Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

A Bit Arty

None of these are finished yet …

… but are works currently in progress.

In between playing with Harley, doing some washing, cooking breakfast and assisting Adoring Husband reassemble the compost bin, I got to do some art.

I hope to do some art tomorrow too.

The remainder of the day was for watching the Kevin Costner movie “Tin Cup” (swooning over Kevin Costner) and three games of football. I have only tipped one correctly out of six!

I almost went for a swim at 8am because the water felt so nice, but I decided to wait until the afternoon - bad decision because it felt much cooler by then. Too cold for swimming.

Now I need to sleep.

Long Lunch

A spin on my normal daily routine was a lunch date with The Motivator.

She picked me up at 11.45am and we drove to Salty Squid at Toogoom where we found a table outside and spent two hours catching up.

It’s been ten months since we talked so there was LOTS to catch up on!

Our meals were delicious. She had the squid and I had the prawns and we divided them both so that we could share. My salad was a little soggy but otherwise very large and very nice meals.

An unexpected surprise was a bag of birthday gifts that she handed me. A bright colourful and beautiful rug that she had crocheted herself, a set of place mats and a set of colourful boho type coasters. With them was a gorgeous card with heartfelt words hand written by The Motivator herself.

It was really nice to catch up and we chatted non stop just like old times.

After a couple of hours, it was time to leave because she has a standing date that she was on her way to attend. In reality, our date was perfect and a nice way to ease back into regular catch ups.

I’d had a restless night so by the time TM dropped me home, I was ready for a nap - the best I could do was a 20 minute Power Nap on the couch and then it was time to play with Harley.

Now it’s time to watch my Broncos play the second half of their game against the Rabbitohs.

And then sleeeeeep.

Bay Day

Spent 4 hours in The Bay.

OPSM still haven’t processed my quote for new glasses lenses. She promised to do it at midday today and email the quote to me (this is the third time she’s made this promise) but there is still no email.

I booked an appointment at The Massage House for a foot detox and foot massage next week. I’ve never done a foot detox before!

We bought some more art supplies.

Harley was the recipient of new toys and treats. 2 x balls, a squeaky toy, a tug o war toy and a bag of jerky treats.

We purchased what we hope to be winning lotto tickets.

BGWLBH introduced me to a quaint little coffee shop on Main Street where I discovered lots of goodies made in Australia. Some pineapple and passionfruit jam, caramelised onion relish and a green curry masala.

I took a bracelet with a broken stone to the jewellers hoping that they could repair it. The outcome of that discussion is confusing and since I have no idea what’s going on, I’m going to try Tinkerbell’s to see if they can repair it.

I attempted to return a cord to JBHIFI because it had the wrong connection but they wouldn’t accept it because I had ripped the packaging.

That moment when you realise that you can behave like a frail and sad old lady, gain some sympathy and reap some benefits! I had to purchase the correct cord and paid a little more than half price because the young man felt sorry for me.

Haha!

We shopped at Coles and grabbed a juice from Su Jus.

A quick shop at our local centre before heading home.

It was nice to run into Woman of Many Talents too. It’s been a long time since we caught up.

At home, Harley and I played with the new toys together.

Dinner was spaghetti bolognese.

We watched the first footy match of the round.

Tomorrow I’m lunching with The Motivator. We haven’t seen each other for about 8 months so I’m looking forward to catching up with her.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Retirement Day

It was “Happy Retirement” day for one of the girls today, so I made a butter cake this morning, iced it with passionfruit icing and took it to the Lions Park for all to share as a celebratory gesture.

There were only four of us. Out of the others, one was working away, one was on her way to family in Brisbane, one had visitors and two were not well.

So it was a pleasant hour and we each had two servings of the delicious cake. I still brought the other half home and now there is only one slice remaining!

I grocery shopped on the way home and picked up a parcel from the post office.

Harley received some of my attention - he was quite distraught when he saw me ride off on my trike without him this morning so I had to make it up to him with some quality play time and cuddles.

My art also received some of my attention - still a work in progress.

BGWLBH postponed our day in The Bay until tomorrow.

So now I need to sleep because it’s after 11.30pm.

Cooling Down

It finally feels like Autumn.

We are 2/3 of the way through the season and the temperatures have been Summer-like until the last week. Now it’s lovely sleeping weather and I even felt a little cool while playing with Harley this afternoon.

Our ANZAC day was spent at home doing art and watching all the ANZAC day football matches.

This is what I started today …

So far, so good.

The football was great and my tipping was good for the day.

I cooked duck with vegetables for dinner and I ate my last piece of birthday cake.

Harley has been a good boy.

I need to be up early in the morning to bake a ‘welcome to retirement’ cake before our Lions Park morning tea.

Then we’ll be off to The Bay.

Unlucky For Some

Thirteen years married today.

In June, we’ll have been together 20 years.

Adoring Husband and I drove into The Bay to celebrate over lunch at The Bayswater restaurant on the Esplanade.

We both ordered the Chicken Supreme.

We actually walked into the restaurant around 11.30am and ordered our meals at approximately 11.45am. At midday, it was as if a bus pulled up and the queue to order was at least 12 deep for half an hour or more.

Everybody sat outside on the deck in the gale force winds while AH and I found a protected booth inside which was very comfortable.

The meal was huge and the food was delicious but I could only eat half. My plate was full of chat potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, beans, carrots, zucchini, avocado and chicken wrapped in bacon delicately criss-crossed with hollandaise sauce.

After lunch, we did a decent grocery shop at Stocklands before heading home.

We were gone for a short three hours while BGWLBH took care of Harley. She was exhausted from entertaining him for the entire time we were gone.

I was feeling pretty exhausted myself.

My diet has deteriorated considerably over the last 6 months and I lack energy most days, my joints ache, I always need an afternoon nap and I feel very weak and very old.

I would like to make a conscious effort to improve my diet by removing sugar, reducing carbs, increasing fresh organic fruit and vegetables and drinking more water.

It’s just a matter of finding inspiration and motivation to actually do this. I’ve done it before and I remember how good my mind and my body felt, so that should be motivation in itself.

Small steps.

We’ve had strong winds over the last couple of days gusting up to 47km per hour and they’ll continue tomorrow with some patchy rain. Wind is just annoying.

Tomorrow is ANZAC day so it will be a quiet one for us.

Right now, I need to sleep.

All About Me

Happy Birthday to me.

I must admit that I have not enjoyed today.

Melancholy has been prominent.

Adoring Husband and BGWLBH gave me this beautiful bracelet (which I had put on lay-by a few weeks ago).

BGWLBH created this gorgeous piece of art and had it framed professionally for me …

I received birthday texts from my girls and my sister and a phone call from my son.

I missed four phone calls because, somehow, my stoopid phone had switched to silent mode, which was very annoying.

I got lots of Harley cuddles, which of course, I love.

I cooked breakfast.

I blew out the candles on my cake early so that we could have morning tea.

I watched the football.

I cooked a roast chicken and vegetables for dinner.

I received 41 birthday messages on Facebook.

I felt quite alone/lonely.

Next birthday, I will be the same age as my mother when she passed. That’s freaky.

I simply MUST make the following year much more positive, challenging and interesting. I have been stagnant for long enough!

My mission is to figure out what my next mission will be 👍

But now it’s time to sleep.

Nite all … and happy birthday to me 🥳
