Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Being Useful

The Navy found they had too many officers and decided to offer an early retirement bonus. They promised any officer who volunteered for Retirement a bonus of $1,000 for every inch measured in a straight line between any Two points in his body.. The officer got to choose what those two points would be. The first officer who accepted asked that he be measured from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. He was measured at six feet and walked out with a bonus of $72,000. The second officer who accepted was a little smarter and asked to be measured from the tip of his outstretched hands to his toes. He walked out with $96,000. The third one was a non-commissioned officer, a grizzly old Chief who, when asked where he would like to be measured replied, 'From the tip of my willie to my testicles.' It was suggested by the pension man that he might want to reconsider, explaining about the nice big cheques the previous two Officers had received. But the old Chief insisted and they decided to go along with him providing the measurement was taken by a Medical Officer. The Medical Officer arrived and instructed the Chief to 'drop 'em,' which he did. The medical officer placed the tape measure on the tip of the Chief's willie and began to work back. "Dear Lord!", he suddenly exclaimed,

''Where are your testicles?''

The old Chief calmly replied, '' Vietnam ''

The Gypsy visited this morning so that I could help her fill out some important paperwork.

It took almost two hours and was a little bit stressful.

Afterwards, we sat by the pool to chat and relax, which was nice.

She left at 2pm.

Tomorrow, I’m off to her place for lunch. We were supposed to be having a women’s gathering but there have been too many cancellations in the last 24 hrs so, instead, Heart of Gold, The Gypsy and I are having a girlies lunch.

I am providing dessert which I’ve decided is berries (raspberries, strawberries and blueberries) with chocolate avocado mousse. The Gypsy is vegan so it can be tricky for we non-vegans to figure out something tasty that doesn’t include any animal products.

My mousse is made with avocado, coconut cream, cacao powder, salt and maple syrup. Adoring Husband and I used to eat it often during our paleo years.

I’m looking forward to our day together.

My ‘fend for yourself’ meal was toasted ham and tomato on sourdough followed by a dairy free magnum ice cream. I ate that at 2.30pm and that was enough to satisfy me for the day. I did eat some cheeky cheezels for a snack in the late afternoon.

We’ve been watching footy all afternoon and AH went to bed before 7pm.

The new barbecue is still not useable due to issues with the gas line. We’ll get there eventually.

It’s not even 9pm but I’m very tired so I think I’ll get some sleep.

Happy Adoring Husband

Adoring Husband received his early Father’s Day AND birthday present today.

He researched, drove into the Bay yesterday to inspect a few, made a decision overnight and drove back into the Bay today to purchase and pick up.

It’s a new Beefmaster barbecue …

By the time I arrived home from The Bay, myself, he had already spent 4 hours assembling the damned thing and then with help from me for another 90 minutes, it’s still NOT assembled!

Thank goodness I will have a visitor in the morning and AH has an extended coffee date to farewell a friend from town, so it will be a nice break from the dumbass barbecue.

AH has gone to bed early, feeling sorry for himself, aching all over and suffering with hand cramps. It’s a weighty, solid piece of equipment and heavy going for one man to manage.

One thing I know for sure, is that AH will be cooking dinner every night next week!

BGWLBH and I had a nice day in The Bay and visited Farm Gate on the way home for some organic fruit and veg, Manuka honey, chilli jam, sourdough bread and other goodies.

I’m doing well in the footy tipping so far this week. Two out of two.

Now I’m off to do Friday Falafel and then get some sleep.

A Little Bit

I was a little bit productive today.

  • 2 loads of washing
  • 1 x 600ml batch of colloidal silver
  • 2 x lasagnes + salad
  • Attempted to print out special forms for a friend but rules have changed and it can’t be done.
  • Emailed financial advisor about money matters.
  • Researched macrame door curtains and other colourful possibilities.
  • Played with Harley twice.
I accidentally tipped Tigers to defeat Manly and the happiest of results … Tigers won!! Nobody else tipped them.

Time for me to sleep now.

Catching Up

What a lovely morning we had at the Lions Park!

I took a table cloth, crackers and dip and GF Tim Tams as well as my tea.

There were six of us in attendance and we sat at a table with shelter right by the water.

The weather was glorious and it wasn’t even too hot in the direct sunlight.

We all took turns talking about what we’ve been doing for the past year. There was much laughter and teasing and fun to be had and two and a half hours had passed by the time we decided to go our separate ways.

They are a great group of girls and we’ve planned for a lunch at the Bowls Club next month and a couple of us will be whale watching on Saturday week.

I cooked my lunch when I got home and watched a movie on Prime Video called “Jackpot”. It was a terrible movie but within 30 minutes I was invested in the final outcome so I watched it til the end. It was silly and an ok way to kill 90 minutes.

Tonight’s dinner was curry puffs made with the leftover chicken mix from the last two nights. I just added green curry powder to the mix and loaded up puff pastry triangles. They were delicious and I made a broccoli/strawberry salad and coleslaw to serve with it.

We played trivia before Thank God You’re Here came on.

Now I’m exhausted so it’s time to sleep.

Working Out

Diane Friedman, 103-year-old runner🏃‍♀️

Diane started running at 70 years old!

Her friends made fun of her, telling her that she was too old to play sports!

But Diane didn't pay attention to them. She continued training until she broke a few world records in the Senior Olympic Games in the 100-104-year-old age group!

100 metres - 36.71 seconds

200 metres - 1 minute and 29.78 seconds

She is great! Huge respect

I almost felt like a 103yr old woman as I started the hoop chi + exercise this morning!

My body is only used to my right arm throwing a ball … a LOT!

At 8am I walked into the hall for meditation and The Gypsy was sitting all alone. This is unusual because there are usually 3 or 4 people sitting in the room by the time I arrive.

Before I even sat down, 9 people walked in and filled the seats. That was weird.

It was a great class, even with a new male in the room who wanted to let us all know how clever he was. The Gypsy always knows how to gently handle newbies carrying a chip on their shoulder - it’s pretty to watch.

From there we transitioned to hoop chi exercise.

Except I was the only one in attendance, which worked out well because we practiced the routine for next week when we are assured of at least four others in the room.

It was great practicing my coordination, rhythm, stretching and movement. I know for sure that my rhythm and coordination need work!

Even though it was gentle movement, I could still feel my muscles quietly complaining.

No pain, no gain, right?

After class we sat under the shelter outside chatting for almost 2 hours.

I went to the supermarket afterwards, rode home, made a fruit smoothie, cooked my lunch and put my feet up for a while.

Played with Harley before making dinner.

Last nights leftover chicken mix with cayenne pepper and paprika added to it, then poured over penne pasta and toasted pine nuts sprinkled over the top, served with a salad.

Last nights chicken also had celery, capsicum, leeks, sweet potato, carrot, garlic, spring onions, baby spinach and mushrooms, home made chicken stock, some sour cream, whipping cream, salt, white pepper, fresh dill and a squeeze of half a lemon.

I put it in ramekins and topped with mashed potato and grated cheese, popped in a hot oven for 20 minutes.

Full of nutrients and deliciousness.

Adoring Husband was out all day at his specialist appointments in Brisvegas so BGWLBH and I played trivia without him.

He arrived home safe and sound at 7pm.

Coffee with the art/meditation girls tomorrow morning so it’s time for me to sleep now.

Super Slow Day

I cooked breakfast.

I played with Harley.

I edited some pics.

I drove into The Bay.

I shopped.

I cooked dinner because Adoring Husband forgot it was his turn to cook.

I watched The Voice.

I finished editing the pics. Here are a couple of them.

Today was ‘super slow’ day in town.

Every queue moved super slow, every service assistant worked super slow, every line of traffic was either slow or at a standstill and sometimes there was nobody to serve at all! It was super frustrating and made the day super long!

It’s almost midnight and I need to be up early for meditation.

AH has an appointment with his assigned Neurologist and Neurosurgeon in Brisvegas tomorrow so he’ll be leaving early too.

BGWLBH will have a peaceful morning home alone … well, with Harley.

Rested and Relaxed

Adoring Husband worked for the first half of today.

I got up late - after 9am - made breakfast for BGWLBH and played with Harley.

I made Canadian pancakes for myself - pancakes, bacon, fried banana and maple syrup.

Finally, I sat down to finish watching Cobra Kai.

I selected the Adam Sandler movie “Hustle” from Netflix, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Two games of footy to watch.

Disappointing that Wests Tigers spoiled my perfect round for the tipping. I got 28 points instead of 36. Not happy Jan - especially because I’ve been supporting Tigers all year and they disappointed me more often than not. Just when I needed them to lose, they bloody won!!!

😩

I napped on the couch during the last footy game but it made me feel lethargic and weak and I struggled to get up and cook dinner.

I did duck breast with spicy orange sauce, boiled potato in their jackets, zucchini, carrot and green beans.

We chose to watch the Logies tonight and it hasn’t been too bad, but it’s already gone 20 minutes over time and they still have a lot of Logies to present yet.

I think it’s time for me to sleep.
