Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Energised

I felt a little bit energised and motivated today!

Very unusual.

I started with the usual hour of play with Harley and then made my breakfast. I did a couple of loads of washing followed by a couple of hours in my art space …

As usual, still a work in progress.

The cricket was starting at 3pm so I took Harley out for another play, chopped a large saucepan full of vegetables for Harley’s future meals and put them on to boil.

Two hours into the cricket I cooked up some duck breast with mashed potato and a veggie mix of carrots, beans, capsicum, onion and tomato lightly fried in oil and garlic. I did a spicy plum sauce for the duck.

After dinner I mixed up, weighed and packed Harley’s meals and also bagged the chicken feet in individual bags for his snacks.

Now I’m in bed watching the cricket.

Adoring Husband spent all morning at work doing manual labour in quite warm conditions, so he’s feeling pretty buggered.

BGWLBH spent an hour in the garden followed by hours doing art in her bedroom.

We had some light rain this afternoon but we sure need a whole lot more than that! Our street is usually full of green manicured lawns and even though the majority of us have bore water, the lawns are very brown and dry.

Now I’m off to watch the last 20 overs of the cricket - Australia vs Bangladesh. Australia are already into the semi finals and will be playing South Africa next Thursday.

Correspondence

The biggest thrill of my day was receiving a letter from Chicklet which included half a dozen small pieces of art that she had created. A couple of wolves, a fox and a couple of anime humans (all amazing). Her letter was three pages long and I savoured every written word.

The last time she wrote, due to many different circumstances, it took me 6 weeks to reply! So today, I sat down and replied immediately.

In the envelope, with my 5 page letter, I added copies of three pieces of art and some skull stickers.

I rode down to the Post Office before 2pm and got it in today’s mail.

From the post office, I rode to the beach where I found a bench seat in the shade and sat for 30 minutes overlooking the miles and miles of sand. The tide was completely out and it was impossible to see the waterline with the naked eye.

I could easily have sat there for a couple of hours but Adoring Husband was waiting for me to return so that he could put the car and trailer away. My trike doesn’t fit past them once they’re in.

I painted the second coat onto my canvas and I may just get started on the body of it tomorrow.

Dinner was the usual Friday night fare.

After dinner we all moved into the lounge room for a rare dose of trivia.

Now I’m feeling very weary so it’s sleep time for me.

Road Trippin’

It wasn’t much of a road trip … just to Maryborough and on to The Bay.

We did a run through Lincraft, followed by a walk through the markets, ducked into King Kong and finally The Gallery art shop.

Shockingly, the water colour paper that BGWLBH usually buys for $40, has now increased to $63! So we need to find a new art shop or find the paper online at a better price.

On the way to The Bay, we stopped at the Australiana Craft Shop to purchase 3 jars of their DELICIOUS home made peanut butter.

In The Bay we got fuel, dog bones and bacon, lotto tickets and groceries then stopped on the way home for our usual fresh egg pick up.

It was quite a tiring day and we were famished by the time we got home so after a quick ten minute play with Harley I cooked a REALLY EARLY dinner of tacos and we sat down to eat at 4.30pm.

It’s 9pm and I’m ready for sleep.

Anticlimax

I was looking forward to this day.

Adoring Husband had work plans that would fill the day and BGWLBH was going into The Bay.

I calculated that I would be alone from approximately 8am - 2pm.

Six hours of blissful solitude.

A rare occurrence in my life.

I cooked bacon and eggs for my house mates to see them out the door with sustenance in their bellies.

My first hour of solitude was spent with Harley playing ‘fetch’.

The remainder of my six hours was spent catching up on all of my reality TV shows - with 4 visits from AH for various reasons and both of my house mates returning home two hours earlier than expected.

I’d be lucky to have had 2 hours to myself.

Adoring Husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas and my reply was “solitude”.

I’d love some time away, a few days, alone, on retreat or just in an apartment or motel in silence. No devices. No TV. No talking. No responsibilities. No duties. No decisions.

One day.

Now I’m off to sleep.

A Touch of Therapy

Meditation - 8am - 9am

Qi Gong - 9.30am - 10.30am

Session with The Gypsy - 10.30am - 1.30pm

That’s 5.5 hours of mindfulness, relaxation, peace, love, light, clarity, epiphanies, support, philosophy, movement, affirmations, cleansing and healing.

Tuesday is a good day.

The weather was gloomy, cool and damp - unusually so.

I’m feeling a touch weary. I woke at 2am and couldn’t get back to sleep until almost 4am so obviously I needed all of today’s therapeutic goodness - now a solid nights sleep will cap the day off perfectly.

Not Much

We are being played (video to watch)

So … instead of finishing this on the paper that I started on…

I’ve decided to not waste my energy on the useless piece of paper, and instead, create the same art on a circle canvas 50cm in diameter…

I’ve painted the first coat of background colour and had to wait for it to dry. I’ll put the second coat on tomorrow after meditation and qi gong.

Other than that, my day was full of nothing.

Adoring Husband drove into The Bay.

I cooked a pasta dish for dinner.

Time to sleep!

Visiting

This afternoon I visited The Motivator to give her her birthday presents.

Her birthday was in July.

Yes I’m a bad friend.

We spent two hours chatting in her outdoor patio area and I enjoyed it very much. She made a small platter with cheeses, olives, crackers, humus and chocolate and we drank iced water.

It was a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I arrived home in time to cook duck breasts with a chilli mandarine sauce, boiled potatoes and carrots, beans, onion, chard and spinach lightly fried in garlic butter.

I only ate the potato and some beans with some of the sauce. It was delicious!

There was a nice shower of rain while we ate, which we needed.

I’m very tired from staying up late (or I should say ‘early morning’) watching the cricket. It was around 3am when I got to sleep. Australia defeated England. Tonight I’m watching India play South Africa, but I certainly won’t be watching it to the end. I’ll have it on the telly in the background as I fall asleep and I’ll have the sleep timer on for 30 minutes.

It’s time to do that right now.
