Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Let’s get Physical

Some physical purging occurred today.

After three days of pain, weakness, lethargy and discomfort, my body finally released what was upsetting it and I can feel myself improving already.

I had to break a date today and then find some strength this afternoon to go vote.

I also had to decline BGWLBH’s offer to accompany her into The Bay.

I obviously needed this day to release the crap and hopefully find my strength again.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

Obviously, nothing else of interest happened. I introduced Adoring Husband to Jet Lag, but he didn’t find it as entertaining as I’d hoped. It’s not something that we’ll be sharing in the future.

It’s getting late so I’m off to sleep.

It’s Friday Again!

Another bed day, just to ease my tummy for another day.

Harley spent a lot of time in bed with me and we watched a lot of Jet Lag on YouTube.

My only food for the day was 2 chicken wings and a frosty fruit ice block.

Unfortunately, I changed both of my footy tips for tonight (I don’t know why!) and got them both wrong. I must NOT change my tips EVER! Every time I do that, I get it wrong!

I wrote a 6 page letter to my not so little Chicklet.

I did some journaling.

There has been a dog howling in the neighbourhood all afternoon and evening - I think I heard the dog owner arrive home half an hour ago, so hopefully that will be the end of it.

Feeling a bit weary now so I’m off to sleep.

Still Recovering

My tummy is still quite sensitive today and tonight. I imagine that it will improve by tomorrow, but there will still be some tenderness. Very annoying.

I didn’t get out of bed until after 9am and even though nobody had seen sick little me since 8pm the night before, nobody had even checked to see if I was still alive.

BGWLBH had left for The Bay quite early in the morning and Adoring Husband had been in the shower for 20 minutes before finally coming up for air and wishing me good morning.

He left for golf at 11.30am so I enjoyed about 90 minutes of peace and quiet before BGWLBH returned.

During that time I watched the Kevin Costner movie “Message in a Bottle” also starring Paul Newman as his Dad and Robyn Wright Penn (when she was married to Sean Penn).

The pool guy came and advised that the reason that fungas is growing on our pool steps is because the chlorinator hasn’t been working for probably a month or more - it’s been 6 weeks since the pool guy was last here.

Very annoying.

So Harley can’t go in the pool for a week while the treatment is in the pool and until the chlorinator is repaired.

Also very annoying.

I gathered enough energy to make my chicken volcano for dinner - chopped chicken, onion, capsicum, celery, pumpkin, mushroom, zucchini, garlic, thyme, paprika, chilli, salt, pepper and a T of sour cream all cooked in a pan and then placed in a ramekin. On top of that goes mashed sweet potato and white potato and Parmesan cheese.

30 minutes in a very hot oven (220°C)

I served that with a side of snow peas and green beans.

THAT is one hell of a serving of nutrition right there.

We played some trivia.

We all went to our respective bedrooms before 7.30pm.

That proves that we are officially old.

However, it’s already 10.20pm so I’m going to sleep.

Mistake

Proof of vaccine damage

At lunch time I sent Adoring Husband to the local shops to get some hot chips and dim sims.

I stuffed my face and made myself extremely unwell so I’ve been in bed since 2.30 this afternoon.

It ended up being “fend for yourself” dinner because I just wasn’t well enough to get up and cook.

My tummy, at 11pm, is still feeling very tender and uncomfortable.

Self inflicted so I expect no sympathy.

I’ve spent that time watching “Jet Lag: The Game. We turned New Zealand into a real life board game” - all 7 episodes!

I’m hooked.

Definitely ready to sleep now.

Did You Know?

 - Did you know that honey contains a substance that helps the human brain work better?

- Did you know that honey is the ONLY food on earth that can sustain human life alone?

- Did you know that a teaspoon of honey is enough to sustain human life for 24 hours?

- Did you know that propolis produced by bees is the most powerful natural antibiotic?

-Did you know that honey has no expiration date?

- Did you know that to gain 1 kg honey you need the nectar of more than 1,000,000 flowers?

- Did you know that there is a special wooden spoon for honey, and not a metal one?

-Did you know that bee grazing is the healthiest food in the world?

- Did you know that pollen can have over 1500 colours and shades?

- Did you know that the bodies of the world's great emperors were buried in coffins of gold and then covered with honey to avoid rotting?

- Did you know that bees are the ONLY insects that produce food for humans?

- Did you know that the mother (queen) puts twice her weight in eggs in one day?

- Did you know that bees flap their wings more than 11,000 times per minute?

- Did you know that the only honey that can be enjoyed by people allergic to beekeeping products is manuka honey.

-Did you know that Manuka honey is the best honey for women?

- Did you know that acacia honey is not sweetened?

Did you know that?

A bee lives less than 40 days, visits at least 1000 flowers and produces less than a teaspoon of honey, but for her it is a lifetime!

I had a brief (1 hour) zoom meeting with The Gypsy today.

I sit on my bed for zoom meetings, because it’s the most private space in the house. I was so comfortable where I was, I simply chose to stay there for a further three hours!

Productivity was still pretty high.

I stewed some apples to make strudel.

I made a pineapple/mango/passionfruit cheesecake but I messed up by using too much fresh fruit and it didn’t set properly. It turned out more like a custard, but still tasty.

I made chicken meatballs with a delicious tomato based sauce served with fusilli pasta for dinner.

I submitted my “cramped” photo to 52Frames …

That is Harley’s head cramped in the frame of the photo haha.

We all played trivia and I watched Farmer Wants a Wife.

Vegan Chickie and Mr Perfect recommended a YouTube channel called “Jet Lag: The Game” and suggested I start with “We Played Hide and Seek Across Japan”

It was GREAT! I’m hooked.

Gotta get up early for meditation and it’s already midnight. Ugh!

Sunday of Ease

Even though, once you’ve retired, there’s no such thing as a weekend, Sundays still feel like free lazy days.

That’s what today was for me.

It was after 9am when I left my bed and Harley was perfectly happy to wait til I was ready to rise.

As always, a cuppa tea and Harley play was first on the agenda.

I did my washing, made some breakfast and parked my butt n the couch where I watched the movie “Tin Cup” with Kevin Costner, Cheech, Don Johnson and Rene Russo.

I filled the next hour with AFL while I waited for the NRL to start.

I’m pleased to announce that my tipping finished on a high when I tipped Tigers to defeat Sharks and I am now 10 points in front of 2nd place! This weekend added 12pts to my total! I am very happy

Tonight, for dinner, I prepared Chicken Scaloppini, potato and sweet potato mash with green beans and broccolini.

We played trivia for an hour then Adoring Husband and I watched the Australian 1% Club before retiring to our bedrooms.

I’m not sure what tomorrow will bring, so I shall sleep now, in preparation for it.
