Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Hours of Solitude

After a solid nights sleep, I took Harley out to play at 8.30am for 45 minutes.

The weather was lovely so I decided to go for a ride.

Adoring Husband was getting ready for golf and BGWLBH was preparing for a hair appointment, so I set myself a time of one hour so that I could be back when they were due to leave.

The tide was coming in and the river looked beautiful. I counted 15 people fishing along the riverbank. There were kids on scooters and bikes, older people walking their dogs, a couple of men tossing the net for bait fish, women catching up at the picnic tables, parents and grandparents monitoring their kids and g’kids, caravaners drinking coffee under their canopies and watching the boaties on the river.

I sat with my coffee on a bench seat under a tree and became a part of the energy.

I had to delete photos from my phone so that I could take more!

I moved further down the river to take more pics.

Then I pedalled to the boat ramp for more pics.

I arrived home just as BGWLBH was leaving for her appointment.

AH left soon after.

I got to enjoy 3.5 hours of solitude.

I watched a Mayim Bialik interview with Rupert Spira: You Have Never Seen Reality.

Blew my mind!

I took one of my empty journals to take notes. In future, I’m going to take notes with all of her interviews because my brain is not capable of remembering so many details, so many names, so many concepts, so many experiences and they are all so intriguing and interesting. I NEED notes!

Right now, as I write this, I’m listening to an 1Claire Khenar interview with Joe Dispenza. I wish I could afford to attend one of his seminars! This interview is about “The Mindset that Attracts Abundance”.

It’s already 10.14pm and I’m trying to create a habit of sleeping before 11pm, so it’s time to sign out.

Nite all.

Lotto Looming

Half a day in the Bay to do lotto and buy some sourdough bread fresh from the baker.

In a couple of weeks, we won’t need to go into the Bay for Lotto because our Foodworks supermarket is currently setting up a lotto station and training up staff to man it! Let’s hope it’s lucky!

That was my ‘to do’ list.

BGWLBH had her own list and she has a hair appointment tomorrow, so our trip had to be today.

We were home by 2pm and my eyes were very tired, so I lay on my bed for 90 minutes resting them.

Chicken rollups wrapped in bacon for dinner. The stuffing tonight was goats cheese, mayonnaise, chilli sauce, fried onion and mushrooms, parsley.

Served with potato salad, wombok salad and cherry tomatoes.

Last Wednesday, Adoring Husband’s ankle collapsed from under him. It was very dramatic. But miraculously, he was able to play golf the next day without a problem.

Tonight (Wednesday), his knee collapsed from under him - even MORE dramatic - he fell on the dog and onto the floor. He still plans on playing golf tomorrow. No sympathy from me unless golf is suffering.

Just saying.

It’s only early but I need to rest my eyes some more.

Un-Spring-like

I arrived at meditation on time today!

As always, it was a great class.

There was no catch up with The Gypsy afterwards because she had an appointment, so I did a small grocery shop, grabbed myself a coffee and rode home the back way along the river path.

I must stop getting a coffee every day - I will be addicted before I know it!

There were lots of kids and young people fishing along the banks of the river. It’s the first time this season that it actually looked like school holidays.

There was also a young girl blowing giant bubbles across the water. It looked so cool with so many bubbles floating above the water on the breeze. I stopped my trike and watched her for about ten minutes. No photos because she was a young person and there were lots of kids around.

The weather was NOT very Spring-like today …

Luckily, I didn’t get caught in any rain showers. It rained quite heavily during our class though.

I got home and unpacked the groceries and my belly was calling for food, so I cooked some crumbed chicken tenderloins and made a chilly tomato sauce to dip them.

We watched some mini golf docos, followed by the movie “Twelve Monkeys” starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. It was made in 1995. I missed the first 20 minutes which I think must be vital to fully understand the rest of the movie, but I really enjoyed that one.

Tonight’s dinner was baked sticky lime chicken with baked potatoes, pumpkin, onion, carrot and cherry tomatoes. Garlic butter asparagus on the side.

I’ve already done some journaling tonight and I’m watching MKR right now.

BGWLBH worked today.

AH has made a soursop tea for me and I’m going to snuggle under the covers and hopefully fall asleep soon. My sleep was very broken last night so I’m a bit tired.

Steamer Memories

I got a good nights sleep and woke at 6.30am.

I watched the end of a disappointing Presidents Cup (golf). The Internationals played very poorly in the final round.

I took Harley out to play for about 45 minutes and when I came inside, BGWLBH had set up the ironing board to do her large pile of ironing.

She usually does my ironing too, but MY pile was HUGE, so I decided to set up my old steamer from when I had the shop and do it myself. I think I had about 32 items, but I gave up at 24.

Steaming is much easier than ironing!

By then, it was 11.30am and I was hungry!

I took my washing off the line and placed it carefully on my bed before preparing some food. Adoring Husband had to go to the supermarket, so I put in my order for a small lactose free latte.

We watched an oldie but a goodie on the Classics channel - “To Catch a Thief” with Carey Grant and Grace Kelly made in 1955! I enjoyed it very much.

I did a big declutter from my wardrobe before hanging my freshly steamed clothes. I folded my washing and put it away. That was enough productivity for one day … except for cooking dinner.

BGWLBH got chicken schnitzel and AH and I had crispy skinned salmon with garden salad, buttery potatoes and wombok salad. I made an avocado, mango, pine nut and goats cheese salad for myself. Yum.

That was it for me.

I have meditation early tomorrow so it’s time for sleep.

Footy Fever

It’s Sunday.

I woke up quite early this morning and immediately turned on the Presidents Cup Golf. I’d already missed a lot of it, but I enjoyed watching the Internationals make a comeback to keep well ahead of USA on the points board.

I took Harley out to play at 8.30am for about an hour, before making myself some GF crumpets for breakfast. Adoring Husband drove to the shops to get coffee for us all.

We watched a replay of the golf until midday when I decided that my bed was calling me.

I did some art while watching or listening to two Mayim Bialik podcasts and then part of an interview with Diary of a CEO.

Then the preliminary NRL final between Newcastle Knights and Penrith Panthers came on at 4pm.

The score was 6-6 at the 35 minute mark when Nathan Cleary was awkwardly tackled and suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle and lower leg. It was nasty.

The Knights player who tackled him was sent off for the rest of the game, so The team had to play the entire rest of the match one man down. While the Panthers had a full team on the field, they were without their leader and play maker.

I had tipped the Knights to win, but at that point I lost all hope for them, because Penrith were the minor premiers AND have years of experience playing in these pressure finals matches. Also, just last year, Knights were the wooden spooners!

Who’d have thunk that Knights would fight so hard and end up winning 22-14. What a brilliant game with an emotional finish.

It was easy spaghetti Sunday.

Now I’m watching The Voice finale from my bed.

I Need a Free Day

Six days in a row of being social, shopping and reconnecting.

I am weary.

If my energy is low tomorrow (Sunday), I might just spend some extended rejuvenating time in my bedroom.

I took Harley out to play at 8.40am.

BGWLBH invited me into The Bay, but I declined her offer.

The Gypsy is currently house and dog sitting so I decided, this afternoon, to visit her.

I watched a movie with Adoring Husband beforehand. It was on Netflix and was called “The Late Bloomer”. Apparently, loosely based on a true story. It was a fairly easy watch, with many recognisable actors. It certainly didn’t require any brain work, but it killed 90 minutes until I left to visit The Gypsy.

At 1pm I hopped on my trike and rode the 350 metres to where she is staying. We sat on the front deck for 3 hours chatting about everything and anything while taking in the view of tall trees, green grass and the glistening blue waters of the river.

We drank tea while watching people get swooped by nesting magpies, which was quite entertaining.

At 4pm I returned home to catch the second half of the AFL grand final between Fremantle and Brisbane Lions. The score at half time was 43-43. The score seesawed throughout the game and with 4 minutes remaining, Brisbane Lions were losing by 17 points. They found a whole new gear in that final 4 minutes and ended up winning 96-89 for their third grand final win in a row.

My ‘fend for yourself’ dinner was chicken sausages in tomato and onion gravy with leftover mashed potato. It was delicious comfort food.

We usually watch 3 games of NRL football on a Saturday afternoon/evening, so we are feeling a bit lost tonight with no NRL at all.

We have to wait until 4pm Sunday for the preliminary final between Penrith Panthers and Newcastle Knights. I’ve tipped the Knights. Wishful thinking probably.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Rainy Start

Another day in The Bay.

Thanks to a visit to Office Works, my obsession continues …

… another journal, 3 notebooks and a sticker book full of Winnie the Pooh pics and quotes.

We had breakfast at Arkarra Tea Gardens and were accosted by magpies! I leant across the table and picked up some bacon fat off BGWLBH’s plate, but before I could put it in my mouth, a magpie flew between us and stole it from between my fingers!

THEN …

BGWLBH picked up some fat to toss to the magpie, but her hand was barely ten inches above the plate, when the magpie did the same thing to her! Impatient little bugger.

They were very brave.

It was raining quite heavily between Craignish and Hervey Bay and there were a lot of large puddles lying across the roads and in the car parks.

BGWLBH went to work at midday so I did a lot of walking, browsing, wandering, sitting, drinking tea and wasting time for four hours. In that time, I only purchased some bacon and sausages from the butcher and some juice and cake from Jam Jar Cafe. I couldn’t find anything else worth spending my money on.

Needless to say, I am feeling very weary this evening.

BGWLBH shouted us takeaway dinner from Mum’s Charcoal and Grill. Roasted chicken, cheesy cauliflower, potato bake and coleslaw. It was nice to not have to think about dinner.

I’m watching Roosters vs Dolphins in the first preliminary final for the weekend. Roosters are winning 22-10 with 32 minutes to go.

I feel that I will sleep well tonight.

Riverside

It was morning coffee with the art girls day.

A little breezy but still quite comfortable under the shelter at the park. The tide was quite high, the sky was blue, there were people fishing, walking their dogs, riding their scooters, bikes and trikes, cooking bacon and eggs on the public barbecues and reading under the trees.

For school holidays, it’s pretty quiet in town. The caravan parks are not even half full and our local baker has gone on holidays for two weeks!

We had two hours catching up with each others news and sharing the town gossip before we said our farewells and headed off in different directions

I rode my trike and stopped at the supermarket for some lunch to take home.

Spent the afternoon in bed with Harley leaning against me while I watched Jet Lag and my quiz shows.

I made a quick and easy creamy chicken, bacon and mushroom pasta for dinner and served it with a garden salad.

Even though I dozed during the afternoon, I’m feeling a bit weary now. It’s 10pm.

I think I’m going into The Bay tomorrow so I’d best get some sleep.

Cupboard is Full

BGWLBH had an appointment at the nail salon this morning so I decided to accompany her into The Bay.

After the appointment, we had plenty on our list so we were all over the place. Eleven different shops.

The nail appointment was for 9.30am and we were home before 2pm with a boot load of bags. Nothing exciting and mostly food or supermarket items like tissues, toilet paper, ziplock bags, freezer bags, paper towels etc.

In the shopping centre was a pop up kiosk set up to recruit and sign up people to provide regular donations for research into Diabetes and Heart Disease. Today they were focusing on Heart Disease.

The young man (I guess at age 22) was trying to attract my attention, but after I said “no” and tried to walk away, he waved a card and said “we are just trying to give away these cards” and waved it toward me. So I took it …

I hit him on his shoulder and called him a dick.

But then I did actually listen for about ten minutes.

He rambled on about new medical breakthroughs and figures on heart disease deaths. Apparently, in Australia, one person dies of heart disease every 12 minutes.

He attempted to get my contact details and card details so that the organisation could contact me in the future regarding donations.

I declined.

He tried from another angle but I declined again and he very politely accepted my decision and as I walked away, he wished me a good day.

He was an interesting distraction in my day.

I cooked stuffed chicken breast rollups for dinner and served it with roast pumpkin and spinach salad and grilled tomatoes. Adoring Husband went for seconds.

It’s now almost 10.30pm and I have morning tea with the art girls tomorrow morning, so I’d best get some sleep.
