Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Weekend Already?

The neighbours across the road decided to party until after 2am and played their music loud enough for us all to dance along.

Considering how loudly they complain about barking dogs in the neighbourhood, I’m surprised by their arrogant hypocracy.

Needless to say, it was a very late night for me.

To top it off, Adoring Husband decided to watch the “replay” of the US Open Golf on the TV in the lounge room, which is outside my bedroom and sat in the chair coughing from 6am!

Not happy Jan.

If it wasn’t so cold, I’d have got out of bed and punched him in the throat!

Today, I’ve been running on less than 4 hours of sleep.

I had 4 hours in The Bay and got myself some fresh baked sour dough bread and kangaroo salami from the Torq Deli.

At Go Natural, I found some coconut milk kefir, organic garlic paste, organic chick peas, spinach and feta GF ravioli, beetroot dip and a couple of other things.

I bought 3 sand crabs which I shelled as soon as I got home and made a sandwich with the fresh sourdough - YUM - and some raw prawn cutlets to crumb for tomorrow night’s “fend for yourself” dinner.

New lotto tickets, fresh bread rolls, some groceries and some Su Jus.

A few crazies on the road with plenty driving in front of us and cutting us off from side streets and driveways.

This afternoon, after I took Harley out to play, I climbed onto my bed and pulled my State of Origin blanket over me. It was quite chilly!

I didn’t need any dinner after my crab sanger so I stayed in my room.

The neighbours are quiet and it’s not so cold now.

A good time to sleep.

Bloody Cold

I know it’s not as cold as down south, but 3°C for this neck of the woods is crazy and we actually had a frost this morning!

Adoring Husband was wiping ice off his windscreen with his windscreen wipers and took a while to realise it!

I stayed in bed until almost 10am. The cold actually causes me physical pain … must be my old age.

By 10am it was lovely outside in the sunshine playing with Harley.

I made myself some cauliflower, leek and potato soup. A whole cauliflower (chopped), 2 small potatoes (diced) and a whole leek (sliced), 1 cup of home made chicken broth, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, salt, black pepper, 1 cup full cream (I used zymil lactose free) and 4 cups filtered water (to boil the vegetables).

I boiled all the potato and cauliflower together with a teaspoon of salt until tender. Fried the leek in butter until soft. Tossed everything above together in the blender for a minute until creamy and smooth. Added more salt and pepper to taste.

Absolutely delicious. I had a cup for lunch and put a container in the fridge for tomorrow morning. There are six containers in the freezer.

My butt was parked on the couch for the whole rest of the day watching the remaining episodes of “Fake”. I felt stressed all the way through it, so it was well done, but I don’t like feeling this way.

Adoring Husband played golf and played well so he came home satisfied.

BGWLBH did the ironing and spent time out by the pool in the sun.

Harley was a good boy.

It’s 11.30pm and bloody cold again, so I’m about to snuggle under the covers to get some sleep.

The Middle Day

Still not 100% well, but spent the day in The Bay, suffering later while cooking dinner.

We had planned on driving to Maryborough for the markets tomorrow, but it’s too bloody cold in the mornings.

It was 3.6°C this morning!

Way too hard to get out of bed and I had to put an extra blanket on the bed last night. I have a light coverlet that was more than enough last winter, but I may need to dust off my doona if it stays like this.

It took me a while to cook dinner - honey, soy, sesame chicken with fried rice. It would normally take about 30 minutes, but it took me an hour including the 6 times I had to lay down to rest my painful abdomen.

It actually feels a lot better tonight (10pm)

BGWLBH read out trivia questions while I cooked and just for a change, Adoring Husband actually beat me in most of the rounds. He was very quick tonight.

After dinner, we played some music trivia on YouTube and AH and I then watched two more episodes of “The Survivors”.

The lounge room started to feel cold so instead of firing up the air con, we decided to go to bed.

It’s so nice snuggling under the blankies!

I received a phone call from Number One Son while he was walking to pick up dinner. He sounded very bright and happy.

I also missed a call from the Blonde Bombshell so I’ll call her tomorrow.

Time for me to sleep now.

Becoming Well

On Monday, after a big day in The Bay, my health deteriorated in the afternoon and I struggled to make dinner - which was taking tuna mornay out of the freezer to reheat and making a salad, because that seemed like the easiest option.

As soon as I served dinner, I took myself to bed and had a cozy, warm early night.

I sent a text to The Gypsy to advise that I wouldn’t be in attendance at meditation, so I was able to stay warm in bed at the beginning of my restful, quiet Tuesday. It’s almost 10pm and while I feel a lot better than 24 hrs ago, I still don’t feel 100%.

Tonight I got help from both of my team mates to make nachos for their dinner so it required little effort by me. I was very grateful.

I watched The Wedding Singer today and started to watch the series “The Survivors” which looks interesting.

Now I’m snuggled up in bed watching this weeks episode of “Accused” but I can hear some kind of party happening across the road with loud music and loud talking, so we’ll see how long that lasts. A Tuesday night special.

That’s it from me.

Pleasant Sunday

I woke at 1am and checked the tennis results for the women’s final at Roland Garros. They’d only completed one set, so I turned on the telly to watch the remainder of the match.

It was a good match but Sabalenka played poorly in the last two sets and Coco Gauff won in the end.

Tonight is the men’s final between Sinner and Alcaraz but I need to be up early to go into The Bay so I doubt that I’ll watch it. I’m not a fan of either players so I’m not really invested in the result.

Right now, I’m watching the series “Fake” with Asher Keddie and David Wenham. I didn’t see it the first time it aired so I’m watching it via the app. It’s creeping me out a bit.

Today, Adoring Husband and I watched “The Accountant 2” via Prime Video. It was a good movie.

The afternoon was filled with football and I took a lasagne out of the freezer to reheat for dinner.

Now it’s time to sleep.
