Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Star Quality

I asked a local lady to video our routine today. It was lovely of her to agree to do it, but unfortunately, she only got 3 minutes of the 7 minute routine.

Three minutes is better than nothing.

For your viewing pleasure …

Surprisingly, I felt totally calm and completely comfortable in front of the smaller than usual, but still substantial, crowd.

Other entertainment was a belly dancer (in her late 70s) who performed three dances including a silk scarf dance and a fan dance, a ukulele group (half of whom didn’t turn up) who sang and played 4 songs and the Village Voices Choir who sang 4 songs.

Afterwards, to celebrate, The Gypsy and I purchased a coffee and drove down to the park where we found a bench seat in the shade overlooking the water and we chatted for about 2 hours.

There was a Brahminy Kite hunting for food from atop a yacht mast, which had me mesmerised for a while.

I was home just after 1pm feeling pretty worn out. We had practiced for an hour before we performed, there was socialising with some of the locals (always draining for me) plus the routine, plus the 2 hours of fresh air and chatting. Our chats are very deep and philosophical which also can be draining - VERY enjoyable and inspiring, but tiring.

Thank goodness it was “fend for yourself” night and I didn’t have to worry about cooking. I had made up some boiled egg mix on Thursday - boiled eggs, butter, salt, pepper and coleslaw dressing - yum and my dinner tonight.

Now I’m ready to sleep.

Nite all.
