Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Day 204 in a Year of my Life

Sad news.

When I was about 8 yrs old, I was introduced, through the movies, to the delightful singing voice of an actress by the name of Deanna Durbin ...

If you'd like to hear some snippets of her singing, go to this link and there are a number of tracks that you can hear a small selection of...

... even when I was 8, her voice brought tears to my eyes.  I have a few of her old movies on dvd and when I watch them, I'm taken back in time to my childhood, and I am totally mesmerised by Deanna.

She lived to the ripe old age of 91.

I think that I might watch one of her movies tomorrow, to pay my last respects.

Today I'm grateful for happy childhood memories that gave me dreams of becoming Deanna Durbin.

Alas, by my teens, and thanks to good old fashioned tape recorders, I played back a self recorded version of me singing Olivia Newton John's "I Honestly Love You" and was horrified to discover that Deanna Durbin, I would NEVER be.

Nite all.

I hadn't heard that she'd died. I used to love her movies when I was little, but I haven't watched one in years. Maybe I should dig one out too.

I didn't get a chance to watch one today Kellie - definitely tomorrow. I hope you find one to watch! It's nice to know that you remember her too. I don't know many who do - even of the older generation.

I was reading how, before she retired, she was actually the 2nd highest paid actress in Hollywood. Her career only spanned 6 yrs - 1936 to 1942 I think.
