Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

AM Productivity

Productive in the morning.

Out of bed by 8am, made my tea and played with Harley for an hour. He gave up before me this time!

Straight to the kitchen where I spent 3 hours making three lasagnes. One for Sunday night and the others for the freezer.

Also in that 3 hours, I prepared 10 Harley meals chopping up and boiling carrot, sweet potato, pumpkin, green beans, celery, broccoli which I added to 3kgs of premium beef mince, 2 raw eggs, some 'best mate' powdered goodness and some rosehip vital for healthy joints. I just remembered that I forgot the hemp oil ... bugga.

The last thing I did in that 3 hours was make a butter cake and iced it with lemon icing. Afterwards, I discovered one of our purple passionfruit on the ground in the pool area so I sprinkled the flesh of that over the icing.

I made myself a late-ish lunch with a sarsaparilla spider on the side.

That was all done, just in time to sit down and watch Super Saturday football!

I tipped two out of the three games correctly. Sadly, my beloved Broncos were soundly beaten by Canberra Raiders.

It was 'fend for yourself' dinner. I had made myself a toasted ham, cheese and tomato sandwich at 1pm and I was still satisfied from that, so I made a cup of 'digestive ease' leaf tea and ate a small piece of the cake.

It feels very late and I'm quite tired, so it's time to sleep.

TGIF Again

I've been researching accommodation for my solo trip which I hope to take in the first week of May before Adoring Husband goes on his solo trip - he has an appointment with his professor 8th May so he will take a few days after that to visit his grandkids on the Gold Coast.

I'd like to try somewhere different.

So far, I've stayed:

A beautiful big apartment right on the water and above the Mooloolaba shopping precinct but the price for that one is quite a bit higher than I'm willing to pay.

A beautiful big apartment with huge glass frontage overlooking the beach but the staff were rude and unwelcoming and the bed was horrendous and I got no sleep.

A nice apartment but the underground carpark was difficult to navigate AND it was on a main road so it was difficult to exit and enter.

A nice big apartment with a balcony overlooking the water and close to the main shopping area but the bed was horrendous and I hardly slept.

A three bedroom apartment with all the rooms very small. Uncomfortable lounge, sliding doors to the balcony would not lock, impossible to get the TV working with two remotes and incorrect instructions on how to operate, a small balcony with views of both the beach and a slummy empty block full of garbage. Very comfortable bed.

I've discovered that the cost of the accommodation is not an indicator of the quality of the accommodation but reviews are very important!

Anyway I haven't selected anywhere yet and I've noticed that the prices reduce as we get closer to my dates of arrival, so I'll hold off for a little while.

Today, I had to decline BGWLBH's offer of a day out because I had a play date with The Gypsy.

She is dog sitting a beautiful little long haired dachshund named Marshall. I'm not usually a fan of sausage dogs, but he won me over immediately and I could easily have brought him home. What a little sweetie.

She picked me up at 11am and we checked our watches at what we thought was 2pm, only to discover that it was 4pm!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again ... time absolutely flies when we are together and we never run out of conversation. So much to talk about and so little time!

I walked home at 4pm and got to play with Harley before making up the mixture for our chicken wings.

We played Sequence and then made ourselves comfortable for the footy. Two games ... two upsets!

This morning before I was picked up, I caught up on my lessons for the Embodied IChing course that I'm doing, so I was a little productive.

Now it's time to sleep.

Checking Damage

So we drove into The Bay this morning.

It is a hive of activity.

Main Street and Torquay Road have chairs and cupboards and doors and boxes and tables and damaged stock lining the footpaths as shops attempt to clean up the mess caused by Sunday's flood event.

In some places you can clearly see where the flood line was, but in others, you would never know that anything happened at all.

There are many shops that won't be able to reopen for at least another week, maybe even longer.

We checked out the RSL Club. Their ground floor has been stripped bare and pressure cleaned, the escalator is not working, their lift is not working but they have a service lift that they can use for customers who cannot walk up stairs.

There will be no bingo for a week or two, the sports bar is closed and reception has been moved upstairs.

The staff who welcomed people at the entrance were very jovial and friendly, sometimes escorting the elderly up the stairs or offering them the service lift.

There was security everywhere.

There was even a mobile police unit in the carpark.

Anyway, I purchased myself a new top today and we were very pleased to see our favourite newsagent escaped water damage ... I'm not sure how ... but hopefully I now have a lucky lotto ticket!

I decided to buy roast chicken, roast pork, potato bake, fried rice, greek salad and pear & rocket salad for dinner. It was so nice to not have to cook after such a big day.

Adoring Husband played golf today, but apparently not very well. He came last, which means that he wins a free beer ... so he's not complaining haha.

BGWLBH bought orange cake from Su Jus so we even had dessert. It was delicious.

Now it's time to sleep. I have a play date with The Gypsy tomorrow morning.

Active Brain

While we were away, I missed two lessons of my "Embodied IChing" course and I blame the rain and distraction of Hervey Bay flooding for missing the third lesson on Monday.

These lessons are live ZOOM lessons every Monday and Thursday evening at 6pm, which they record, so that people like me can catch up when we can.

Today was one of those catch up days.

IChing is health and energy healing and involves Qi Gong, Nei Gong, Wei Gong, Yin and Yang, Divination and the 7 Chakras.

It also teaches gentle movements and stretches for each Chakra under the energies of Lake, Thunder, Fire, Water, Mountain, Earth, Heaven and Wind.

There is a lot involved but instead of learning intellectually, it should be absorbed instinctively and intuitively.

It's a LOT but I just want some knowledge of another natural healing modality that can be useful for me and anyone else who cares about their health. Natural healing modalities are great for supporting mainstream medicine too.

I spent five hours in my bedroom with my laptop and notebook watching videos of the movements, taking notes on each of the Chakras and listening to the three teachers.

I still have one lesson left to catch up on, which will take about 2 hours.

My brain hurts. I'm too old for this haha.

BGWLBH and I are going to venture into the flood zone tomorrow.

The floodwaters have receded. Most of the supermarkets are now fully stocked and we need to get our lotto renewed. Stockland's has reopened. I guess it's good to support local businesses as quickly as possible after the drama and missed income over a good portion of the week.

Now it's time to sleep.

Settled at Home.

Going nowhere. Doing nothing.

This is The Bay ...

No warning and a LOT of rain in a short period of time caught everyone unawares.

The Gypsy is stuck in her first floor flat surrounded by water and without power. Tomorrow will be day three without power for her.

Very little rain for us today, but The Bay received another 25mm.

We'll wait a few days before attempting to head into The Bay.

The nail salon where BGWLBH has her nails done was completely flooded so it will be a couple of weeks before they reopen.

We know our newsagent was damaged but we don't know how badly or how long it will be until they reopen.

Stocklands was closed today.

A few places along Boat Harbour Drive were inundated.

The Reject Shop and Woollies were flooded on Torquay Road.

We've seen plenty of photos of flooded streets but not much information on businesses damaged so we don't know who will be open for business nor when.

Such a terrible time for people all over SE QLD and northern NSW.

I know my brother is safe in Yandina. My Aunty Jackie is safe in Brisbane. My niece is ok just north of Brisbane. My son-in-law is ok on Gold Coast - he sustained a little damage in his business, but he and the family are safe.

I have other friends and family - like Lady Lynn and Happy Harry - I hope that no news is good news. Cousin Nellie in Brisbane. Rebel Mardi and The Lifesaver on Sunny Coast. Aunty C at Mt Gravatt.

I would normally contact most of those people through Facebook and Messenger, but my FB and Instagram were hacked and Meta have kicked me out of social media.

I had no intention of fixing these problems but I have three other accounts attached and a stack of photos that need to be deleted so I'm considering following up.

It's now almost 11pm so I need to sleep.

Unexpected That Was!

191mm of rain in 6 hours!

That was intense!

The shed out the back had some water flow through and tomorrow, Adoring Husband will check for any damage to his stuff.

The room with the pool pump also had some water inundation so that will need to be checked too.

I don't think there will be too much to worry about.

Hervey Bay copped over 400mm too!

Aside from that, we've also had our email passwords cancelled by Telstra claiming that our account had been compromised so AH spent almost 5 hours on the phone trying to get his fixed.

I was so frustrated and annoyed by the trouble he had that I decided to leave mine until tomorrow. I knew that I was 'on the edge' of a massive brain explosion, so I made a choice conducive to my continued good mental health!

I watched two movies today. "Thelma" with June Squibb, which I loved and "Burlesque" with Cher and Christina Aguilera which I've seen before but I love it.

Melbourne Storm annihilated Parramatta Eeels this afternoon.

I did a baked dinner tonight. Leg of lamb, potato, sweet potato, carrot, onion, green beans, snow peas and broccoli with home made gravy.

Very healthful.

I finished the evening with MAFS and it's already after 10pm so it's time to sleep.
