Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Kitchen Dance Marathon

Ok.

In the last two days, I have spent ten hours in the kitchen. Six hours today!

I have cooked or prepped:

  1. Twelve chicken schnitzels.
  2. Marinated chicken wings.
  3. Four bolognese filled potato cups.
  4. Six meals of tomato soup.
  5. Two dozen sausage rolls.
  6. Twenty porcupine meatballs.
  7. Seven servings of bolognese sauce.
  8. Five servings of butter chicken.
  9. Four servings of creamy chicken pot pies.
Three freezers are now completely full. That’s eleven drawers of various sizes - 2 extra large, 5 large and 4 small. We have enough prepared food to last approximately 2 months.

I didn’t take even one photo of my achievements today!

The pantry is also packed full of tuna, salmon, beans, chickpeas, rice, tinned tomatoes, coconut milk/cream, trident soups, miso soup, lentils, pastas, cake mixes, crackers, cookies etc etc.

The fridge is full of fresh fruit and vegetables, jams, pickled veg, relishes, sauces, yoghurts, cream, all the cheeses, butter etc etc.

If the apocalypse happens tomorrow, we are well prepared.

We have seeds to grow tomatoes, cucumber, capsicum, corn, radishes, zucchini, beans, snap peas, snow peas, onions, spring onions, watermelon, pumpkin, squash, rockmelon, all the herbs, celery, lettuce, spinach, silver beet, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and eggplant.

We currently grow tomatoes, chillies, blueberries, lemons, avocado, passionfruit, pineapples, sweet potatoes, ginger, turmeric, coriander, parsley, mint, rosemary, thyme and dill.

We certainly will not starve to death!

Tomorrow I have an “exercise” date with The Motivator at 11am. After that, I plan on spending the entire afternoon on my bed being lazy and self indulgent.

I think it’s time to sleep now.

Nite all.
