Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Solid Sleep

After only three hours of sleep on Thursday night, I fell asleep instantly at midnight and slept a solid nine hours on Friday night.

I was surprised when I opened my eyes and checked the time at 9.20am!

When I got up to make myself breakfast, BGWLBH put in a tentative request for poached eggs so I reevaluated and decided that would be a delicious way to start my day.

After breakfast I did a few small jobs like watering the indoor plants, emptying the bin, tidying up and because it was such a beautiful day, I took my iPad outside to watch an uncensored video full of amazing and interesting information.

Our Coles delivery arrived much earlier than I expected so I moved inside to unpack the groceries.

We played trivia for a couple of hours and AH and I watched a movie before I prepared duck a l’orange with mash, beans, broccolini and carrot for my two housemates. I ate a mandarin.

We’ve spent the evening watching football finals.

I think I’ll do some art tomorrow and attempt to finish my octopus.

I don’t think I can watch anymore of this Cronulla Sharks vs QLD Cowboys game. It’s too stressful!

As Expected

We woke to the news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing overnight. She was 96 yrs old which is an excellent innings and everybody knew the end was nigh, yet the world mourns when they should be celebrating a life fully lived.

The next week will be filled with everything ‘Elizabeth’ - all the usual programs have been replaced with Royal stories and I for one am already over it. No offence to any royalist out there. I’m sure you’re soaking it all up and enjoying the reminiscing.

May she Rest In Peace.

As expected, we had a big day in The Bay.

We left here well before 7.30am expecting to breakfast at Dan And Steph’s but there was a triathlon in progress and the Esplanade was closed from Bideford Street through to William Street, which is a good 3-4kms and certainly hindered our attempts for breakfast.

So we opted for Salt cafe instead. The eggs were a touch overdone and the bacon was crispy - not how I like it but it filled our empty bellies. We took our time because we had two hours to kill until our nail appointment.

Because of the triathlon, to visit Banana Bender (a ladies clothing store) and Go Girl, we had to park a fair distance away and walk. This filled some more time until our appointment and we both made purchases.

Even though our appointments were for 10am, the girl wasn’t ready to do my pedicure until about 10.15am. BGWLBH was getting infills and was seated straight away.

This salon had rave reviews but I wasn’t impressed. A pedicure spa involves a foot and lower leg massage but I felt like that part of the service was a horrible chore for them and it was short and lacklustre. They used hot rocks but very soft hands and I was left wanting more.

They didn’t have a large selection of nail polish so the blue I was hoping for wasn’t on their shelves and I chose a different shade. It’s acceptable … just. I think, from now on, I shall take my own nail polish.

The appointment took much longer than any of the other salons that we’ve attended previously and our results were of a lower quality.

From there we made our way to Stocklands where we purchased our lotto tickets, BGWLBH visited her bank, I browsed through Robins Kitchen and we poked our heads into almost every shop. I found some beautiful tops but they were too long for my short body. Jewellery was purchased (not by me) and we considered handbags, coffee mugs, bras, books, candles and clothing from every store.

We grocery shopped, sat for coffee and visited the bakery.

The Bay was VERY busy, the traffic was slow, banked up and crazy and we must have got every red light possible! It seemed to take forever to get anywhere and then another length of forever to find a park! Even though we started to leave town at 3pm, it was 4.30pm by the time we arrived home!

We were exhausted!

Thankfully, Adoring Husband had put dinner in the oven - the usual spicy chicken wings - so we unpacked our shopping and got changed. Dinner was served at 5.30-ish.

We played trivia for less than 30 minutes and BGWLBH retired to her room. I napped on the couch waiting for the football to start. It was a tough game.

It’s late now.

Maintenance

Today was expensive!

Our pool is four years old! Can you believe it!?

Parts of our filter and cleaning system are in need of repair or replacement so our pool guy gave us a quote a few weeks ago and today he came to do the work.

Unfortunately there is still a problem which hopefully will be fixed in the morning.

I had a deliciously lazy day, staying in bed for most of it.

At 10am I made breakfast and returned to bed with it. I would have taken it to the Bali hut but didn’t want to be there when the pool guy arrived.

The only reason I got out of bed at lunch time was because BGWLBH went to the trouble of preparing a platter for lunch and I was still full from breakfast, but decided to join them to watch them eat.

After lunch AH and I watched Spicks and Specks until my quiz shows came on and I sent him to the butcher to collect our chicken order.

I made spicy chicken thighs for dinner with salad and sweet potato chips. Our salad included the first cucumber from the garden and OMG the flavour was glorious! I’d forgotten how good fresh cucumber straight from the garden was. So delicious!

We played trivia for about 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, because it’s the first week of finals, there was no football tonight so AH fell asleep while we watched QI, which gave me a reason to come to bed early where I watched Great Pottery Throw Down on my iPad.

BGWLBH and I have a nail salon appointment in the morning and we plan on breakfast at Dan and Steph’s beforehand. We have quite an extensive ‘to do’ list so it will be a full day in The Bay.

Best get some sleep!

Tough Start

I went to sleep some time after midnight, woke at 2am to pee, went straight back to sleep but strangely woke again at 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep.

No idea 😳

Laying in bed with my eyes closed for two hours didn’t work and all I did was wonder why I wasn’t falling asleep. By the time I had to get up for my coffee date, I was exhausted!

It was tough going. I struggled big time to get out of bed and almost cancelled my date.

As it was, I arrived late and with only three of us there, just over an hour later, we all left when one had to go to work.

I picked up a parcel at the post office, came home to play trivia for an hour, made fried rice with fish for lunch, watched an interesting Al Pacino movie then fell asleep watching my quiz shows.

Adoring Husband cooked some bangers on the barbecue and I did mashed sweet potato and Dutch cream potato, beans, carrot and home made gravy for dinner.

We played more trivia.

Watched The Block.

Came to bed at 10pm and now as it approaches midnight, I feel that I will sleep soundly tonight!

Nite all.

Nowhere and Nothing

I’ve been nowhere and done nothing apart from the usual.

I’ve worked on my art for about 3.5 hours so still a way to go.

BGWLBH is still under the weather with her sinus condition.

Adoring Husband and I are both well.

The garden is still thriving.

Looking forward to morning coffee at the park tomorrow.

Now it’s time to sleep because it’s after midnight.

Not My Usual

I woke before 7am.

Adoring Husband came into the room just after 8am asking if I wanted breakfast so I jumped out of bed to poach the eggs while he did the bacon in the air fryer and toasted the bread.

We all enjoyed our yummy breakfast.

I returned to my room to watch the second half of a show I’d started earlier.

Then the big chore of the day for me was my hand washing which I have been putting off for months. I have so many silk and delicate tops and I hand washed 14 of them today. It took 90 minutes! Most of them needed fresh water each time because of dye run, so emptying and refilling the tub was time consuming.

Most of them dried in the strong breeze blowing outside the laundry and the others are currently drying IN the laundry. I’m so glad I’m done with that chore.

I did another two loads of machine washing and put away some other dry stuff from the line.

I watched the footy with Adoring Husband and in between games made a chicken dish with laksa paste, pear and onion. I also cooked chard, cherry tomatoes, bacon and roasted sweet potato together. Finally, carrot, snap peas and snow peas.

As BGWLBH said, there’s nothing nicer than eating fresh organic food taken straight from the garden, knowing it was grown with love.

We played TV trivia for an hour until our shows came on. Farmer Wants a Wife which started tonight for me and still The Block for her.

I have certainly missed my lazy Sunday in bed, that’s for sure, but I’m pleased to have that horrible job out of the way.

Off to bed for me now.

Nite all.

Socially Excited

Today BGWLBH and I had a social outing to talk all things conspiracy, Covid, vaccine related with a like minded individual.

It was both inspiring and scary.

It’s nice to talk to people who have been like minded from the start but even better to find people who have become like minded during this ordeal.

The ones who, at the beginning, believed everything that was being dished out and have since realised that nothing makes sense and they went in search of the truth.

I think the “newly like minded” are more angry than the originals.

But anyway, we had a fab day!

Adoring Husband made himself useful in our absence and put a new lock and handle on our front door. This has been on his “to do” list (which I created) for quite some time so it was nice to cross something off that list.

Bubbles made contact to tell me that she will be on the Sunny Coast in a couple of weeks for a few days, so BGWLBH and I have booked ourselves five nights at Alexandra Headland which is just a couple of kms from where Bubbles is staying.

Since we never got to go on our road trip, this will be a nice little holiday not too far from home to refresh, restore, rejuvenate and regenerate our souls.

Unfortunately AH can’t come because of work commitments and Bubbles is disappointed, but promises that she will come to our place for a couple of weeks in February next year.

I made a zucchini slice with a giant zucchini from our garden (should have taken a pic!) and served it with sweet potato chips and garden salad. One of our neighbours has a friend nearby who grows sweet potatoes on his farm, so we are lucky to receive a box of them fresh from that farm every few weeks.

It’s been a night of footy which I’ve enjoyed and it’s just gone past midnight so it’s sleep time for me!
