Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

All Over Red Rover

Number One Son and Dr El left just after 10am today.

These are the beautiful flowers that I received from them on Wednesday …

And this is the pendant that Number One Son gifted me from Tinkerbell’s.

No 1 Son shouted us lunch at The Bayswater restaurant on Friday and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, although I couldn’t eat all of mine. We all (except BGWLBH) shared 18 oysters which were delicious.

The service was super friendly and they were very accommodating with all of our dietary requirements.

It was a really great day and we oldies were absolutely exhausted at the end of it. We were in bed by 6.30pm!

However, No 1 Son and Dr El had other ideas and decided to have their own private party til stupid o’clock! I wasn’t bothered because my bedroom is at the other end of the house, but they did a good job keeping Adoring Husband and BGWLBH awake.

I was awake at 3am to watch Djokovic play Sinner in the French Open Semifinal. He lost, but put up a good fight.

Despite their inappropriate party, it was so lovely to have them here and especially to see No 1 Son after 7 long years. We’ve agreed that we will not leave it that long til the next visit.

Short and sweet, but very much worth it and meeting Dr El was icing on the cake. She is a delight.

Needless to say, it was a very lazy day for us oldies today. I lay on the couch for most of it and watched a Netflix movie called “Paycheck” which was intense but enjoyable. The second movie was a light and fluffy one called “Dolce Villa”. I had a short nap in the middle of that one but it was pretty good too.

My footy tipping has gone to hell in a hand basket! I’ve only correctly picked one game out of four so far and I’ve slipped to second last.

Devo!

Anyway, I need to sleep now.

Bloody Knights

EVERYONE in our tipping comp picked Manly over Newcastle, so it won’t make a difference to the leader board, but bloody Newcastle scored a try in extra time and won!

Ugh 😩

It’s been a quiet, but nice day.

Adoring Husband went golfing and BGWLBH drove into The Bay, which left Number One Son, Dr El and I at home.

We sat under the Bali hut in the morning sun, started to watch a movie, but my two visitors fell asleep after ten minutes so they went back to bed until mid afternoon. They visited the bottle shop while BGWLBH and I prepared some salads - potato salad, coleslaw, beetroot salad and garden salad.

AH cooked, steak, lamb chops, pork and beef sausages on the barbecue and we feasted at about 5.30pm.

Afterwards we played trivia for about an hour.

I was left alone to watch the disappointing game of football.

I have been awake since 6am and watched the Djokovic vs Sverev score on the French Open website, so I’m feeling quite weary now.

It was only 8°C this morning so it was also difficult for me to get out of bed.

We all have a lunch date in The Bay tomorrow, so I need to sleep now.

He Made It!

Number One Son has arrived!

With his friend!

Who is now his fiancé!

I was presented with a beautiful box of fresh flowers, which I will take a pic of tomorrow and we shared two bottles of champagne to celebrate.

Quite the surprise 😮

Today was my first meeting with Dr El, and I like her very much. She is sweet and engaging, very easy to talk with and obviously cares deeply about Number One Son. I hope that their happiness is long lasting.

We spent the afternoon catching up and learning about each other, a small spot of trivia, time out by the pool and an early dinner of home made hamburgers.

Dr El was kept awake most of last night by No1 Son’s snoring, and then had to drive 4 hours from Brisvegas to here, so she was ready for an early night.

They will be here until Saturday. Short but hopefully sweet.

It’s quite chilly right now and it’s going to drop to 9°C overnight.

I hope that my guests will be warm enough.

Now, I am weary and need to sleep.

So Memorable

Yesterday (Monday) was so memorable, I’ve forgotten everything that I did!

Oh! I did the 52Frames photo, which was very last minute and a one off. Usually I have a few ideas and I try them all before choosing one.

There just wasn’t time to play around so I had an idea that I ran with and submitted it with just one hour to spare.

The theme was “Through the Looking Glass” with the extra challenge of ‘refraction’. I was lucky to capture the refraction of the paint brush in the water, but also light from the sliding door refracted through the water and onto the art.

I love the colours.

After that, I did some writing, some dozing, some YouTube meditation, my quiz shows, Harley play and then reheated some lasagne for dinner.

Today, I started at meditation and drove into town to stock up on food for Number One Son’s visit.

Dinner was chicken saltimbocca with mash and fresh green beans and carrot.

Farmer Wants a Wife, Doc, Accused and during the ad breaks switching to tennis.

I’m feeling quite weary now so it’s time to sleep.

Crazy Time

So, in preparation for the arrival of Number One Son and his friend, it was a madhouse here today.

Adoring Husband was in charge of clearing the back bedroom, which has basically been a storage room for about two years. A big job.

BGWLBH was in charge of vacuuming, mopping and cleaning the bathroom and toilet.

I was in charge of cooking. I prepared three average sized lasagnes, five small tuna mornays, a zucchini slice and banana bread. A four hour event.

I especially didn’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen for their first couple of days/nights here, because time with No1 Son is precious and short, so I wanted to be covered.

Unfortunately, mid afternoon I received a phone call telling me that they had missed their flight from Perth. His friend had been taken to hospital in an ambulance due to a fall which resulted in a head injury.

This means that the friend will no longer be travelling here and Number One Son will be here later than planned. I hope.

I still finished all the cooking and popped most of it in the freezer.

We continue to plan a few activities to make the trip a little more eventful for him and being the arty farty human that he is, he will hopefully enjoy spending time in my Artspace with us.

I got to watch most of the football. Disappointing tipping and I have now slipped to 4th position! I still have my joker round in my pocket so in real time, I’m more likely in 2nd place. Now I am bothered haha.

Tennis has also been disappointing tonight with the Aussie, Popyrin, losing in straight sets.

It’s nice to be snuggled under the covers now and I will get a good night’s sleep if the across the road neighbours allow it, because they have been very active this evening.
