Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Another Day

Harley Barley woke me a bit too early this morning, so I took him outside to do his business and then brought him back to bed for an extra 40 minutes.

I made bacon and eggs for everybody and took Harley to the pool area to play fetch and swim for about an hour.

Then it was my turn to play. BGWLBH and I spent quite some time in the art space today.

I can’t finish my dragonfly because I’ve run out of a couple of the paints that I need, so I started another painting. See if you can figure out what it is …

If it turns out as I hope it will, it’ll be a gift for my son in law who is a connoisseur of skulls. If it doesn’t turn out as I hope, then I’ll just paint over it!

I watched the movie “Mean Girls” and it reminded me of some people I know.

We watched three of the preseason NRL games. Go Broncos!

I made a chicken dish for dinner with a sauce made of cream, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, thyme and chilli. It was delicious.

Harley spent the hours between 4pm - 8pm being totally hyperactive in the back yard!

Adoring Husband discovered that his work lawn mower is broken 😠

BGWLBH did some amazing art which I can’t share til I get her permission.

Now it’s time to sleep. Looking forward to doing more art tomorrow.

Lethargy

TGA non-disclosing

Same as all the other days.

I did a little more to the dragonfly …

Played with Harley.

I was feeling pretty lethargic for most of the day. Probably due to the criss cross of chemtrails in the sky for the last couple of days.

I lay on the couch and caught up with the Australian Idol episodes that I recorded, fast forwarding through the ads.

They’ve been testing the rain water on the Sunshine Coast (specifically Caloundra, Maleny and Noosa) and finding it unnaturally acidic. I think I have some ph testing strips somewhere so I’ll test our rain water after the next downpour.

There is a house being built diagonally opposite us and they started work at 6am today! Not happy Jan. I’d had a restless night having to get up three times, one of those to take Harley out, so I didn’t appreciate the loud and early interruption to my sleep.

Adoring Husband drove into The Bay to get the results of the ultrasound on his foot. There is nothing obviously sinister there. A ‘possible’ ganglion cyst on a joint in the foot and minuscule damage to a tendon that should heal itself but ‘may’ require surgery down the track. He also needs physio to hopefully improve some nerve damage (he has numbness in his foot).

Nothing else to see here. It’s 9pm and I will now sleep.

More Artifying

After breakfast and after giving Harley 30 minutes playing time, I joined BGWLBH in the art space and started on this …

It was very therapeutic but there is still a long way to go. It will be finished off with gold leaf too, which will be an interesting exercise because I’ve never applied gold leaf before. Watch this space.

Chicklet received her birthday gifts today and seems to have enjoyed them.

Tonight I cooked mango chilli chicken with fresh mango and served it with potato patties that I made with last nights leftover mash, fresh beans and carrot.

I did some toad hunting tonight after I found one very large specimen sitting in Harley’s outside water bowl! I almost stood on one when I opened the art space sliding door too. They are big buggers! They freak me out.

We played some trivia before watching Australian Task Master.

It will soon be midnight so I should sleep.

Glorious Food

It’s been a pretty full day.

Coffee at the park was canned again, which was fortuitous for me because I had a lot to do in preparation for Best Cousin in the World’s visit.

The plumber was supposed to arrive at 10am to unblock our kitchen sink and I had a lot of food preparation planned so I started early.

I made 16 devilled eggs before going to the supermarket to purchase all the goodies for grazing platters and some chicken wings from the butcher.

BGWLBH left for a day in The Bay with the intention of giving us time alone with our visitors.

It was 9.30am so I gathered all the food and some utensils and chopping boards and took it all out to the pool kitchen to prepare the platters.

I wish I’d taken photos because there was a lot of food.

I cooked the chicken wings. Some with honey and some without.

I made avocado dip, celery/carrot/cucumber sticks to put with sun dried tomatoes, pickled artichoke, pickled onions, salami, cabanossi, prosciutto, 3 x cheeses, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, rockmelon, watermelon, kiwi fruit, plums, hommus, chicken wings, deviled eggs, rice crisps, corn crisps and Sakata crackers.

The plumber arrived almost two hours late and BCITW arrived about 15 minutes later so we adjourned to the pool area so that the plumbers could do their job without disturbing us.

When Harley saw BCITW he was beside himself with happiness! His tail almost wagged right off his butt and it took him a good 10 minutes to calm down. He definitely remembered her and it was quite a heart warming reunion.

Our visitors stayed for a brief two and a half hours and it was great to catch up with them because we don’t see each other often enough.

We cleaned up after they left and BGWLBH arrived home 45 minutes later.

I cooked bangers and mash for dinner.

I had lots of play time with Harley today and he’s exhausted … as am I.

We have a pineapple growing (finally) in one of our pots …

That’s exciting!

Now it’s time to sleep.

Stormy Weather

It was a weird kind of day.

Harley woke me at 5.45am and we cuddled on the couch for half an hour.

There was an early storm and we received a good downpour of rain

I made myself some tea and toast for breakfast and soon Adoring Husband left for The Bay to have an ultrasound on his damaged foot.

While he was gone, I wrapped all of Chicklet’s birthday gifts in plain brown paper and wrote on each one explaining why I had chosen it. I had to write on two cards because Harley chewed the good Harry Potter card … it was still usable but obviously well chewed!

As soon as AH returned home, we drove to the Post Office to send the parcel Express Post. $56!! Crikey!

Chicklet is worth it.

I took Harley out to play fetch and after about five throws of the ball he wanted to go for a swim - I knew this because he did not return the ball to me - instead he took it to the pool gate and dropped it there, then looked at me as if to say “Come on! I’m hot and it’s time to cool down in the pool!”

So he swam and we played more fetch until I knew he was worn out.

It was time for me to gather some old shop stock to make up a hamper for Best Cousin in the World to raffle off to raise money for breast cancer research. I put together more than $800 in value …

I think she will find a nicer basket than this one.

I finished my octopus art but I’m not at all happy with it. I wish I hadn’t listened to advice and left it as it was.

Harley wanted to play some more …

But there were storms all about. Lots of thunder, lightning and rain but he wasn’t bothered by any of it. I did discover, however, that he doesn’t like to pee in the rain! Instead he pees on the mat inside the back door! Ugh!

I made dinner for AH and BGWLBH but didn’t partake myself.

While we were all in the lounge room tonight, Harley decided to chew AH’s computer cord in half, so AH then spent the evening researching to find a new cord to order online.

Hard lesson learned.

We’ve had storms all night with some good rain. There are still more heading this way so it might be an interesting night.

Best Cousin in the World is visiting tomorrow. The plumber will be here in the morning to unblock the pipes leading to our kitchen sink. It’s supposed to be coffee morning with the art girls but the rain might spoil that idea. We’ll see.

Time to sleep now.

Meditation Rules

I started my day with 30 minutes of big cuddles on the couch with Harley.

What a lovely start.

I was picked up at 8.20am by GSH and we drove to see The Gypsy in Dallarnil, embrace a meditation class with her and then enjoy a morning tea that extended way past lunch. I looked at my watch and was shocked to see it was after 1pm!!

It was about 2.25pm when I arrived home.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day and feel refreshed, renewed and revived. I wish I could do it on a weekly basis.

I rested for an hour before playing with Harley for an hour, then heated up leftovers and made a salad for dinner.

I FaceTimed Chicklet for her 12th birthday. She has grown up so much! I talked to cute little Hazie very briefly and to Mr Perfect - then they were off for birthday pizza and to binge Stranger Things.

MAFS was on tonight and now I’m in bed and Harley is sound asleep.

I am also very tired.

Almost Done

I got my art on today.

It’s not quite finished but I put it in a frame to see how it fit and how it looked. Quite happy so far.

I cooked bacon and eggs for breakfast and Sunday roast was chicken.

I did some washing.

I played with Harley.

I watched some preseason footy.

I played trivia.

I watched MAFS.

I’m now very tired and have a big day planned in Dallarnil.
