berries, apples, pears, pineapples, kombucha (pineapple and ginger), some toxin neutraliser and a bottle of colloidal grape seed detoxifier.

Before we hit the markets, we had breakfast at ‘Salt’ cafe which was delicious, as always.

Our appointment at the nail salon was still over an hour away, so we drove to Pialba where I purchased my weekly lotto tickets, some coconut water and another stack of mixed berries. We walked over to Big W and browsed through Rivers to kill some time.

At the nail salon, I had a male attend to my pedicure and as soon as he removed my nail polish, I could see the damage to my nails. They were completely white where the nail polish had been, raised and very fragile. He used a blade to scrape the top layer of my nail off and I suggested that I rest them from nail polish, to which he agreed.

The only place that this damage could have occurred, is right there in the salon. I think it’s some kind of fungal problem - HE tells that I have a mineral deficiency and should take some tablets to strengthen my hair and nails and then showed me pictures of the bottles which I can get from any chemist … apparently.

What I WILL do, is paint my nails with good quality apple cider vinegar and watch my nails repair themselves and I will NEVER use that salon again.

I asked him to give me a decent foot massage to make up the time but he had a weak touch and obviously massaging was not his forte. Very disappointing.

I was still required to pay the $40.

Across the road I found a little salon that does every type of massage you can imagine, including a 30 minute foot massage for $40. THAT’S where I’m going next time!

We were home before 1pm and while I unpacked all the goodies, BGWLBH made her lunch. I ate the leftover chicken wings from last night and then parked my butt on the couch ready for the footy.

In the middle of the footy, I spent 45 minutes with Harley having cuddles and playing fetch and I prepared crumbed chicken with fresh coleslaw and sweet potato chips for dinner.

It’s now almost 10pm but feels like midnight because I’m struggling to keep my eyes open!

Time to sleep.

Ambushed

This morning I got to catch up with two of my favourite people in the whole world.

Lady Lynn and Rebel Mardi are back in town and I got to spend a very precious 90 minutes with them over coffee.

I totally felt the love and it was just like old times. I didn’t realise how much I’ve missed them until today and I wish I had more time in their precious company. It was healing and therapeutic.

I did not appreciate the ambush but I forgive them because I know that their intentions were honourable.

BGWLBH was leaving for The Bay just as I arrived home.

Feeling a bit peckish, I made myself a toasted sandwich and then planted myself in front of the telly for the day. I watched a movie and my quiz shows.

Harley got 30 minutes of play time in the pool area after which I prepared the hot and spicy sauce for our chicken wings that Adoring Husband cooked.

I had a good night with the footy, tipping both of tonight’s games correctly. I missed last nights game though.

It will be an early start tomorrow as BGWLBH and I will be going to the pier markets before our nail salon appointments.

So I should sleep now.

Drop Off Pick Up

This morning, Adoring Husband caught the train to Brisbane to see the Professor for his regular PD checkup so I was awake at 4am.

Harley joined us in the car and was very well behaved both ways.

At home, I was hoping to catch up on some sleep but Harley wouldn’t have a bar of it so we ended up in the pool area playing fetch.

He helped me spill half a cup of tea over myself so I decided to go swimming in my t-shirt and leggings. The water was lovely and I swam quite a few laps while Harley dropped the ball for me to throw at each end.

When we’d had enough, I fed him and then cooked breakfast for BGWLBH and I.

I attempted to do some art but I was so tired I had to go lie down.  Slept for 2 hours!

I watched my quiz shows and cooked tuna patties with salad for dinner and then we all piled into the car to pick AH up from the train station. The train was running a bit late so Harley and I wandered around the grounds to keep him occupied. He loved it.

So it’s been a long day.

Time to sleep.

Slow Start

3rd Highest Cause of Death

After a night of broken sleep, thanks to both mine and Harley’s bladders, I was up at 5.30am to let Harley out and then I returned to bed for about an hour.

Harley and I played in the pool area for about 45 minutes. When I said to him “Are we done? Shall we go now?” he jumped onto my lap and leant against me so that I couldn’t move! The harder I tried to get him off me, the harder he pushed his body against me so that I couldn’t move!

I laughed so hard I almost wet myself.

Eventually I escaped from his clutches and began to make breakfast for the clan.

Adoring Husband had to drive into The Bay for a scan and realised after I’d broken his eggs into the pan that he had to leave earlier than originally planned, so Harley got to enjoy an extra breakfast.

I did some more art, adding to the skull painting.

I watched a movie called “Ride the Eagle” which I quite enjoyed.

For dinner, I cooked a frittata with all the leftovers from last night’s lamb roast. It was delicious!

MAFS and then bed.

Time for me to sleep now (like Harley).
