Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

An Unexpected Day

Well this is interesting …

Parkinson’s and golf courses

Today started out pretty shitty, with a disagreement that caused sadness and division and required some work and healing.

Ruth was my rescuer and I left the house for about an hour I guess. I ran into a couple of people and chatted with one of them for 15 mins and another for ten minutes, then pedalled to check out one of the new estates.

I was gobsmacked by how much our little town had grown … and not in a good way.

Small homes stacked closely together with poorly maintained yards and gardens, multiple cars parked in the front gardens and on the street and looking to me like unkempt rental properties. I was even a little afraid to go too far in to the area and I took a u turn to get out.

I rode for seven kilometres and even the back streets were busy enough to have me moving to ride on the concrete footpaths, instead of the road.

What started out as a leisurely and enjoyable ride, turned into a wish to leave the area. We are so lucky to live in an older section of town among neighbours who have been in the area for decades and who care for their properties and the people around them.

I was home by midday, made some lunch and plonked myself on the couch to watch an old James Stewart movie called “Winchester 73”, followed by a Rock Hudson/Gina Lollobrigida movie called “Come September”.

After that, I needed a nap. I only had 2 hours of sleep last night and I was feeling very weary.

With Harley snuggled by my side, I slept for 90 minutes.

A disappointing night of football with my beloved Broncos losing to the Titans. So far my only incorrect tip for the weekend.

Now I get to switch between the French Open tennis women’s final and the USPGA golf in Dublin, Ohio.

I doubt I’ll last long before I start racking up the 😴

Nite all.
