Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Checking Damage

So we drove into The Bay this morning.

It is a hive of activity.

Main Street and Torquay Road have chairs and cupboards and doors and boxes and tables and damaged stock lining the footpaths as shops attempt to clean up the mess caused by Sunday's flood event.

In some places you can clearly see where the flood line was, but in others, you would never know that anything happened at all.

There are many shops that won't be able to reopen for at least another week, maybe even longer.

We checked out the RSL Club. Their ground floor has been stripped bare and pressure cleaned, the escalator is not working, their lift is not working but they have a service lift that they can use for customers who cannot walk up stairs.

There will be no bingo for a week or two, the sports bar is closed and reception has been moved upstairs.

The staff who welcomed people at the entrance were very jovial and friendly, sometimes escorting the elderly up the stairs or offering them the service lift.

There was security everywhere.

There was even a mobile police unit in the carpark.

Anyway, I purchased myself a new top today and we were very pleased to see our favourite newsagent escaped water damage ... I'm not sure how ... but hopefully I now have a lucky lotto ticket!

I decided to buy roast chicken, roast pork, potato bake, fried rice, greek salad and pear & rocket salad for dinner. It was so nice to not have to cook after such a big day.

Adoring Husband played golf today, but apparently not very well. He came last, which means that he wins a free beer ... so he's not complaining haha.

BGWLBH bought orange cake from Su Jus so we even had dessert. It was delicious.

Now it's time to sleep. I have a play date with The Gypsy tomorrow morning.

Nite all.
