Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Beginning the Binge

I binged on Netflix movies today.

First was a Stephen King movie “Delores Claiborne” - excellent.

Second was “2.22” - excellent.

Third was “Babes” - excellent.

Right now, I’m in bed watching “The Devil Wears Prada” and we all know that one is excellent.

Adoring Husband spent most of the day in his shed and Harley enjoyed some time getting under his feet.

BGWLBH spent most of the day in the bay but kindly bought me a delicious green juice, topped up with extra ice, so that it was still perfect by the time she arrived home.

It was “fend for yourself” night for dinner. I crumbed whiting fillets and prawn cutlets earlier in the day, cooked and ate the fish for breakfast, and then I cooked the prawns for dinner. So I’m full of fried crumbed food!

A fairly unproductive and self indulgent day for a Saturday.

Brothaholic

I’m a “brothaholic” and I don’t care!

I’m addicted to home made chicken broth - especially double broth!

What is double broth you ask?

I poach chicken wings and feet in a mix of 1 cup chicken broth and 1 cup of filtered water. It enriches the flavour and I can literally feel my insides healing - the lining of my gut, my intestines and even my throat.

The natural salts and minerals, added Celtic sea salt and collagen from the bones, vitamins and minerals from the original broth (carrot, celery, onion, garlic, turmeric) does so much to strengthen my bones, boost my immune system and helps me feel healthy as an ox, especially if I drink it daily.

I love it SO much.

I’ve been drinking it almost every day for about a month but I’ve run out and need to make a new batch tomorrow.

Today was another day in The Bay and I had to buy my fresh seafood for tomorrow nights “fend for yourself” dinner. I selected whiting fillets and raw prawn cocktails which I’ll crumb tomorrow.

It felt like Saturday all day, which was weird.

I had a very restless night of sleep so I’m ready to remedy that right now.

Lunch at MAHs

MAH = Miners Arms Hotel at Torbanlea.

I was picked up in the MG and we went for a spin out to Torbanlea, approximately 20 minutes.

It was like a joyride at the carnival!

Obviously, no air conditioning and no side windows. The roof was up and driving between 90 and 100kph, the wind buffeted around the side view mirrors and whipped my hair around my face. Luckily I remembered to bring a hair band so I didn’t look like someone from the Blair Witch Project when we arrived at our destination!

I loved every minute of that drive! It brought back childhood memories of when cars had no air conditioning and we relied on the wind through the windows to keep us cool.

The food at the pub was delicious. I had barramundi with chips and salad. Probably the best chips I’ve had for a while - crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Everybody was happy with their meal and we all drank lemon, lime and bitters, non alcoholic, because they were driving.

The service was super friendly, but a bit slow because of young trainees - they have to start somewhere.

I will return some time in the future.

We arrived at 11.30am and I was at home in my kitchen at 2.30pm.

Adoring Husband arrived home soon after me and had finished golf early due to vision problems. I sent him to the butcher anyway. I figured that if he could drive home from Howard with vision problems, a short trip to the butcher wouldn’t hurt.

🥴

BGWLBH made 4 salads for dinner and AH cooked meat on the barbecue, so I didn’t have to think about it. I heated some chicken broth for myself.

I’ve had a very nice day and now it’s time to sleep.

Moving Through the Week

Had a lovely day with Adoring Husband on Tuesday, although we did grocery shopping and ran errands, we still enjoyed a delicious lunch at Aquavue on the esplanade.

We hadn’t been there for 14 months because our last two experiences were not pleasant. Prior to that, it was our favourite place to eat and we took all our visitors there.

Anyway, the food AND the service was much improved since our last visit, so it was a good choice for AH’s birthday.

The weather was glorious and the water looked very inviting …

We spent six hours in The Bay and I was exhausted, but still had to cook dinner for the team. AH had leftover lasagne and I made a quick honey soy chicken with rice for BGWLBH.

I went to bed early and slept a solid 8 hours.

Today has been much quieter day.

I cooked dinner early in the day - chicken and vegetable based shepherds pie, so tonight I just had to put it in the oven.

I watched a fluffy Hallmark movie and my quiz shows. Harley and I had gentle play because his foot is still healing.

I came to bed early but it’s already approaching 11pm so I’d best get some sleep because I have a lunch date with my art girls tomorrow.

Sunday Strip

Even though his birthday isn’t until Tuesday, Adoring Husband drove into The Bay to purchase his own present this morning.

It was from Bunnings (surprise surprise).

When he arrived home, he spent time putting it together and filling it up.

Got you wondering now haven’t I?

You’ll never know.

While he was busy doing all of that, I stripped my bed and washed my bedding, played with Harley and lay on my bare bed, binge watching The Celebrity Traitors (UK).

I’m hooked.

I made baked sweet potato in their jackets, baked white potato in its jacket both covered in curried mince, tzatziki and green beans on the side.

I don’t know how it tasted or if it was enjoyed, because I was busy in my bedroom wrestling my bedding back onto the bed.

Exhausting.

It was lovely to slide between fresh clean sheets and under my light duvet that I’ve changed for Summer,  and I’m watching Richard Osman’s House of Games on YouTube.

Definitely sleep time for me.
