Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Egg Hunt

Well! Thanks to those ‘across the road’ neighbours, I enjoyed another disturbed evening that prevented sleep until after 1.30am.

I have a sneaking suspicion that their last visitor may have been the police. The last car that arrived, slowly and quietly stopped outside and the two people who left the car, very gently closed the car doors and walked to front door. Prior to this, all visitors were greeted by opening the garage door.

I heard the screen door open and they were inside for about 15-20 minutes and then quietly left. From that moment on, there was peace.

I came to bed at 7pm and he was already causing a commotion.

Aside from the constant flow of visitors, he was rummaging around in the back of his ute, which is full of tools and other paraphernalia. At one point, he drove off at speed and 15 minutes later, returned, at speed, and screeched into the driveway slamming on his brakes.

At 1.15am he was drumming loudly and rhythmically (NOT musically) on his ute.

So, to cheer me up and pass the time, I watched more YouTubers reacting to John Farnham singing. It made the disturbances easier to bear.

I finally got to sleep before 2am but didn’t wake up this morning until 9am.

I found a text message from BGWLBH asking if I wanted to accompany her into town and help her hunt for eggs. Our usual haunts didn’t have eggs on Thursday.

So I jumped out of bed, showered and made myself presentable.

I left Harley in Adoring Husband’s capable hands for play time.

We found eggs surprisingly quickly so decided, after receiving a text from the RSL Club about their golden ticket promotion, to spend some quality time gambling and testing our golden ticket luck.

BGWLBH’s luck was on point and her name was called to draw out a golden ticket! She is now in the running for $50,000 draw in November!

It was a good day.

I played with Harley this afternoon, then crumbed my prawns for ‘fend for yourself’ dinner night.

Sat down to watch the football and still have not had any success with tipping and nor has anyone else!

So far this evening, the neighbour has been very quiet, so I’m going to attempt sleep now.

Tax you if you

Tax the car,

Tax the petrol,

Find other ways

To tax our ass.

Then tax the coffin,

Tax the grave,

When YOU’RE gone,

Do not relax,

The inheritance tax.

I was awake until 2.30am because the questionable neighbour across the road was receiving visitors all night.

Some cars left their engines running.

Some cars had three passengers, so four doors would open and close upon arrival and 20 minutes later, four doors would open and close to leave.

Some people had long conversations at the car - not clear enough for me to hear the gist of it, but loud enough to disturb my sleep or prevent it.

Sometimes they would speed off, revving the engine in the process.

Sometimes the resident would use the garage door to enter and exit the house, so he would use the remote control to open and close the door. Because the night breeze is coming from that direction, it carries the sound over our house.

This would not be so much of a problem except Harley woke me at 6am needing to go empty his bits - the last time he woke me for that was probably a year ago or more!

Running on 3.5 hours of sleep had me moving like a sloth.

I shelled 3 sand crabs and ate half for breakfast.

At midday, I came to bed for a nap but could only doze on and off for a couple of hours. I stayed in bed until 4pm and only got up to play with Harley.

Prior to that, I watched YouTube videos of people in other countries reacting to John Farnham singing “Help” accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

I must have watched that video of John Farnham 100 times and every time it takes my breath away, but when I see how others react to it, it moves me to tears. I can’t get enough of it.

Adoring Husband cooked chicken wings for dinner.

I watched the football and once again, am doing very poorly in the tipping, but so is everybody else. Once again I’m not bothered.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Shopping Day

It was shopping day in The Bay.

Sadly, it was only food and necessities.

Next time, I’ll go to Tinkerbell’s to pick up my layby.

No eggs to be found … anywhere!

We arrived home just after 3pm.

I unpacked the groceries, packaged up Harley’s bones to freeze, took Harley out to play, bandaged Adoring Husband’s dog attack wounds (not Harley), cooked honey soy chicken and rice for dinner, played trivia, watched the football and came to bed.

That was my day.

Getting My Write On

Someone once said,

“I don’t wish people health or wealth. I wish them luck.

Because the people on the Titanic were healthy.

They were rich.

But they weren’t lucky.”

It makes you stop and think.

After the 9/11 attacks, a lot of people came forward with stories.

Stories about how they survived, not by choice, but by chance.

One man lived because he took his son to his first day of kindergarten.

Another survived because it was his turn to bring doughnuts to work.

Someone else missed their train.

Someone got stuck in traffic.

A woman’s alarm didn’t go off.

Another spilled coffee on her shirt and had to change.

Someone’s car wouldn’t start.

Someone went back home to answer a phone call.

One person was running late because their child was being unusually slow.

And one man simply couldn’t catch a cab.

They were just small things. Ordinary things.

But those tiny moments changed how that day unfolded.

Ever since I read these stories, I’ve started thinking differently.

Now, when I’m running late,

When I forget something and have to go back,

When my morning falls apart for no reason,

I try to remind myself:

Maybe this isn’t bad luck.

Maybe I’m exactly where I need to be.

Maybe something is protecting me from what I don’t even see.

So the next time things don’t go your way,

The keys go missing, the traffic is awful, your plans fall apart,

Pause.

Take a breath.

Maybe it’s not a setback.

Maybe it’s life helping you in disguise.

Because sometimes,

The delays that frustrate us

Are the very things that save us.

Adoring Husband took himself into The Bay to the driving range today and ran a few errands while he was in town.

Meanwhile, I took myself to my bedroom to finally get some writing done. I’m part way through chapter six. It’s a bit scattered, but at least I can edit it once I’ve got it all typed onto pages.

I found a container of frozen spaghetti bolognese sauce in the freezer, so I reheated it for dinner and added some more mince, served it with GF spaghetti, a side salad and some grated Parmesan cheese.

We played trivia and watched Andy Lee’s 100.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Small Group

There were only three of us, including the teacher, at meditation this morning.

It turned out to be a great morning where we shared lots of personal information and provided loving support for each other.

The three of us have been attending meditation together for seven years, and even though it’s the only time we spend together, through these classes, we know of each other’s trials and tribulations and struggles. We each are a safe space for other and we feel comfortable talking about such things.

The class ended with long, warm hugs.

🥰

The Gypsy and I had 90 minutes together afterwards, until the cool breeze sent us packing to our respective homes to get cozy.

I did a ‘junk food’ shop before heading home.

The afternoon was spent with Adoring Husband in front of the TV.

I cooked chicken scallopini with stir fried vegetables for dinner which received rave reviews.

We played trivia.

Farmer Wants a Wife.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Short Solo Time.

Plane Crash in Brazil

These doctors were meeting to discuss their experiences with “turbo cancers” among the vaccinated - in particular, the Covid vaccinated.

I thought today was going to be a perfectly peaceful solo day for me.

I expected to be alone from 7.30am until about 2.30pm.

Unfortunately, my solo time ended just after 11.30am.

🫤

I baked apple and cinnamon muffins, adding extra green apple to the mix. I got to eat two of them fresh out of the oven. They were slightly crisp around the top edges and soft, fluffy and apple-y in the middle.

Absolutely divine.

Harley and I had a couple of big play times.

I watched some Jet Lag on YouTube.

I received three phone calls from Adoring Husband who was in town waiting while the car was being serviced and had the rear brakes replaced.

Nice and easy home made hamburgers for dinner.

We played trivia.

Farmer Wants a Wife.

Now it’s time to sleep so that I can get up early for meditation.

Rested and Ready

Another late start to the day, followed by Harley play, a cooked crepe breakfast and some more “Jet Lag” on YouTube, followed by football x 3 games.

Terrible footy tipping week, but nobody did well, so I’m not bothered.

I cooked ‘Orange Glazed Chicken’ with ‘Baked Sweet Potato stuffed with onion, capsicum, mushroom, pine nuts and goats cheese’ with ‘baked potato in their jackets with sour cream’, with green beans.

It went down very well and I received high praise.

That was my Sunday.

No book writing, but both Adoring Husband and BGWLBH will be out tomorrow so I’ll have the day by myself and I can write to my heart’s content.

AH has to put the car in for a full service and BGWLBH has an appointment at the nail salon and other errands to run.

On that note…
