Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Witchiness

This is a powerful lesson…

A high school class is learning about the Salem Witch Trials. Their teacher told them they were going to play a game.

"I'm going to come around and whisper to each of you whether you're a witch or a regular person. Your goal is to build the largest group possible that does NOT have a witch in it. At the end, any group found to include a witch gets a failing grade."

The teens dove into grilling each other. One fairly large group formed, but most of the students broke into small, exclusive groups, turning away anyone they thought gave off even a hint of guilt.

"Okay," the teacher said. "You've got your groups. Time to find out which ones fail. All witches, please raise your hands."

No one raised a hand.

The kids were confused and told the teacher he'd messed up the game. "Did I?” He asked.

“Was anyone in Salem an actual witch? Or did everyone just believe what they'd been told?"

And that is how you show kids how easy it is to divide a Community.

Shunning, scapegoating, placing blame and dividing will each destroy far more than they will protect.

Don’t allow fear to cloud your decisions. Use your own discernment. Trust your heart…and your gut.

The best teachers will show you where to look, but they won’t tell you what to see.

I’ve had a reasonably productive day.

  • Cooked breakfast
  • Played with Harley
  • Did some art
  • Batched up the chicken broth to freeze
  • Chopped up and cooked the vegetables for Harley’s weekly meals
  • Made toasted sandwiches for everyone’s lunch
  • Mixed up and batched Harley’s food packs for the week and put them in the freezer
  • Baked banana bread
  • Napped for an hour
  • Slow baked some marinated pork ribs and served them with sweet potato chips and home made coleslaw
  • Played trivia
  • Watched the football
This is the continuation of a piece I started about 2 months ago - not one of my new ideas - I thought I should finish some old stuff before starting some new stuff.

Here is some of BGWLBH’s latest offerings …

I took Harley for a walk yesterday. His first walk in months and what a disaster! It was VERY windy and I hadn’t tied back my hair so I couldn’t see where I was going or what Harley was doing most of the time.

He wanted to chase every leaf that was blowing on the road and he is STRONG!

It was easy to get him to stop and sit but as soon as we started walking again, he was a bit manic. The harness did not help at all so I’m going to have to use the special leash (Cesar Milan brand) that I bought ‘just in case’ when I first got Harley.

It’s my own fault for leaving it so long and now I’m going to have to make a concerted effort to train him properly on the leash.

BGWLBH and I drove into The Bay yesterday. She had a birthday voucher from The Boat Club so we decided on morning tea there.

When we put our keno tickets on, there was a promotion and for every $10 you spent, you got a ticket to zip open. There was either a prize inside or a section to complete your details and go into a draw for further prizes.

BGWLBH opened all her tickets (4) and won nothing. I opened my two tickets and won a Phillips air fryer (the top prize on the table) and a phone wallet! The air fryer is valued at over $400!

A fruitful morning.

We might get some rain tonight. At least the weather has warmed up significantly. It’s gone from 6°C minimum to 12°C minimum. Much easier to get out of bed in the mornings.

Time for me to sleep now.

Nite all.
