Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Perfectly Wintery

I slept for just about ten hours last night. 11pm-3.30am - pee - 3.45am-9am.

Amazing.

I took Harley out to play for about 30 minutes then made myself presentable for public display and hopped on my trike for a long ride.

It was busy at the boat ramp, at the Lions park and at the beach.

I did a little grocery shopping before returning home.

There were a lot of families, a lot (6) of e-trikes being ridden by ‘over 50s’, a lot of barbecues and picnics taking place, a lot of fishing and a lot tables full of people catching up over coffee.

I noticed that my old shop was empty! It has freshly painted walls and fresh carpet put in by the previous occupiers, so it looks fresh and new. I’d like to find out what the rent is like now. Maybe there’s an opening there for me!

I stopped during my ride home and enjoyed the river view for a while before moving on. As you can see, it was a perfectly glorious day. A soft breeze, blue skies, sun shining, birds singing, people smiling, fish biting … a perfect Winters day.

It was after midday when I arrived home and after 90 minutes on the trike, I was ready for a nap haha. I forget that I’m 66yrs old and cannot be as active as I once was without consequences. Perhaps if I did it every day, my body would adapt and it would be easier! I might try that.

I had planned on doing some patch working on my jeans today, but I put that aside (I did purchase some sewing paraphernalia today, like pins, unpicker, tape measure, white pencil, thimble etc) and instead I watched an interview on YouTube Diary of a CEO with Dr Rhonda Patrick.

She knows everything there is to know about supplements, ketogenic state, high intensity exercise, dietary medications like Ozempic, insulin resistance, cognitive function, lifespan, health-span and peak span and so much more.

The interview lasted for 2.5 hours and she was incredibly knowledgeable, articulate and passionate about ways to live a long life free of diseases and conditions that hinder quality of life.

She spends a lot of time either doing her own research or studying the research of others so she had amazing facts and figures to support her findings.

If you get the chance to look him up YouTube - Diary of a CEO (Steven Bartlett). He interviews the most interesting people regarding

  • mental health
  • the human conditions
  • physical health
  • AI
  • Finances
  • Medicine
  • Medical Training
  • Cancer
  • Body language
  • Proof of aliens
  • Social media
  • Hormone therapy
  • Christianity/Spirituality
  • Sex
  • Dreams
  • Sleep
  • Power
… and so much more! Every interview is an education in itself and I can’t get enough!

I ended up staying in bed all day watching the interview, the football and half a YouTube movie which I’ll finish watching shortly.

Adoring husband heated up one of the delicious bakery pies for my dinner.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Friday Fun

A day in the Bay.

We started at Arkarra Tea Gardens for breakfast.

BGWLBH had bacon and eggs with a pot of English Breakfast tea.

I had a pot of Peppermint tea.

Breakfast was shared with a friendly magpie.

I was dropped off at Office Works to purchase some fabric glue while BGWLBH drove to her workplace to correct an error that she’d made the day before.

Having extra time in the store led me to buy two journals, some paper flowers and some letter stencils. What should have been a $28 purchase ended up being $103! Self control where are you?

It took us a while to find a car space at Pialba Square. I’m not sure that I’ve seen it that busy before and there was nothing unusual going on in the area.

We strolled through the ladies boutique, but found nothing we liked. The local art and craft store had nothing new on display. We did a run through BigW and left there empty handed.

In Choice, I found a lovely rose gold frame to mount the beautiful poem that The Gypsy wrote for me when I helped her after the surgery …

It’s a beautiful poem from the heart and I was very touched by such a gesture.

I also found some bamboo cotton buds and a few other bits and pieces. A quick visit to the chemist for BGWLBH while she ordered the juices.

The traffic was crazy when we left and a lot of drivers were taking stupid chances causing us a lot of stress! With various road closures due to installation of traffic lights and other nonsense, the traffic on smaller streets is chaotic and drivers are impatient.

We also left at school pickup time so that didn’t help and we drove through two different school zones. There are roadworks on our way home with red light wait times, so the drove home just seemed to go on forever.

I got changed and took Harley out to play while BGWLBH made herself some Bruschetta for her dinner.

I made honey king prawns with eggy rice for myself.

It was delicious!

Adoring Husband made chicken Tom Yum Goong soup with sourdough toast. No photo.

Two games of football tonight and my tips are better tonight than last night!

It’s almost 10pm and I’m feeling pretty weary so it’s time to curl up under the covers.

Short Solitary Day

Four hours of solitude.

BGWLBH left for work at 8am

I woke up at 9.30am!! That means I slept for almost ten hours!

Adoring Husband left for golf at 10.30am.

I had a 2 hour zoom meeting with The Gypsy at 10.35am.

At 12.30pm I sat down with my lunch of toasted sourdough with homegrown tomato on one piece and turkey breast on the other. I watched a Netflix movie and then an in interview on Diary of a CEO with a gut health doctor on YouTube.

BGWLBH arrived home at 2pm.

Easy tacos for dinner.

The day passed quickly.

This morning, I decided to delete the time wasting apps from my devices. The World Series of Poker Texas Hold’em, Solitaire and Mahjong.

I’ve wasted too many hours on those games - especially first thing in the morning and last thing at night - the worst times of the day for hurting my circadian rhythm and my all round health.

Time for a new morning and evening routine.

With that, I’m signing off and shutting down my devices for the evening.

Up and Improving

After dozing on and off all day yesterday, I slept poorly last night.

At 2am I was watching the movie “Some Kind of Wonderful” which was great because I LOVE that movie!

I had set my alarm for 7.30am because I didn’t want to sleep half the day away and spoil my chances of sleeping properly tonight.

A shower woke me up and I felt much refreshed.

Yesterday’s illness was gone and I was feeling better, so when BGWLBH invited me into the Bay, I accepted with a positive attitude.

I forgot to make a list so I forgot a few things that I needed to get, like ear buds, material patches and fabric glue.

I’ll look online.

Tonight I made honey/soy chicken with eggy rice for BGWLBH. Chicken, vegetable and noodle soup with Tom Yum Goong base for Adoring Husband.

I stole a tiny bit of both for my dinner because my only sustenance for the day was a green juice this afternoon.

When I purchased the juice, I grabbed two GF white chocolate and macadamia cookies, which I scoffed for dessert! Both of them!

Today, Bubbles and Knight in Shining Armour celebrated 20 years together! In this day and age, that’s a pretty good milestone. Congratulations to you both.

Now I’m watching The Traitors from my bed.

It’s been a decent day.

Ack Ugh and Blah

I slept well again last night. Seven solid hours.

When I left for meditation this morning, I was feeling fine, but within ten minutes of sitting down in class, I began to feel very woozy and lethargic.

I did not engage during the class and surprisingly, it was noticed by everyone!

I received lots of hugs at the end of the class and The Gypsy and I decided to not catch up after class because she had hurt her neck and also wasn’t feeling the best.

I rode directly home and went directly to bed.

While watching YouTube videos of ‘Diary of a CEO’ and ‘Mayim Bialik’ I dozed on and off. I drank lots of filtered water, changed into my pyjamas and remained in bed all day.

Adoring Husband served my lunch in bed and then a bowl of fresh crab meat for dinner.

He even cooked dinner for himself and BGWLBH so that I didn’t have to get out of bed.

Tonight I’m still not feeling 100% but I am much improved.

Now I will sleep.

More Days of Nothing

Nothing has happened in the last two days.

Most of Sunday was spent in bed.

I started to watch YouTube videos on vintage patchworking denim jeans and then I got distracted and sat in the lounge chair in my art room for over an hour until the football started.

That’s when I retreated to my room for the remainder of the day.

I only ate 2 pieces of toast all day, with my market bought lime butter and mulberry jam.

I received a phone call from Number One Son and we chatted for an hour.

I had slept for a solid 8 hours on Saturday night and then again on Sunday night. Surprisingly I know!

On Monday, I crumbed and cooked all the whiting fillets that I’d bought on Saturday, as well as 8 prawn cutlets, then shared them with Adoring Husband for lunch.

We watched a few YouTube videos on golfing until my quiz shows came on.

I rested for an hour before cooking crumbed chicken (that’s a lot of crumb in one day!) with wombok salad and garden salad for dinner. I only had a pear, which was delicious.

I did a rough sketch of how I’ll patch my old jeans …

Now I’m ready to curl up and fall asleep before 11pm because I have meditation early tomorrow morning.
