Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Saturday on my Terms

Someone once asked Bob Marley if he believed in the idea of a perfect woman. His answer was simple—and unforgettable.

“Who cares about perfection?” he said. “Even the moon is full of craters. The sea is stunning, but salty and dark in the deep. The sky stretches forever, but it’s often cloudy.”

In his words, beauty was never about flawlessness. It was about meaning. About what moves you. About what’s real. The moon, the sea, the sky—none of them are perfect. But all of them are undeniably beautiful.

So why chase perfection?

You don’t need to be flawless to be loved. You don’t need to fit a mold to shine. You just need to be yourself—wildly, wonderfully, freely.

Live for what sets your soul on fire. Laugh loudly. Dance awkwardly. Be kind. Be messy. Be authentic.

Because in the end, no one falls in love with “perfect.”

They fall in love with the moonlight in your eyes, the depth of your thoughts, and the warmth of your spirit.

~Unusual Diaries

I turned out my lights at 10.30pm and woke at 4.45am to watch tennis. It was a much needed 6 hours of sleep.

Our girl, Priscilla Hon, lost her match. It was frustrating to watch because she chose the right shot every time, but executed those shots poorly. She had so many chances to break her opponents serve, but missed her opportunities when they counted the most. Let’s hope that more experience will improve her game for the future.

On a happier note, my Djokovic won his match in four sets. He played well.

Tomorrow, De Minaur plays at 6am our time and our girl Dasha (Kasatkina) plays at 3am. It’s nice to still have Aussie players to watch in the third round!

My footy tipping has not been so good this week, but nor has anyone else’s so I’m still 20 points in front.

BGWLBH disappeared into the Bay on her own and Adoring Husband had his coffee date with the boys this morning.

Best get some sleep so that I can wake up for more tennis.

Tennis Fanatic

Galway Girl - Sharon Shannon, Mundy & Galway City

Makes me want to dance!

I was awake for most of the night watching tennis. The last match finished at about 3pm today!

Needless to say, I’m feeling a bit weary tonight!

Harley still got his two plays for the day.

I cooked myself breakfast and dinner.

The rest of the time was tennis mania haha.

I did receive a private message from a person from my distant past.

My parent’s best friends had four daughters. The last time we were all together was 1975. We attended a Skyhooks concert together. During my first 15 yrs of living, we all spent a lot of time together as very close family friends, but after that … nothing.

Until my mother’s funeral when my Aunty (we called them uncle and aunty even though we were not related) caught a bus from Brisbane to Rockhampton to attend.

So today, the second daughter messaged me and we have spent the day back and forth catching up on all the family news and swapping photos.

It’s certainly been a nostalgic trip down memory lane and lovely to touch base after all these years.

Now it’s time to sleep, in preparation for more tennis!

Always Something

For Adoring Husband, there is ALWAYS some kind of medical condition or issue, warranting the world’s attention.

Struggling with either a bad back, neck, shoulder, hip or knee (depending on the day), a bad toe that he has kicked a thousand times on a gate that’s been in the same place for seventeen years, vertigo, sciatica, sleep apnea, night terrors, deafness, speech difficulties, a constant raspy tickling cough, a memory gone walkabout and that’s just to name a few.

So today’s plan for him to drive into The Bay to purchase a box of toilet paper for the shop toilets went by the wayside because his right knee is the current problem, so BGWLBH and I drove in to run his errand, as well as our own.

We left early to have breakfast at a little place on the esplanade. Nothing for me because nobody serves what I can actually eat, but I was a bit naughty and had a cup of black tea.

Office works was on our list, BIG W, Lady’s boutique, butcher, Coles, Su Jus, G D Products, Farm Gate, Newsagent, Seafood place, bakery, craft shop - no wonder I’m so bloody tired!

All of this on the back of minimal sleep due to the tennis.

Lights out at 10.30pm and I fell asleep immediately. I woke at 11.30pm with a full bladder but was too lazy to get out of bed so went back to sleep until it woke me again at 12.30am. Straight back to sleep after a loo visit until 1.30am when I turned on the tennis to watch Djokovic win his round two match which finished at 4.15am.

I set my alarm for 8.10am and fell asleep instantly. I woke without the alarm at 7am.

I got through the day successfully.

Honey Soy chicken with rice for dinner. I had some more chicken broth with poached chicken wings - I’m addicted and I can feel it healing me from within 💖

I also crumbed some prawn cutlets and whiting fillets. I fried a couple of each for a late lunch. The whiting is SO good!

We played trivia for an hour before the football started. I tipped correctly and I’m 20 points in front of second place. Go me!

Now I’m going to sleep because there are lots of Aussies playing tennis tonight and I hope to watch most of them.

Abundant Tennis

Tennis, tennis and more tennis.

The US Open tennis grand slam started on Sunday.

I fell asleep at midnight, woke at 2.47am to pee and turned on the tennis to watch Popyrin play, but fell asleep 30 minutes later. Woke again at 6.30am to watch De Minaur play.

Harley got his play time at 8.45am and I made some bone broth with poached chicken wings to bring back to bed where I could watch more tennis until 3pm.

All the Aussies, except one girl, won their matches and are into round two. My day felt decadently delightful.

For dinner, I made chicken saltimbocca with sweet potato/potato mash and mixed vegetables of capsicum, green beans, carrot sticks, baby spinach and tomato.

I had more chicken broth with wings. So delicious.

Now, I hope to wake at 1.30am to watch Djokovic play his second round match. Wish me luck!

Cool by the River

Hello Number One Son!

I hope you had a nice evening on your boat 🛥️

I received a phone call from No 1 Son tonight, which morphed into a FaceTime call to do a walk through of his new boat.

Very flash! Very big! Very nice!

It was a 45 minute call and I feel like that’s the longest call we’ve ever had 🤔

While I was looking out the window at a pitch black sky here, the sun was still up and on my phone screen,  I could see blue sky in Western Australia.

It was nice to see my son’s face and to chat with him.

Today was meditation day and I actually arrived four minutes early for a change. It was another great class about sitting in our self sovereignty.

After class, The Gypsy and I sat chatting by the river for two hours. The weather forecast was for a warm 24°C but thankfully, I followed BGWLBH’s advice and took a wrap because it was quite chilly!

I was home by 12.30pm and heated up some cauliflower soup for lunch. Stupidly, I toasted a bread roll to have with it. My new eating regime excludes bread and I felt the negative affects of it almost immediately and I felt unwell all afternoon.

Ugh 😩

For dinner, I reheated last night’s fish pie leftovers for the team. I had plain coconut yoghurt, blueberries, raspberries, papaya, 1 grated Brazil nut, 3 grated apricot kernels, almond flakes and a drizzle of pure maple syrup.

That settled my tummy nicely.

Adoring Husband and I watched the oldie but goodie movie “Tequila Sunrise” starring Kurt Russell, Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer.

That was my day.

Productively Unproductive

Today I did zip.

Out of bed at 9am.

Made my warm lemon water.

Played with Harley.

Made my breakfast and soursop tea.

Watched Canadian Pottery Throw Down, hosted by Seth Rogen. It’s a new series so only one episode was available, but the contestants are already so much better than the British series!

I watched “Fun Mom Dinner”, a movie with Toni Collette and Molly Shannon. I quite liked it.

The footy was next. I got two wrong this week, but everybody else got four wrong so I’m still way in front!

I cooked apple chicken with mixed roast vegetables and green beans with snow peas for dinner.

I am now in bed watching “Death Becomes Her”.

An early night seems a good idea (well, earlier than the usual 11pm).
