Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Stormy Weather

Dr Peter McCullough (information that everyone should know)

We are currently under siege.

There have been continual storms rolling over the top of us for about four hours and there are still more to follow.

The lightning has been flashing non stop, the thunder has been explosive and the rain very heavy.

48mm so far.

I haven’t looked outside, but by the sound of the rain, the wind is pretty strong.

I’m very impressed that through it all, Harley hasn’t even lifted his head. He is sleeping soundly and obviously not bothered by all the commotion.

Apparently there has been some flash flooding at our local shopping centre and sand bags have been brought to the rescue for a couple of the shops near the corner.

Right now the rain is slamming against my bedroom windows, but I predict that this should only last for another 15 minutes. Further west, there is another cluster of storms developing, which should reach us in perhaps an hour?

It’s going to be a hectic night and there are predictions for storms all weekend, with tomorrow (Saturday) being particularly nasty. Tornado activity has been forecast so, for some, it’s not going to be fun.

A young woman died from a lightning strike on the Sunshine Coast today. Very very sad.

Adoring Husband and I spent a good portion of the day in The Bay, running errands, grocery shopping, doing AH’s taxes, picking up medical referrals and fixing my frozen bank account by providing ID (I provided ALL of my ID when I opened the account 32 yrs ago so why the hell do they need it again?!?)

Ugh!

We arrived home by 1pm but by the time I unpacked the shopping and gave each item a home, made my lunch and parked my butt somewhere comfortable, it was 2pm and I was feeling like a lawn roller had taken me by surprise! I felt every year of my age - very age challenged!

I played with Harley this morning, before we left, and found some time between storms this afternoon, so he at least, wasn’t feeling neglected or deprived.

For the first time in about a month, we played trivia for an hour, and I had crawled into bed by 6.45pm.

I caught up on a couple of my fave reality TV shows, watched the T20 cricket live from Melbourne - the Aussies defeated the Indian team.

BGWLBH and I plan on attending the Howard markets in the morning (depending on the weather) so I should get some sleep.

Let’s Celebrate

It was a milestone birthday.

A big fat 69er!

To celebrate, 14 of us gathered at the local bowls club for lunch.

Lots of gifts were handed to the birthday girl and it seemed like an odd group of women, ranging from classic and stylish to crazy hippie.

There was plenty of chatter, plenty of laughter, plenty of drinking and plenty of eating.

Everybody dispersed after more than two hours of fun and frivolity, most heading to the birthday girl’s house for more celebrations. Five of us didn’t follow.

I waited for Adoring Husband to pick me up after golf and played the pokies for a while. I lost a little.

It was after 4pm when I got home and realised that I hadn’t planned anything for dinner.

I hustled and decided to cook GF pies and serve with salads. I prepared a garden salad and a broccoli/apple salad. I had just finished batching fresh broth, so I enjoyed a cup of that.

It’s been an exhaustingly sociable day and I have planned a day in the bay with Adoring Husband tomorrow, so it’s time to sleep.

Happy Hump Day

The rain and storms finally stopped.

There was much rolling thunder for most of the night and although we only received 25mm over 24 hours, it felt like way more than that.

The pool was certainly filled to the brim!

Tonight we have a break from crappy weather, but on Friday, it starts all over again and will go on into the weekend, so we need to be prepared. I saw predictions of possible tornado activity - I certainly hope that doesn’t come to fruition, especially here in our town.

I was a ‘little bit’ productive today.

Two loads of washing plus some hand washing, cleared out some old fruit and vegetables from the fridge, packed chopped fruit into bags to freeze for smoothies, played with Harley twice and cooked a big meal in the kitchen.

Chicken thighs in lemon sauce. Cauliflower Au Gratin. Mixed roasted vegetables (onion, carrot, sweet potato, potato, cherry tomatoes all dusted in paprika, Italian seasoning, Celtic sea salt, black pepper and garlic). Asparagus and green beans.

It was well received.

Adoring Husband and I wanted to watch some cricket tonight but both the T20 AND the ODI were rain delayed and possibly cancelled (I haven’t checked).

Tomorrow I have a birthday lunch, so I think it’s time to sleep.

A Day to Regenerate

I was feeling rather poorly this morning, so I chose to forego meditation.

I also chose to spend the entire day in bed.

Thankfully, it rained all day, so Harley couldn’t go out to play and I wasn’t feeling guilty for not playing with him.

Between naps, I wrote more of my book, journaled, watched MAFS UK, read my tarot cards and pulled a Journey card and watched my quiz shows.

The storms that hit last night were quite fierce, but we were grateful that there was no damage.

After the storm, at midnight, I thought to check the front porch for a parcel I’ve been expecting. Of course it was there and completely drenched! It was a thick cardboard box, so by the time I found it, the water hadn’t yet reached the contents inside. If I’d left it til morning, it might have been a different story!

Right now … there is another storm above us and it is raining so heavily that I’ve had to increase the volume on the TV from 6 up to 17.

I’m feeling quite weary from my day in bed, so I think it’s time to sleep.

Satisfactory

A play with Harley.

A day in the Bay.

A quick easy dinner - hamburger for Adoring Husband - rissoles and salad for BGWLBH.

A heavy duty storm with wind, lightning, thunder and rain.

A night of reality TV.

A satisfactory day.

Almost Missed it!

The first Rugby League Ashes Test was played last night in England.

Being in England, means that it’s televised live here at stupid o’clock.

It was advertised for 12.30am, but I didn’t realise that was “daylight savings” time, so it was televised here at 11.30pm!

I happened across the game at the beginning of the second half because I was channel surfing, trying to find something to fall asleep to.

How lucky was that!?

I found the replay this morning, so I got to see the first half.

Well done to the Aussies winning 26-6!

So it was after 1.30am when I fell asleep.

I didn’t get up until 9am and after Harley play, decided on another tv binge day.

After the football, I watched “Extreme Measures” with Hugh Grant from 1996 - excellent - followed by “Luckiest Girl Alive” with Mila Kunis - excellent.

We prepped for forecasted massive storms this afternoon. We’ve been receiving warnings for days of large hail, gale force winds, heavy rain, lightning and thunder blah blah blah.

We moved all the pool furniture and loose items into the pool kitchen and put BGWLBH’s car undercover.

Thankfully, all we got was 3.9mm of rain and a bit of lightning and thunder. Better to be safe than sorry.

Brisbane had big hail, strong winds, enough lightning to send the footballers undercover for 90 minutes and 70,000 homes lost power.

I made sad shishkebabs in a hot oven for dinner. They were not well received. I had chicken broth with a couple of wings.

We were disappointed by The Block auctions tonight and amused by the social media hammering the show received. Happy it’s over.

I need to sleep now because it’s almost midnight.
