Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Art for Art’s Sake

It was a hell of a job setting up for todays art gathering.

Between the three of us, it took a few hours to set up four folding tables for art, taping the plastic table protectors to the tables because the wind was a bit crazy whistling through the carport, opening the new easels and placing them on the tables, collecting all the different media and strategically locating them on the tables. Finding different sized canvases, sketch pads, canvas pads, boards and water colour paper.

Setting up two smaller tables for the food, taping the table cloth, finding all the plastic wine glasses plus the margarita glasses, filling the esky with ice and putting all the alcohol in it.

Dragging all the heavy chairs outside for our seating comfort.

Then the wind picked up and we were concerned it might blow everything around so we cleared and cleaned in the art space in case we had to move inside. THAT was a chore in itself!

I made a cheese dip and BGWLBH did a fruit platter - the other girls were each bringing a plate as well.

Adoring Husband picked up the first of the girls and the others all arrived at staggered intervals, but by 1pm we were all seated and trying to figure out what to do with our creativity for the day.

It was just like old times, lots of laughter, lots of bagging each other out, lots of gossip, lots of drinking, lots of sexual innuendo and a little bit of focussed art.

I didn’t even take pics of everyone’s finished work!

We enjoyed each others company for a solid four hours.

Unfortunately, little Trish had to decline at the last minute due to illness. She had been in hospital all week and was called in for further tests today at 1pm but we missed her company.

It was a good (but tiring) day and the perfect way to celebrate my 63rd birthday.

Considering he was locked out of the house, could only view me through the bars of the gate and missed out on his afternoon play time, Harley was very well behaved all day. He’s such a good natured dog and as he grows and matures, I feel more and more blessed.

I cooked an easy chicken and salad for dinner and watched the footy afterwards

I’m absolutely buggered.

A big THANKYOU to AH and BGWLBH for all the effort, time and energy that they put in to make the day just right.

30 minutes after everyone had left, you would never have known that there was ever a party!

Now I need to sleep.

Nite all.

Who Am I?

Adoring Husband had an appointment in the Bay for an eye test this morning - a test that required eye drops and a driver - because he wasn’t allowed to drive afterwards.

His driver was BGWLBH and I stayed at home with Harley.

They left at 7.30am and I took Harley out to play for an hour before clearing out the fridge and giving it a full clean. It took me two hours to do the fridge and clear off the kitchen bench.

I removed some of the appliances that I had lined up on the bench for the last year, as well as the kombucha jug and stand and I sorted through the multitude of different teas on the bench. Now there is a coffee machine, the blender, the tins of tea that we use every day and the mini compost bin.

We have a very long kitchen bench.

The others arrived home and we began preparing for my art day tomorrow.

We set up the tables in the same configuration as when I had art classes in the shop - now under the new carport, covered them with the plastic table protectors, set up the new easels, lay out the canvases, found water paints, tubs of posca pens, paint brushes, tubs and jars for water and other bits and pieces.

There should be eight people and luckily I have eight chairs!

I have no idea what art I want to do yet but I do my best work under pressure.

I napped on the couch this afternoon during my quiz shows and watched my beloved Broncos win the footy tonight.

Now I need to sleep because it’s almost midnight. Tomorrow will be a big day!

2 out of Three

Two of my three parcels arrived in Melbourne today …

Let’s hope the third one appears tomorrow!

I was feeling a bit ‘off’ this morning so after I took Harley out, I returned to bed for almost an hour.

BGWLBH returned with good news about her medical tests.

Harley had lots of play time.

Adoring Husband picked up more grass and finished laying it today.

Two more sleeps til my birthday art day …

Should be fun with just the girls from my old art class + BGWLBH.
Now I need to sleep before the clock strikes midnight and I turn into a pumpkin 🎃

Can You See?

I can see!

The optometrist told me that I don’t need reading glasses.

In the last 25 years, I have been prescribed reading glasses and I have spent approximately $3500.

I was ripped off - thank you very much Spec Savers.

This is why I switched to OPSM.

I DO, however, require distance glasses and in the last five years my eyesight has deteriorated so little that he told me not to even worry about getting new glasses. But I will.

I’m using all of my old frames because they are excellent quality, top brand name frames that have barely been used.

Now I’m waiting on a quote to be emailed.

By rights, it shouldn’t cost me a cent because I have private health cover for optical, but we’ll see.

I’m so tired now, I can hardly keep my eyes open!

It’s definitely time to sleep.

Productive

Adoring Husband was VERY productive today laying new lawn in front of the concrete slab.

He miscalculated and didn’t order enough so there’ll be another trip to the lawn guy on Thursday.

I spent the morning washing windows. They only get done once a year and I really didn’t pick a good day because the neighbour is installing a pool and they started digging the hole today!

What a pain in the butt!

After the manual labour, I watched a few episodes of the new Portrait Artist of the Year series. I’m feeling inspired again but don’t have the skills to do portraits. Perhaps YouTube will be able to help me.

Tomorrow I’m off to have my eyesight tested. It’s been 5 years since my last test so I’m a bit overdue.

Harley has had plenty of play time today but he is sound asleep right now.

It’s approaching midnight so I’d best sign off and get some sleep.

The Real Sunday

I suck at footy tipping!

Still not finished, but very very close!

My knees are aching like crazy tonight so I’m going to massage my new cream into them and attempt to sleep.

Nite all.
