Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Tyre Kickers

The majority of my customers today were tyre kickers.

This wasn’t really a problem because I received two deliveries - one was a box full of coat hangers and the other a box full of clothes.

The steamer got a workout but I’ve still not finished steaming everything. There is not enough room in the shop to hang everything so I’m not certain what I’ll do. This requires some deep thinking.

Adoring Husband was kind enough to help me clear the training room of all the boxes and the half pallet from my multiple stock deliveries this week and then helped me set up the room ready for Saturday’s art class.

I had a lovely visit from The Brains Trust!

Apparently there is both a 60th birthday this weekend AND a 60th wedding anniversary because I had customers looking for gift ideas.

The weather was perfect and there were plenty of people out and about but none of them were in a spending mood so sales did not reach my minimum happy number.

My desk is a disaster area and if it’s not busy tomorrow, I think I’ll need to prioritise cleaning it. Messy desk, messy mind … can’t have that!

AH had to make a trip into The Bay and on the way home, he stopped at Craignish to buy some fresh prawns as a surprise for me. Yummy! I had some for a snack this afternoon and there are some left for tomorrow’s lunch. He’s a honey.

I think I’m ready to sleep now. I have a dinner date tomorrow straight after art, so I need to be well rested and well organised!

Nite all.

All Worn Out

It has been a big day!

I’m kind of grateful that there was no meditation this morning. The early start might have done me in by the end of the day.

My delivery today was a half pallet load of stock tightly wrapped in black plastic.

It took me ten minutes with a Stanley knife to get the plastic off! Then I needed to sit down for ten minutes! It was like wrestling a seal!

The stock inside was worth the wrestle …

That beautiful white planter pot already has a place in my home!

There were also 72 owls that need tiny price stickers, along with 36 fridge magnets. That’s a slow and painful process that is not yet completed.

Sales were great so my pricing was interrupted often. Hopefully I can be finished tomorrow before the next lot of stock arrives.

Adoring Husband spent the day waiting for our new pool guy who thankfully passed the AH test and will be on the job monthly.

AH then had to pick up up the FROG box so it was well after 2pm when we locked up and left.

My body was complaining about the constant movement that I demanded of it all day long BUT the crisper drawers of the fridge required cleaning before we put the fresh fruit and vegetables in them so by the time I got changed and did all the little chores, I didn’t get to sit down for another hour.

I cooked duck breast for AH and barramundi for me with delicious salad for dinner.

We watched The Bachelor and then dragged our sorry butts off the chair and into bed.

Tomorrow is going to be another big day!

So … nite all.

Kicked It

I’ve just gotta tell you this story about Adoring Husband.

We have a small step between the outdoor kitchen and the Bali hut in our pool area. It’s about 5cms high.

When the pool was first completed, AH kicked his toe on this step about 30 times …

So we put a big thick yellow strip along the top of the step to make it stand out enough that he would no longer kick it.

Unfortunately, he kicked his toe another 20 odd times before his brain finally caught on.

Today, 2.5 years later, he removed the yellow tape so that he could clean the concrete. Two minutes later, he walked out of the kitchen and BAM!! He kicked his toe on that step!

It is damaged and raw and ugly - be grateful that I don’t have a photo - but by the time he came to the shop, he could see the funny side so he was laughing when he told the story.

I swear that man is going to be the death of me 😳

I had a busy day in the shop starting with morning coffee with the girls. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with them because pesky customers were in early but sales were good today.

A delivery arrived late morning but I was too busy to get it all unpacked, priced and displayed so that job rolls over to tomorrow. The trouble is that I have three other deliveries arriving this week so I think I’m going to be one busy bee!

Journaling class was very productive this afternoon and I added another three foolscap pages to the thirteen I did on Sunday.

One of the questions in journaling asks how my parents met and I didn’t know the answer so I messaged one of my aunties. She wasn’t sure so she promised to get back to me.

She phoned another of my aunties who then phoned me and left a voicemail saying she knew how they met and could I call her.

Well it took me two days to get back to her and I almost missed my chance because she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance the evening of the day she left the message! Thankfully she recovered and lived to give me the answers to all of my questions.

She will be 80 yrs old next year so I need to get as much information as I can from her. She and Uncle K (Dad’s brother) we’re the closest to Mum and Dad and Uncle K died six years ago so my living knowledge base is thinning out at a rapid rate!

The reason that I don’t call family is because they are ALL big talkers - especially the aunties - and tonight was a perfect example. Over 90 minutes on the phone! The last ten minutes were filled with her telling me how grateful she was that I called, how happy she was to hear my voice and how wonderful it was to hear from me.

It was a good call but those of you who know me, know how I hate talking on the phone 😳

She called just as I was serving dinner so I ate at the kitchen bench with the phone on speaker. Salmon steak with salad and home made coleslaw. Yum.

AH and I watched The Voice before coming to bed.

At least I don’t have to be up early for meditation tomorrow. It’s cancelled this week.

It’s after 11pm so it’s time to sleep.

Nite all.

Out Of It

I stumbled across this on Facebook today … and loved it.

Powerful and profound...

Do you love Me? Alice asked.

- No, I don't love you! replied the White Rabbit.

Alice frowned and clasped her hands together as she did whenever she felt hurt.

- See? replied the White Rabbit.

Now you're going to start asking yourself what makes you so imperfect and what did you do wrong so that I can't love you at least a little.

You know, that's why I can't love you. You will not always be loved Alice, there will be days when others will be tired and bored with life, will have their heads in the clouds, and will hurt you.

Because people are like that, they somehow always end up hurting each other's feelings, whether through carelessness, misunderstanding, or conflicts with themselves.

If you don't love yourself, at least a little, if you don't create an armor of self-love and happiness around your heart, the feeble annoyances caused by others will become lethal and will destroy you.

The first time I saw you I made a pact with myself: "I will avoid loving you until you learn to love yourself."

*****************************************************************

We decided to drive early into The Bay and have breakfast at Aquavue before starting our busy day, so we left home at 8.30am.

As we reached Craignish, I realised that I’d left the artwork behind that I was supposed to bring in to be framed. This is a favour for an elderly woman who has recently moved into the caravan park, so I couldn’t leave it for another day.

Adoring Husband chucked a U-turn and we returned home. I grabbed the tube containing the art and then I realised that I’d left the money at home too! So I grabbed that too 😳

Off we went.

We drove past the Craignish Country Club twice and saw nothing unusual or out of the ordinary.

At Aquavue, I ordered GF Canadian Pancakes and a pot of tea.

They brought me the Mixed Berries Pancakes!

Apparently they weren’t very happy when AH asked them to fix it. They fixed it but I must say that I was concerned about what they may have done to the meal as payback 😳

Breakfast was delicious!

After breakfast I walked across the road to Go Girl where I purchased … nothing.

I decided to check out Rolf Light’s Post Office which was a couple doors up and MY GOODNESS it’s a little treasure trove of goodies! So much more than a Post Office! Once again, I purchased nothing.

Next we went to ‘Out of the Square’ to get a quote for framing the artwork. The cheapest quote was almost double what the lady wanted to pay but I left it there and will discuss it further with her.

Grocery shopping was next on the itinerary so we drove to Stocklands with our small list.

I checked out the shoe shop where I purchased … nothing.

I checked my Powerball ticket and won … nothing.

I walked to Spotlight while AH took the groceries to the car and drove it down to meet me. I purchased 21 canvases and some paints which were all 30% off.

On the way home we stopped at Craignish to get some fresh prawns, sand crab and salmon.

Next, we drove past Craignish Country Club where the police were cordoning off the area with crime scene tape. AH and I discussed the possibilities of what it might be about and a quick Google search showed that a male had been found dead on the premises!

It was revealed much later in the day that it was the owner, which is shocking, but they still don’t know if there are suspicious circumstances so more news will come.

At home, I prepared AH’s late lunch, then removed the crab meat and peeled some prawns for my lunch.

At 4pm I could barely keep my eyes open so I lay down for a quick nap … which lasted two hours!

No dinner for me but AH had last night’s leftovers.

The Voice was entertaining tonight and now I’m in bed feeling very awake! Stoopid naps!

Nite all.

Happy Sigh

I’ve spent a glorious day in bed writing.

I answered, with reasonable detail, 80 questions from the life journal lists.

These questions were about Mum, Dad, my siblings and me.

There are 650 questions in total, to cover every aspect of my life, so in the end all my secrets will be revealed!

Some questions trigger intense emotions and some responses are cathartic. It’s a great opportunity to release old ‘stuff’, forgive friends and family and find gratitude where you least expect it.

I got out of bed after 5.30pm to make dinner, which was a creamy garlic chicken and mushroom dish full of rich flavour.

Adoring Husband and I watched The Voice together and it was back to bed for me.

I finished with a perfect round in the footy tipping comp and because I picked it as my joker round, I got 36 points added to my score. Because I was so far behind, it has only taken me to fourth place so it’s nothing to get excited about. It was an easy round and lots of people picked it.

We have a big day planned in The Bay tomorrow, starting with breakfast, so it’s time to sleep.

Nite all.
