Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Ditched the Market

With forecasted winds of 25kph and gusts above 35kph, we decided to forego our $15 site fee and miss the markets altogether.

We’ve experienced windy conditions at these markets in the past and it was very unpleasant.

It was unfortunate because BGWLBH had put a lot of work and effort into displaying and pricing the jewellery and art pieces that we’d planned on selling. The next market is in November, so we will plan for that one instead.

It meant I didn’t have to get out of bed early, which, as you know, I prefer!

I played with Harley this morning, heated up my leftover curry puffs for breakfast and then parked my butt in front of the TV all day.

I watched two episodes of Portrait Artist of the Year, half of a movie called “Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves”, which I really enjoyed, followed by the second NRL final of the weekend where Melbourne Storm defeated Cronulla Sharks (much to Adoring Husband’s distress) and we watched the second half of the movie before the third footy final between Cowboys and Knights started.

Cowboys won!

We were switching between channels to see the result of the AFL final between GWS Giants and Brisbane Lions.

It was difficult to watch because Brisbane Lions were losing by more than 40 points at one stage. The closest they got while we were watching, was 13 points and it started to blow out so I switched channels because I couldn’t bear to watch them lose such an important game!

I have just checked the scores to discover that Brisbane won by 5 points! I really wish I’d watched it now.

It was ‘fend for yourself’ night for dinner.

AH cooked all of our chosen protein on the barbecue and BGWLBH made three salads which she invited us to share.

So nobody really fended for themselves, but the food was all lovely and I fended the least of everyone so it was a win win for me.

Now it’s time to sleep for me.

Friday Friendlies

I did lunch with some old girlfriends today.

It’s been a long time and I quite enjoyed myself.

Mrs Bucket, The Speckled Hen, Chef Pat and The Chilli Queen were my lunch dates and for the first time in ten years, I actually enjoyed the food served in the restaurant.

I haven't eaten there for two years. I’ve probably eaten there 6 times in the last ten yrs - whenever a new chef comes in, I give them a chance.

I ordered grilled barramundi with mash and vegetables. It was so good, I asked for a doggy bag when I couldn’t eat everything on my plate!

It was nice to spend time the girls. Everyone was lucky with their gambling except me!

I was home by 2.30pm and the three hours passed quickly. I think I’ll join them again in the future.

BGWLBH and I were going to do the markets tomorrow and we have booked and paid for our site, but the weather forecast is for strong winds so we’ve decided to give it a miss. We’ll lose our $15 but the last time we set up on a windy day, we damaged some of our stock and had to spend time holding on to the legs of our gazebo so that it wouldn’t fly away.

Penrith thrashed Roosters in the first NRL final tonight. It was to be expected.

The AFL match between Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide is much closer with only five points difference  and 8 minutes to go.

I’m feeling quite weary now so it’s time to sleep.

Night Time Rain

An uneventful day in The Bay.

It was really busy. The traffic was crazy and the car parks were impossible!

It was exhausting.

At least we left before school got out so we weren’t caught in the ‘pick up’ traffic like we are usually.

I made curry puffs for dinner which went down a treat.

No trivia tonight.

Adoring Husband and I watched a movie called “Freelance” which was pretty good.

It’s been raining tonight!

I’m off on a lunch date tomorrow so watch this space.

Nothing Doing

It was a very uneventful day.

Harley and I played …

I watched a Netflix movie.

Adoring Husband cooked dinner - chicken parmigiana - I can’t tell you if it was delicious because I don’t eat chicken parmigiana, which meant that I just missed out on dinner.

My belly was complaining by 7pm, so I go something out of the freezer for myself. It’s becoming a habit.

Not happy Jan.

Judge: Why did you hit your husband with a chair?

Wife: The table was too heavy.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

A Morning For Me

My Tuesday morning of self care was, as usual, very enjoyable, calming and insightful.

I did my hooping qi gong at double and triple time while The Gypsy gave instructions to newbies. Every week there is at least one newbie that needs one on one attention to bring them up to speed.

I don’t mind that, because I get to hone my skills separate from everyone else, except I overdo it and completely wear myself out.

The Gypsy and I had two hours together after the classes.

There is a lot of philosophising in our conversations and two hours pass so quickly. It always feels like we haven’t finished saying everything that needs to be said, but we know that we can’t sit under the shaelter for six hours to do that.

Until next week!

Adoring Husband got the results of his chest x-ray and there is nothing sinister going on there. He has some issues that can easily be fixed so we’ll see if he can be disciplined enough and if his memory supports good health practices.

It’s up to him.

I had a delicious tomato from the garden on my sandwich for lunch. It was bursting with sweet juicy flavour - beyond orgasmic!

For dinner, I made zucchini slice in a muffin tray so they look like muffins. I cooked chicken coriander Maryland which was surprisingly delicious and did a baby spinach, pumpkin and pine nut salad. Everyone was sated.

After all that exercise and all that philosophising and all that cooking, I’m  feeling very weary tonight so it’s time to sleep now.

Start the Week

A nice start to the week searching far and wide for eggs!

The shelves were bare in Coles, Woollies and where we usually buy them, Farm Gate Fruit n Veg at Eli Waters.

We gave up and on the way home, decided to try our local butcher, who usually stocks some local Childers eggs.

Success!!!!

They had cartons of ten “massive” eggs, so I purchased three cartons. That should keep us going for a while.

We renewed our lottos.

I popped in to profusely thank the jeweller who repaired my watch - because it brings me joy every time I check the time!

We did the chemist, two butchers, Big W, fruit and veg, Choice, Su Jus, Seafood shop, two newsagents, Indian takeaway, art n craft shop, lady’s boutique and more. We actually left The Bay at 2pm but by the time we did the egg search, drove home, found the eggs and checked for mail, it was almost 3.30pm by the time we pulled in the driveway.

It was a long day.

Indian takeaway was a great idea, although Adoring Husband remembered that it was his turn to cook and had bought chicken breasts and crumbed them! So they are now in the freezer for another night.

I cooked one of those pieces of chicken for BGWLBH because she swears that there is MSG in the curries which made her very unwell last time.

I’m allergic to MSG and wasn’t affected, so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

AH and I had duck curry, coconut chicken and coconut rice.

We played trivia and then watched the first episode of the new season of MKR.

The tennis is over so I get to sleep through the night. Tomorrow is meditation and hoopqigongercise so it will be an early start.

Time to sleep.

Sunday Funday

I was thinking today, about Harley and how well I’ve trained him over the past (almost) 2 years. You’ve got to realise that I had to train two other humans at the same time!

The commands that he responds to, or words that he understands, are:

  1. Sit
  2. Come
  3. Up
  4. Down
  5. Get your toy
  6. Get the ball
  7. Stay
  8. Wait
  9. Ready
  10. Leave it
  11. Have a rest now
  12. Outside
  13. Do you want a treat?
  14. Do you want your bone?
  15. Go pee
  16. Bed time
  17. Lie down and be a good boy
  18. Out of the kitchen
  19. Ready to play?
  20. Go to Mum
  21. Put it down (Instead of drop it)
  22. Want some dinner?
  23. Are you hungry?
  24. No
  25. Ok
  26. We’re done
  27. Give me cuddles
  28. Pool/swim
  29. Get the birds!
I’m sure there’s more, but that’s all I can think of for now. He’s such a clever boy!

I set my alarm for 3.30am to watch the Aussie boys play the doubles tennis finals. Unfortunately the match started at 2am and I turned on the TV in time to see them receive their winning trophy!

Bugger.

At least they won.

I reset my alarm for 6am to watch the lady’s singles final. I saw the entire match and my favourite, Sabalenka, won her first US Open Slam.

BGWLBH and I filled my new jewellery boxes with jewellery from the broken jewellery case …

I did two loads of washing.

I ate lunch with Harley …

He’s a good boy.

Watched the footy.

Made Nachos for dinner.

Played trivia.

Watched The Voice.

Now it’s time to sleep.
