Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Slowly Does It

It was a slow old Saturday at the shop.

Just one paying customer all morning and 8 people through the door.

It’s not a great concern because this January is 40% up on last year and is the best January since the shop opened.

Onward and upward!

It gave me time to steam the remaining clothes, price and display them.

I tidied the kitchen.

Did some filing.

Tidied my desk.

My only paying customer, who was bright and early, didn’t have enough room to carry his purchases on his mobility cart, so Adoring Husband offered a delivery service! That was very kind.

I also have to mention how nice it is that with his hearing aid, AH can hear my every word. I haven’t had to repeat myself once and all that pent up frustration that I’ve been experiencing is slowly draining away.

I’m so happy 🤗

We were packed up and locking the shop right on 1pm and AH drove me to my appointment with The Gypsy.

I left there 2 hours later feeling very relaxed and clear headed.

Barramundi and salad was on our menu for dinner and I cooked up a small batch of dog food for psychotic dog Colli.

I’m feeling a bit weary now so it’s sleep time for me.

Nite all.

Say What?

For the first time in a decade, I’m sitting here in the lounge room watching the television with the volume at a very comfortable level.

Today, Adoring Husband, after much nagging, complaining, provoking, hounding and whinging (by me) took himself to Bay Audio and had a hearing test.

He exited with a brand new to the market hearing aid.

Now I have to stop swearing under my breath when I get cranky with him,  because quite obviously, his hearing is MUCH improved!

It feels weird to not have the sound reverberating through the walls.

I like it.

He also had a dental appointment and requires 3.5 hours of dental work which can’t be done until April and is going to cost a small fortune.

I’ve had two good days of sales at the shop.

My Lorraine Lea party on Thursday afternoon was successful and eight of us enjoyed 3 hours of eating, drinking, laughing and spending. I won’t know until Monday how much I get for free or half price because people are still ordering online.

Three people booked parties so I’ll be busy over the coming weeks!

It was good to see The Motivator after a month absence and the other girls were happy to see her too because it had been even longer since they’d seen her.

Even though the caravan parks are quite empty, there are still plenty of people around town, so business is better than last year at this time.

We’ve had Wattle birds build a nest in a plant pot in our alfresco area. They laid an egg about three weeks ago and it hatched yesterday ...

No doubt the annoying chirping will begin in the coming days!

It’s after 11pm.

Time for me to sleep.

Nite all.

Meditation Recommences

I slept very poorly last night.

It was 2.30am the last time I looked at the clock and after that I dozed on and off and woke ten minutes before the alarm at 6am.

So meditation was exactly what I needed to start my day. Numbers were down because some people were away and two regulars were not well so there were 5 empty seats.

Only three ladies remained for coffee and a chat afterwards, but that hour was full of giggles 🤭

It was a good day of sales and in between customers I was able to get a lot ticked off my “to do” list so it was a productive day.

I have struggled to keep my eyes open all afternoon and I came to bed at 7pm intending to stay awake for as long as possible so that I can sleep soundly all night.

I bought some Valerian Forte on Monday. It was for Adoring Husband to help him sleep through the night, but I’m going to take one tonight - I’ll report my findings tomorrow.

We had barramundi and salad for dinner.

I’m feeling weary and tomorrow afternoon I’m hosting a Lorraine Lea linen party at the shop after I close, so I need to sleep tight and wake refreshed in the morning.

I’ll definitely begin the day with a smoothie to increase my energy.

AH has a big day in The Bay planned.

Nite all.

Rozzie Day

My Aussie Day was almost perfect.

Lobster Mornay in bed would have capped it off perfectly.

I lay in bed all day in my pyjamas binge watching New Girl using the Netflix app on my iPad.

At 2.36pm I turned it off and rolled over for an hour long nap.

By 4pm I had changed into my swimmers and was enjoying the pool. I swam a couple of laps and floated on the bed for a while. Adoring Husband, who had been cleaning his shed all day, joined me for a dip.

We left the pool area by 5pm, changed out of our wet gear and drove to the shop to clear the training room of all the art class mess, vacuum the floor, lay down a rug to cover the dreadful paint splatters on the carpet and set out the chairs ready for meditation in the morning.

It took us an hour so it was well after 6pm when we arrived home. This meant that dinner had to be something quick and easy. We had leftover roast pork sandwiches with home made choko relish. I made a smoothie with frozen pineapple, watermelon and mango, coconut water and filtered water.

It will be an early night for me because I need to be up before 6am tomorrow.

Here is where I want to share something important ...

⁣Today I acknowledge the Butchulla people on whose traditional land we live.

I stand in solidarity with people who want to change the date of Australia Day. ⁣

I acknowledge the pain this day causes as a reminder of the devastation suffered by the First Nation people - and the impacts that are still felt today with ongoing generational trauma, racism and discrimination. ⁣

Moan Day

I did not enjoy today.

A new pair of shoes and two new rings did little to cushion the blow of today’s woes.

We had much to do but the gods were against us.

Our first stop was at our financial planners office ... which is closed! The story is too long to explain, but they are now situated on the Sunshine Coast and we were given conflicting information regarding these movements and how we should handle it.

Fail.

Next was Adoring Husband’s appointment with his Dr.

We were running a little early so we ducked into Tinkerbells where I found a couple nice rings with aquamarine in them. We also purchased a dragon for Chicklet’s birthday.

Dr Bills was running very late so our 11.30am appt turned into a 12.15pm appt.

The good news is that AH’s test results came back clear - no prostate cancer and no bladder cancer.

The bad news is that the condition that put him in hospital came very close to killing him and it’s more than likely he will require antibiotics on a permanent basis to prevent further episodes.

Ugh 😳 that sucks.

From there we took AH’s new glasses back to Spec Savers to be repaired. That’s when I bought some new shoes. They started at $159 and were on sale for $99 but when she scanned them they came down to $79. She then checked my customer points account and I had $17 available so I accepted that which reduced the shoes to $62!

Bargain!

We did some grocery shopping and it was about 2.15pm when we placed ourselves at the end of the queue outside Centrelink.

Our financial planner failed to provide Centrelink with one document for us and as a result we are now required to provide extra info. Not just a page or two, but hundreds of pages!

90 long hot uncomfortable minutes later, our situation had not improved and our financial advisor will be receiving a swift kick up the rear from us.

Hopefully we can get this resolved quickly.

We decided to grab a coffee and a juice from Su Jus Bar. God I needed that sustenance!

HBW still don’t have my paper bags with handles that I use for the shop.

We were able to pick up a new prescription for Colli’s medication.

G & D supplies were closed so we couldn’t check for the bags there.

On the drive home we almost had a head on collision with a HBW truck that was overtaking a car just before a bend!

We were home by 5pm and feeling tired and frustrated and hangry.

Thankfully, I’d bought a hot roast pork from Coles so we were sitting down to eat by 5.30pm.

I can’t believe it’s almost 11pm and I’m very happy that tomorrow is my lazy self care day. It’s going to be blissful 😍

Nite all.

When I Grow Up

Bobby Nelson (Willie Nelson’s sister) is 90 yrs of age and still plays keyboard in his band ...

Iris Apfel 99 yrs of age and proud of her eclectic personal style ...

Nanny 84 yrs of age with her own YouTube channel ...

Combine these three fabulously amazing women and that’s what I want to be when I grow up! Just sayin’

I reluctantly left my bed this morning to make myself presentable for a public outing with my girls. We attended Portside restaurant in Maryborough for a delicious two hour lunch.

I had the crispy skinned salmon steak with char grilled peach salad. Beauty and Lady Lynn had grilled barramundi. The Brains Trust had pumpkin salad with Cajun chicken. Aggie had soft shell tacos which looked REALLY delicious.

We sat outside on the verandah and there was a nice breeze that kept us comfortable throughout the meal. The staff were very friendly and efficient and while it was a leisurely lunch that lasted more than 2 hours, the time passed quickly.

All but one of us chose to play “ladies” and wore a dress. Yes! I wore a dress! Never again! I despise dresses. They’re just NOT ME.

It was a lovely day. Good food and good company.

Adoring Husband and Psychotic dog Colli were happy too see me arrive home safe n sound. I changed into my slobber dog clothes, plonked myself on the couch to binge watch New Girl for the remainder of the afternoon.

Bangers and mash for dinner and now watching Celebrity.

We have a big day in The Bay planned for tomorrow so it will be an early night for me.

Nite all.
