Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Still Motivated

I tidied up some loose ends after my cleaning frenzy on Thursday because I’d left a few items in the hallway outside the bedroom so I decluttered, tossed a lot and found new homes for the rest.

I pulled apart my pedestal fan, cleaned it and put it back together.

More decluttering of the wardrobe, all of which I will attempt to sell at the markets tomorrow. Some I’ve never worn, most I’ve worn just once and all good quality.

I spent the afternoon pricing the clothes and filling my market box with things that I plan on selling.

BGWLBH has her art all packed in the car to sell and Adoring Husband has filled the car with our tables and the gazebo and other paraphernalia.

The weather is going to be cloudy and windy. Let’s hope there’s no rain!

Now I need to make a list of things I need to remember in the morning, like taking the square reader off the charger, water, snacks, hat, sunglasses etc.

Need a decent nights sleep so …

High Motivation

Today was very productive.

I was up at 8am.

Made my cup of tea to take out to the pool area with Harley, where we played until 9am.

I decided on prawn dumplings for breakfast.

Before he left for golf, I watched The Great Pottery Throwdown and The Great Australian Bake off finale with Adoring Husband.

As he left, I made my way into my bedroom with the vacuum cleaner. Like a good removalist, I took everything out of the room (except the bed, the side tables and dressing table) so that I had a completely clear floor to get on my hands and knees and vacuum with the hose only.

The combination of Harley hair and my hair in the carpet was a nightmare! It took a while.

I then washed the inside of the six windows followed by washing the plantation shutters.

I emptied out the four side table drawers, washed them out, decluttered and then swapped them over - I am changing to the other side of the bed and putting Harley in the opposite corner of the room so that I have easier access to my ensuite.

I washed my very large bedside lamps.

The previous day, I sorted through my journals. I have two shoe boxes of unused journals and two boxes of journals currently in use …

All of the jobs today took three hours.

I got to watch half of my quiz shows, took Harley out to play in the rain for 20 minutes and came inside to prepare dinner - nice and easy nachos made with turkey mince.

The new series of British Sewing Bee started tonight and when that finished, I could hear my bed calling.

I’m certainly feeling weary.

Huge Day

My ‘to do’ list did not reduce in size today.

I spent most of the day with The Gypsy, starting with meditation, hoop qi gong and then four hours under the shelter outside the hall.

I rode home at 2.20pm feeling mentally and physically exhausted.

Food was my priority because I’d only had 600ml of water all day, so I mashed up some avocado, tuna, lemon juice, salt and pepper and grabbed a handful of GF Jatz. It took the edge off my hunger.

Next, Harley got my attention for some play time.

For dinner I cooked up some capsicum, celery, shallots, finely diced carrot, diced mushroom and chopped up leftover roast chicken meat. I added the chicken juices from when I roasted the chicken, garlic paste and crème fraiche, then wrapped it all in GF puff pastry.

I didn’t eat dinner and Adoring Husband did NOT go back for seconds so I’m guessing it wasn’t to his liking. I’ll taste the leftovers tomorrow.

We watched the MKR final after dinner. The predicted winners won.

Right now, I’m watching my guilty pleasure. Love Island.

Definitely need to get some sleep now.

Two More

Surprisingly, I crossed two more items off my ‘to do’ list today.

I’ve mentioned it before, but to remake my bed after washing everything - two sheets, six pillow cases, two body pillow cases and a coverlet - takes 35 minutes. It is utterly exhausting!

My king sized mattress weighs a freaking ton and the bed frame fits snugly around it, so I have to squeeze my hands between the frame and mattress to attempt lifting it high enough to tuck the sheets under it.

I almost busted my fufu valve!

Two of my pillows are very thick memory foam and trying to slip pillowcases over them is like putting on a pair of spanks two sizes too small. It’s a struggle.

Body pillows are also a struggle.

I just needed to announce it loudly to the household when I’d finally finished!

Adoring Husband suggested that I call for his help next time, which is a lovely gesture, but it would take longer if he assisted.

I’m getting too old for this $#1t!

In between hanging wet washing, folding clean washing, making the bed, partially decluttering my wardrobe and playing with Harley twice, I also coloured in and watched plenty of TV.

AH put some effort into a lasagne for dinner tonight. It was from a 1970s Women’s Weekly recipe book and quite delicious.

Meditation and hoop qi gong tomorrow, so I’d best get some sleep in my lovely clean bed.

A Start

There are 17 things on my ‘to do’ list.

Today, I did one of them.

It’s a start.

I slept well last night. It made up for the lack of sleep on Friday night.

Adoring Husband and I watched two movies today. “Upgraded” which I enjoyed and “Puppy Love” which  was ok.

I cooked a whole chicken tonight and served it with coleslaw, a strawberry and broccoli salad, a pumpkin, spinach and pine nut salad and fried rice.

That filled everyone up.

The weather is very warm.

The pool water is delightful.

I’m ready to sleep.

Stormy Night

I am exhausted.

At 2am I woke to the sound of a massive storm with rain so heavy, I thought it might be hail. I could hear the wind as the rain stopped and started and I could hear the rain hitting other house rooftops, getting louder as it got closer to us.

There was thunder and lightning and our rain gauge showed 110mm.

There was clear evidence in the back yard of minimal flooding with a line of bark chips over the pathway showing the flow of water and a fairly deep hole under one of our down pipes where, obviously, the volume of water on the roof was far too big for the gutters and down pipes to cope.

The pool was full to the brim and the furniture under the Bali hut was still damp 4 hours after the weather had cleared.

I lay awake, unable to return to dreamland, until almost 5am. All up, I estimate that I enjoyed 2.5 hours of sleep. One hour pre-storm and 1.5 hours post-storm.

I napped on the couch while watching a movie “King Arthur. Legend of the Sword”. This was a recommendation from BGWLBH but I didn’t enjoy it.

My second movie was “The Idea of You” with Anne Hathaway. I didn’t mind that one. It was light and fluffy, a bit of romance, a bit of drama, a bit of fun and no brain work required.

‘Fend for yourself’ night and I crumbed some snapper for myself. This morning, I crumbed some prawns and shallow fried them for breakfast. I also enjoyed 2 Bowen mangos. Fresh, sweet and juicy. So delicious.

I made my ‘to do’ list last night but without sleep, I didn’t have the energy to start work on it. Hopefully, after a good sleep tonight, I’ll get started tomorrow.

Right now, I’m lying in bed watching the T20 cricket match between Australia and Pakistan. It’s close.

I think I’ll put the timer on because I feel that I’ll be asleep very soon.

It’s Time

Two trips into The Bay in two days.

BGWLBH had an appointment in town yesterday and then needed to follow up today.

We did another big shop yesterday. Meat, vegetables and supermarket plus bread, seafood and lotto. We also ran an errand for Adoring Husband yesterday, but he didn’t give us the right information so we had to return and exchange the goods today.

I’m feeling a bit tired tonight and my joints are aching like an old person’s … oh wait … I AM an old person!

Tonight, when I’ve finished this post, I’m going to make a “to do” list.

I have so many chores that I need to do and want to complete, but my procrastination skills have reached their highest potential and I just never get anything done. Now I am at the point where I am overwhelmed with the number of things that require my attention.

I figure that if I make a list, I can set myself a timeline of couple of weeks and systematically work my way through the list.

That should be less overwhelming.

Once I’m done, I’ll feel like I’ve earned time to play with some art. I miss my art, but I feel too guilty about what I SHOULD be doing as a priority.

My head/mind/brain is very complex and complicated.

Anyway, time for me to get started on that list.

Lifestyle Heaven

I love these quiet, peaceful and uneventful days.

Adoring Husband and I watched a few Taskmaster episodes from the New Zealand series and the UK series.

It was AH’s turn to cook. I didn’t eat, but he prepared lamb loin chops with salad for he and BGWLBH.

There have been storm warnings since lunch time, but they’ve all stayed south of us. It’s eerie listening to the thunder in the distance. I heard a few spits on the roof earlier but it lasted all of 20 seconds.

I’ve coloured in a few pics.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Regular Tuesday

I feel like I’ve been run over by a Mack truck.

Hoop Qi Gong was quite a bit more high movement than usual and I put my all into it. I’m getting too old for this s#/t!

I must say it was very enjoyable moving to the music and finding the beat and the rhythm with the hoop. I just need to pace myself.

Meditation was a great class.

No chatting with The Gypsy afterwards because she was committed elsewhere, so I rode home earlier than usual and made myself a cup of tea to accompany last nights cheesecake. Yum.

While sitting on the couch, I could feel my muscles and joints starting to seize up and ache. I think a nice swim in the morning might help stretch the muscles and ease the aches and pains.

I had a very brief nap on the couch, abruptly ended by Harley jumping on me to cuddle and then try to convince me to take him out to play.

Bangers, leftover mash and salsa for dinner.

An hour of trivia.

MKR. My guilty pleasure - Love Island.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Baking Day

Look at this plant with EIGHT flowers blooming! It seems to be very happy where it is.

This morning, after playing with Harley, I decided to bake a cheesecake. Lemon and blueberry. I didn’t have all the ingredients, or enough of the ingredients that I DID have, so I improvised and it turned out quite delicious!

I watched a great movie today on Prime Video called “My Old Ass”. I loved it. I cried, but it was also uplifting. Another movie on Netflix called “Meet Me Next Christmas” which I also enjoyed.

So it was another quiet, relaxing day. I did some more colouring in …

Now it’s time to sleep. Meditation tomorrow.

Weekend Delight

It’s been a quiet weekend.

Went nowhere.

Did nothing.

Saw nobody.

Adoring Husband had a coffee date on Saturday morning.

BGWLBH has a sore throat but has still produced a lot of art.

I played with Harley, watched TV and cooked.

Looking forward to a good nights sleep.
