Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Lesson Learned

Adoring Husband was in BIG trouble tonight.

🤬

At the same time, I learned a valuable lesson.

At lunch time today, I asked AH what time the AFL grand final was on.

He said he didn’t know, but after a little while, he told me 6pm.

We then had a long discussion about how in previous years, we were sure it started at 2pm.

I even did a search in my blog and over the years, the GF was always on during the day, so we agreed that it was strange for it to start at 6pm this year.

Because I was looking forward to this game, knowing that my team, Brisbane Lions, (2nd to Carlton of course) was the underdog, the day seemed to move so freaking slowly.

I filled my day with reorganising 2 shelves of my pantry, binge watching a series of Australian “Love it or List it”, packaging my freshly made chicken bone broth, crumbing and cooking my prawn cutlets and of course, Harley play.

At 6pm, I sat down with some reheated chicken broth, ready to watch the match.

AH turned on Foxtel 504 and noticed that the word ‘LIVE” was not in the top right hand corner of the screen - which usually means that it’s a replay.

I said “Put it on channel 7. They are the ones with the AFL rights to ‘live’ grand final.”

But the news was on channel 7.

THAT was when AH discovered that the grand final was finished and HAD in fact been played at 2pm, as is usual on grand final day.

Ugh 😩🤬🤯

I yelled.

I swore.

I bitched and complained.

I nagged.

I yelled some more.

I checked online to see the final score and was pleased to see that Brisbane Lions had won, so we watched the replay on Foxtel 504.

The lesson I learned (the hard way) was that if I want information about anything important, I need to find it myself - even when AH cries “Why don’t you ever believe me!?” THAT IS WHY!

I know what time the qualifying final for NRL between Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers commences on Sunday, because I looked it up myself. 😛

Lesson learned.

Orchids For You

Thursday was filled with washing, Harley play and cooking.

Today was the annual orchid show in The Bay.

We had breakfast at Arkarra Tea Gardens. Well, I had peppermint tea, which was delicious. As we were leaving, some hot rods were driving in for morning tea. We only caught the first couple …

From there we headed straight for the orchid show. Pretty spectacular, as always.

Before we left, I got to savour a GF scone with strawberry jam and real cream! This is not on my new dietary list of safe foods, but seriously! I’ve searched for GF scones for a decade without success. I wasn’t going to pass this opportunity up and I suffered for it afterwards, but it was worth it.

I had to wait a few minutes because they were still in the oven - that’s how fresh it was! I made the effort to return inside and compliment the cook.

I didn’t buy any orchids this year because my live in gardener was unable to keep any of my previous orchids alive.

We had quite a few items on our ‘to do’ list so the remainder of the day was filled with errands and we were home by 3pm.

Adoring Husband’s team is currently playing in the qualifying final against Melbourne Storm. AH and I were both too bloody tired to stay up and watch it, so I am watching it in bed. Melbourne is winning 16-10 with 16 minutes to go.

I’ve tipped Cronulla but it wasn’t with confidence and more of an emotional tip. I can’t lose the footy tipping comp from here, so I can afford to take chances.

So this is where I sign off and go support the sharks.

Happy Harley Day

With no meditation on Tuesday, I had a quiet day that started with Harley play and finished with trivia.

I cooked chicken saltimbocca for dinner and served it with mash and asparagus and green beans. Both BGWLBH and Adoring Husband went back for seconds - always a good sign.

I watched “The Little Things” starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malik and Jared Leno. I’d seen it before but still enjoyed it the second time.

I also caught up on The Block.

Fell asleep around 11pm and slept for 7 solid hours.

My alarm sounded so that I could rise and shine for a day in The Bay with BGWLBH.

We started with coffee at OBC, followed by Office Works (yet another journal), leading to the nail salon and Big W, the lady’s boutique where I bought a skirt, then on to Stocklands for t-shirts, make up, lotto and browsing. Our last stop was Pialba for juice at The Jam Jar, bacon from the butcher and groceries at Coles.

We were home before 2pm and I was starving!

There was special time with Harley because it’s his third birthday! 🎁

I made some lunch, watched my quiz shows, played with Harley and prepared creamy chicken and mushroom penne pasta for my team’s dinner.

We played trivia and watched MKR. Even though I was really tired at 4pm, I now have my second wind at 10.45pm!

I will now attempt to sleep.

Lightning is Cracking!

I sat up in bed watching the France Open Golf until 3am 🕒

After such a busy week, staying up that late was probably not a sound decision. I woke at 7.20am and four hours of sleep is really not adequate.

I stayed awake hoping that I would fall asleep early tonight. That probably would have worked except I fell asleep on the couch this afternoon so it’s now it’s after 11pm and I’m only just considering calling it a night.

I watched the new Bridget Jones movie today and was mildly disappointed. It was pretty depressing. Not light and funny like all the others.

We’ve had storms rumbling over and around us all evening. There had been 15mm of rain since 2pm and there is currently a storm brewing above us as I type the this. The thunder has been cracking loudly.

Thank goodness Harley is not bothered by storms!

I made tuna patties for dinner with sweet potato chips and a garden salad.

I had my favourite chicken broth with two poached wings followed by coconut cream ice cream with mango and blueberries.

No meditation tomorrow because the yearly tombola has the hall hired on this date every year. I will enjoy the sleep in.

Now I really must get some sleep.
