Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

To Market

We arrived at Howard markets pretty close to 7am and found a parking space nice and close - which was a good thing because we had to offload our goodies 3 times!

We got:

  • some avocado oil hand and body lotion
  • some pure avocado oil
  • a bracelet for Chicklet which I’ll send with her next letter
  • 3 coloured concrete worms (yellow, purple and green) for the pool garden
  • a Hoya plant
  • 2 air plants
  • a plant similar to a chain of hearts
  • 5 mini succulents
  • a rattan bag
  • a pr of rainbow coloured overalls
  • a big bag of treats/goodies for Harley
  • HEAPS of fruit n veg including 3 pineapples (so sweet and juicy), a whole watermelon, dragon fruit, passionfruit, plums, grapes, apples, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, papaya and more.
  • Frozen mango cheeks
  • A mini poo bag holder
I think that’s all. I can’t remember.

There were so many dogs and their owners. I wish I’d taken Harley.

We started with take away coffee so that provided us with the energy to wander the markets for more than two hours and it was delicious!

We ran into a couple of people that we know and stopped for a brief chat.

Our plan was to go to Nikenbah markets on Sunday too but we found everything we needed at Howard so Sunday will probably be an art day for us instead.

When we arrived home, I unpacked everything, made bacon and eggs for BGWLBH and took Harley outside to play in the pool area for about an hour.

I prepared an early lunch and made myself comfortable for an afternoon of football.

I’ve only missed one game so far in the tipping comp!

I spent another 30 minutes playing with Harley before cooking dinner. We each had a different meal. I had 1/4 of a papaya. AH had crumbed fish with mash and stir fried vegetables and BGWLBH had chilli chicken with the same vegetables.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Early Rising

Harley woke me at 5.15am so I took him outside to pee and then brought him back to bed for 45 minutes. I wasn’t able to fall asleep but it was nice to just lie in silence and meditate for some of the time.

A nice way to start my day.

I sent Adoring Husband to the shop for some bacon and made bacon and eggs for BGWLBH and AH. I made French toast with banana, bacon and maple syrup for myself.

AH received a phone call providing a quote to repair his mower. It’s a LOT but hopefully we’ll get another couple of years out of it. It’s 14 years old so it’s served us well.

I spent some time with Harley in the pool area and after AH got back from his coffee date, BGWLBH and I drove into The Bay.

We had a list which took us about 3 hours to complete and we arrived home at 3.30pm.

I spent another hour with Harley playing soccer and fetch. We need a better quality soccer ball because his teeth have pierced the cheap one we have. He’s a great soccer player!

We had the usual Friday night fare for dinner.

We watched 2 games of footy. Auckland Warriors defeated Newcastle Knights by 8 points and my beloved Broncos defeated last years premiers, Penrith Panthers, by one point! What a game!

After 3 games, I’m leading the tipping comp.

Now it’s late and we are off to an early start tomorrow to visit Howard markets, so I’d best get some sleep.

Bad Dog!

When I got up to take Harley out this morning, Adoring Husband was draped on the couch in the family room. The same couch where I usually start my day having puppy cuddles.

So Harley gave AH morning cuddles instead and I decided to leave them to it and return to bed.

That was probably my first mistake.

The 2nd mistake was allowing him to swim in the pool and then locking him out of the house until he dried. He doesn’t like being locked out.

Harley, I’m certain, decided to find ways to punish me for the rest of the day.

He dug up three different plants out of their pots, found some paper towel and chewed it up in the back yard, peed ON the couch in the Bali hut (what the heck was THAT all about!?), stole a sock and dug his hole a bit deeper.

Everyone is cranky with Harley today.

I did some art today. Added a bit more to this one …

I watched my quiz shows and did NOT take a nap!

For dinner, crispy skinned chicken with a chilli pineapple sauce served with sweet potato chips and stir fried vegetables. I made a mushroom concoction but forgot to serve it so AH ate it while he cleaned up the kitchen.

We played trivia before the first NRL game of the season came on. Melbourne Storm defeated Parramatta Eels in a very close game that went into extra time.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Can You Believe It?

Covid experts now debunked

It’s already March! Can you believe it?

Thursday (2nd March) will be the 44th anniversary of Jamie’s death. Jamie was my first born and he died of SIDS in 1979 at the age of 16 weeks. A lifetime ago, but sometimes still very fresh and raw.

This morning, after a play with Harley and a swim in the pool, I cooked up some vegetables and mixed them with raw mince to make up meal packs to freeze for Harley.

I had just enough time to get ready for coffee date with the art girls. Harley was very happy to climb into the basket of the trike and ride along with me. He’s almost too big for the basket so I may need to rethink that.

There were only three of us in attendance but it was beautiful weather and the conversation flowed for just over an hour. One of us had to leave for work and one was heading into The Bay so Harley and I were home by 10.30am.

Adoring Husband had just arrived home from his trip into The Bay where he had dropped off the ride on lawn mower for repair and picked up his new ‘made to order’ ladder from Bunnings.

BGWLBH and I drove to pick up the FROG box from Craignish and did some local grocery shopping for lunch.

BGWLBH created a beautiful fruit platter with zucchini slice, sliced ham and a couple of dips with crackers, which was lovely.

She spent lots of time in the art space creating some lovely work.

I lay on the couch with Harley for a while and then joined AH in the lounge room to watch my quiz shows. I was a bit late for my nap and woke at 5pm just in time to cook dinner - honey, lemon chilli chicken with crunchy buttered beans, carrot, zucchini and bacon.

I didn’t eat dinner. I felt very dehydrated so I drank a LOT of filtered water instead.

It’s almost 11.30pm so I should be asleep.

Couldn’t Be Bothered

I just didn’t have the energy, motivation or desire to post here on Monday night, so I said to myself “Self, go to sleep. Don’t worry about the blog.”

So that’s exactly what I did.

BGWLBH and I had spent the day in The Bay and were exhausted.

Today was fun with Harley …

The three of us wore him out today. We took turns.

Nothing else happened today, apart from me crumbing a stack of chicken thighs for dinner and serving them with sweet potato chips, garden salad and a sweet and spicy dipping sauce.

Watched MAFS.

I’m struggling to keep my eyes open tonight so I’m off to sleep now.

Out Of It

Today was a wipe out.

I struggled to get out of bed this morning but Harley forced me to get up.

By 10.0am I was so exhausted I returned to bed and slept until almost 1pm.

I sat on the couch all afternoon watching Netflix movies.

I cooked a baked dinner with chicken.

I watched MAFS and Australian Idol.

That’s it.

I think, given the opportunity, I could have slept all day.

Such a blah day feeling so lethargic and unmotivated and uninspired.

I hope that tomorrow helps me find some renewed vim and vigour.
