Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Surprise not Surprise

Adoring Husband, mistakenly thinking that tomorrow (Wednesday), was my birthday, asked BGWLBH to keep me occupied for the day so that he could make me a birthday cake.

We drove into the bay and wasted 3 hours.

We arrived home to find a square double decker chocolate/vanilla cake sandwiched with fresh cream and topped with chocolate icing.

Only one problem.

He used the cream that I had in the fridge which was a week past its use by date!

Also, he realised that my birthday isn’t until Thursday and the cake certainly wouldn’t be fresh by then and the cream especially would be even more questionable 🤨

So this is the checklist of waste for the day:

  • Three hours in the bay
  • Fuel for a return trip into the bay
  • One trip to the local shops for cake mixes
  • Two new square cake tins
  • One vanilla cake mix
  • One chocolate cake mix
  • 4-6 eggs
  • One bottle of lactose free cream
  • Ninety minutes preparation and cooking time in the kitchen
  • One double decker chocolate/vanilla cake now in the trash
  • One surprise birthday cake which is now no longer a surprise
I need to state that I appreciate the sentiment and the effort behind AH’s gesture. It’s a big deal and I love that he wants to do this for me 🥰

Little Hazie received the second of my three parcels today …

One more parcel to turn up.

Leftover chicken schnitzel with coleslaw, potato salad and garden salad for dinner.

I bought two sand crabs today and shelled them this afternoon. My dinner was fresh crab meat on fresh sour dough bread. I was channeling my Dad - it was our favourite food to eat together. This year will be 29 yrs since he passed. Wow.

Now it’s time for me to sleep.

Nite all.
