Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Riding on Energy

BGWLBH left early this morning and did the markets. She was kind enough to bring home some GF donuts and two loaves of true sour dough bread.

Adoring Husband left early this morning for work and 2 coffee dates. He didn’t get home until after 10am.

I had risen at 9am and immediately played with Harley. He gave up after 20 minutes and was panting heavily for about 30 minutes afterwards! He didn’t even jump in the pool this morning and that’s generally a morning ritual.

I made myself presentable and waited for AH to return so that I could go for a ride on my trike.

After having coffee every day for the last 3 or 4 weeks, I didn’t have coffee on Thursday and by Thursday night I had a pounding headache. I can’t believe I’m already having caffeine withdrawals after such a short time back on coffee!

I chose to not have coffee on Friday and could feel just a gentle headache at the end of the day.

Today I chose to have a small coffee and drank 3/4 of it. I grabbed a few other groceries because I decided to make some tomato soup with our excess tomatoes from the garden.

I always make it up as I go along, so the ingredients in this batch of soup are:

  • Tomatoes (doh!)
  • Onion
  • Carrot
  • Celery
  • Red capsicum
  • Lentils
  • Chicken bone broth
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Turmeric
  • White pepper
  • Sea salt
  • Strawberries
  • Goji berries
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • LF cream
  • Maple syrup
  • Chillies
It was spicy, tangy and delicious - especially with fresh sour dough bread!

Anyway … earlier on my ride, I pedalled for 10 kms. I did 2.4kms and stopped to watch the goings on in the river. I did a further 2.6kms before stopping again to enjoy the lake. My final stint was 5.5kms going the long way home.

I did a complete circuit of the big lake, stopping briefly to watch the ducklings …

I rode to the lagoon which is near where the 92 yr old lady who I met yesterday lives.

I did a circuit of the protected bushland which has its own designated pathway.

All up, I was gone for almost two hours. I could easily have done another two hours. Pedalling is easy and with the wind in my hair and the cooler temperature, I felt energised … until I stopped haha … then I needed to lie down for half an hour!

I did some washing, made the soup - enough for each of us to have a bowl, plus 6 containers in the freezer - watched some golf, took Harley out for his afternoon play and while AH watched his regular TV shows, I came to my room to watch more golf and to do some journaling.

Again, I’m feeling weary, so it might be an early night for me.

Nite all.
