Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Something Else

I have withdrawn from the mini novel writing course because the male who delivers the content sounds like Walt Disney’s Goofy and I just can’t take him seriously, nor can I focus on the important stuff.

So that’s two down.

I still have the art journaling course and I’ve just enrolled in the Creating Short Courses Online introductory course which starts next month.

Today I added a little more to my first art journal page …

I finished watching the Big Brother series.

I watched Sabalenka get beaten by Madison Keys in the women’s final of the Australian Open.

I watched the Australian women thrash the Brits in a T20 match.

It was ‘fend for yourself’ night so I didn’t have to cook.

I almost burnt the house down when I boiled Harleys vegetables until they blackened and burnt 😳

Oops

We had a massive storm last night. 35mm of torrential rain inside about 40 minutes. Wind that sounded like a freight train. Lightning and thunder.

I was concerned for a while but we survived.

Time to sleep now.

Nite all.

More Scribble

Tea and play with Harley, followed by a cup of leftover tuna mornay for breakfast.

I completed my vision board for this year …

Then added some more to my art journal pic from the other day …

Always good to start another page before you’ve finished the last one …

I started to watch the Djokovic vs Sverev match and was bitterly disappointed when Djokovic succumbed to the injury he acquired in his last match and withdrew from the tournament.

Devo.

I watched a couple of Big Brother episodes.

Adoring Husband cooked our usual chicken wings for dinner.

I’ve just watched the Sinner vs Shelton semi final. I didn’t mind who won, but Sinner is the victor this time.

Now I have to flip over to the cricket.

Nite all.

Too Hot

It was too hot to do anything today.

This is coming towards us as I type …

There have been warnings all afternoon.

Even though it’s still so far away, we can hear the thunder. There has been thunder all afternoon and the closest storm to us was more than 50kms away!

There was a ‘brownout’ about 15 minutes ago and it took a minute for the TV to come back to life. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come.

I made my bed for the 23rd day in a row 💁🏼‍♀️

Played with Harley twice.

Watched 4 episodes of Big Brother.

Cooked tuna mornay and served it with a garden salad for dinner.

Now I’m watching the women’s semifinal tennis between Sabalenka and Badosa.

Due to the heat today, Adoring Husband cancelled golf. Smart move.

The storm is playing havoc with the digital TV because it keeps coming up with a message “weak or no signal”.

Ugh 😩

I’m off to do some more art while I watch the tennis.

Scribbling

Petition for a Life (click here to sign)

I started a scribble last night.

It’s actually partially copied from some art I found online and I’ve added my own take. Still a way to go and there will be lots of colour to come and it’s part of my ‘art journaling’ routine.

Very therapeutic.

Number One Son started his new job on Monday and so far, is very happy. It’s only day three and he is still in inductions but he is Project Manager of Australia’s Nuclear Submarine Program. There may be international travel involved quite soon too.

I feel quite proud, because he has been through a lot with his mental health issues over the last 18 months or so. All things considered, this is quite an achievement.

Yesterday, I spent the morning doing meditation, followed by a swim and 3.5 hours chatting with The Gypsy under the Bali Hut.

It was lovely.

From there it went downhill when my belly became very angry. I ate tomato on toast for lunch and that didn’t go down well.

So I spent the afternoon in bed watching tennis and napping. At 5pm I asked Adoring Husband to cook leftover spaghetti bolognese for dinner for he and BGWLBH and I returned to bed.

After watching Djokovic defeat Alcaraz in the quarter final (YAY!!) I got a good solid nights sleep (I think the late nights of tennis May have caught up with me) and woke up feeling much better and quite energised.

I played with Harley, baked banana bread and made myself some curried egg which my body was craving!

I watched some more tennis, some more Big Brother and then made some chicken rolls filled with cream cheese, parsley, sun dried tomatoes and bacon.

I lay them on a bed of chopped potatoes and after they baked in the oven for 25 minutes, I spread the remaining cream cheese mixture over the top, sprinkled them with grated cheese and put them back in a hot oven for 20 minutes.

I served them on a bed of baby spinach with tomato wedges on the side.

Quite delicious.

This afternoon, I ordered a new Apple MacBook Pro.

All of my devices are old and failing. My apple desktop, my apple laptop and my apple iPad are all over 8-9 years old. They are well used and well loved and chockers full of my photos, courses and many many files.

Since I’ve taken up my photography again, I need a device that can handle the editing quickly and seamlessly. It’s a beauty and I can’t wait to receive it … in about a week.

Now I have to plan my next solo trip to the Sunny Coast!

Tonight was a disappointing anticlimax when the Aussie, Alex de Minaur, was convincingly defeated by the world number one, Jannik Sinner in three sets at the Australian Open.

Sydney Thunder defeated Melbourne Stars in the BBL.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Fresh Start

A new week.

Into The Bay again and I bought two more tops … the same as the lilac one that I bought on Friday. These are candy pink and the other is ivory.

We were home before 2pm.

In time to eat my piece of chocolate brownie cake that I got from Su Jus Cafe and sit down to some tennis.

Adoring Husband had a piece of carrot cake and BGWLBH had lemon drizzle cake.

I watched Sinner push through illness to win his match against Rune. I honestly thought he was going to collapse on court. He was trembling, losing his balance and often seemed disoriented. He had to be taken off court by medics for 11 minutes and they gave him some kind of injection.

He came good and in the end, won easily.

Right now, I’ve just watched Alex de Minaur win his match and he’s now in the quarter finals.

The Australian women thrashed England in the T20 ashes match.

Loving all this sport!

I baked potatoes in their jackets with coleslaw and sour cream, served with duck breast and blueberry chilli sauce.

It’s 10pm and feels like midnight so I’m ready for sleep.

Nite all.

What Now?

I’ve been brainstorming my next move in life.

Now I’m juggling lots of ideas like:

  • re-imagining my website and bringing it back to life
  • opening an ETSY store for my art or photography
  • starting art classes/groups from home
  • starting up a podcast for “over 60s” and discussing all the fun stuff that comes with ageing
  • creating an online course dealing with diet, health and wellness
  • organising weekend or week long art retreats locally
… and a couple of other vague ideas.

Lots to think about and research and figure out what is going to bring me the most joy.

I enjoyed a 3 hour ZOOM chat with The Gypsy this morning. We both discussed the possibilities for our futures.

Then, of course, it was tennis, tennis, tennis.

All of the matches were won quickly for varying reasons. The next round (quarter finals) will be epic!

I even squeezed in some cricket. Melbourne Stars defeated Hobart Hurricanes.

I made a quick spaghetti bolognese for dinner.

I attached my special art lamp to the bed head so now I can do art in bed …

It’s amazing and provides perfect light for doing anything creative.

I can’t believe it’s already after 11pm.

Time to sleep now.

Nite all.
