Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Change of Date

Dr McCullough (interesting interview)

DBS date has changed to 22nd May to give us some breathing room for all the ‘things’ we need to plan.

Nothing to report except Best Cousin in the World came to visit yesterday and as always, it was a great visit. She brought a freshly baked sour dough loaf that she had baked that morning …

… and a handful of lovely essential oils for Harley and for me.

She also gifted me a sourdough starter so that I can make my own bread! I can’t wait.

It is currently absolutely PELTING down rain as I write this. I can hardly hear myself think!

Now it’s time to sleep.

Date is Set

DBS is set for 1st May.

There is paperwork galore.

Plans to be made.

Accommodation to be booked.

Transport to be planned.

Funds to be found.

I had a day in The Bay today.

Twisted my ankle outside Nana’s Pantry. I had a big glass bottle of Castor Oil in each hand and as I fell forward I had to avoid the concrete blocks that stop cars from parking on the footpath.

Luckily BGWLBH was there to soften my fall. I did not break the bottles or damage my body in any way, but it gave both of us a hell of a fright!

My sunglasses flew off and slid under the car.

I survived.

We attempted to have breakfast at Aquavue because we know they have new owners, but we discovered that their kitchen was closed for the day.

It was a very busy morning for us, we finished with a juice from Su Jus cafe and were home well before 2pm - just in time to receive an important phone call from a member of Adoring Husbands surgical team.

The next hour was filled with the phone call, filling out paperwork and listening to AH yabber on about everything.

Now I need to sleep.

Crabby

Adoring Husband had an optometrists appointment in the Bay today so I cashed him up and requested (if he was feeling strong and healthy enough) that he head over to Urangan and purchase two bags of crab meat from the fresh seafood place.

He was kind enough (and strong and healthy enough) to do exactly that for me and I was able to enjoy a fresh crab meat sandwich for lunch.

AH has ordered some new glasses and apparently has signs of cataracts.

I’d give you a list of all of his ailments and problems but I want to finish this post before midnight and you have better things to do. Haha.

I folded a lot of washing and handed my ironing to BGWLBH.

Tacos and nachos for dinner.

I’m feeling a bit weary now.

Less Rest

I am almost up to date with my washing.

There is one footy jumper, one rainbow jumpsuit, two silk tops and a blue cover all remaining. All but the footy jumper require hand washing.

I didn’t get to my art space and watched a Miley Cyrus movie instead.

There was Harley play.

Roast lamb, baked vegetables and home made gravy for dinner.

For a late breakfast I made myself some pork and cabbage rice paper rolls fried in olive oil. They were so good, I ate seven of them with sweet chilli dipping sauce.

Adoring Husband was out for five hours mowing lawns for work.

We watched the footy this afternoon.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Three Days

From Australia’s Senator Rennick …

“The sea level rise experienced in recent decades was supposed to lead to shrinking shorelines and inundated coasts. Instead, satellite observations reveal the globe’s island coasts expanded seaward (net) by 402 km² (155 mi²) since 2000. [emphasis, links added]

In a new study, over 13,000 islands were assessed for coastal change over the last three decades (1990-2020).

Only 12% of these islands experienced significant shoreline change during this period. Thus, approximately 88% of the islands had stable coasts − neither substantial erosion nor accretion.

About 6% of these 13,000+ islands experienced coastline expansion (accretion), while 7.5% lost coastal land area (erosion).

The scientists point out that for the islands experiencing coastal erosion in recent decades, sea level rise was not a primary or predominant causal factor. This is “contrary to initial assumptions.”

Another day, another climate change lie exposed.

Big day.

Adoring Husband has decided to have DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) surgery and it will probably happen in the next 3-4 weeks.

We drove down to Brisbane and spoke with the Parkinson’s professor on Thursday. He described the surgery and we asked all the pro vs con questions.

Basically, they will drill a hole in AH’s skull, shove a wire into a specified spot, which will then be be threaded between his scalp and his skull, down into his chest and will be attached to a battery pack in his chest. That will be wifi connected to an app on his phone as well as connected to the Professor’s computer so that he can monitor and adjust if necessary.

30% of surgeries result in the patient no longer requiring medication.

30% result in reducing medication to half a tablet three times a day (AH currently has one full tablet six times a day)

30% result in no changes in medication, but the tremor stops.

10% result in no success at all.

He will have to be in Brisbane for ten days. Five days in hospital and five days for monitoring.

It’s a big deal and we are aiming for best case scenario.

No more tremor, no more drugs, no more muscle tightness and no more slow movements.

He will be able to comfortably plan his days in advance and know that his body won’t let him down.

We left home at 7am and returned at 5pm.

BGWLBH had prepared a bunch of salads, which was very helpful, and all I had to do was cook the protein.

It was an early night for us because we were exhausted!

On Friday BGWLBH and I went into The Bay for fruit and vegetables among other things.

Today is Saturday and I have rested on the couch all day, watching my recorded shows and three games of football.

AH mowed the lawns and then fell asleep in his chair.

Tomorrow is Sunday and I hope to do my washing and maybe squeeze in some art.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Our Day

When we are young, we want to look older.

And when we are old, we want to look younger.

And there is a window in the middle of it all when we’re supposed to look as we wish.

But we waste that time wishing

we were taller or thinner or curvier,

our hair was longer or shinier, curlier,

parts of our body were firmer and perkier

and we’d started to use anti-wrinkle cream earlier.

And by the time we realise we were perfect just as we were,

the window has closed. It is too late.

Too late to realise that all those things never really mattered in the first place.

But it’s never too late to start letting go.

To stop wanting, stop wishing.

It’s never too late to accept yourself.

To look in the mirror and realise that all along, you never needed to look older or younger or anything else.

You just needed to look like you.

Becky Hemsley 2023

Spent the day in The Bay.

Purchased five tops and two bottoms. Got two Christmas gifts. Fruit, veg and dog bones. Lotto tickets.

Late home.

Lamb loin chops and vegetables for dinner.

Time to sleep because tomorrow we are driving to Brisbane to see the Parkinson’s professor regarding Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for Adoring Husband.

Big day.

Timed Out

Aust govt pays for funerals of Covid 19 vaccine deaths

I rode my trike to enjoy a four hour session with The Gypsy today. The weather was just right for riding and for a change, there was no wind to hinder my progress.

She gifted me a yin Yang wind chime to hang under the Bali hut. It was to thank me for supporting her through her relationship breakdown and it’s lovely, as was the beautiful card she paired it with.

I’m looking forward to giving her “fresh start, new beginnings” gift after she settles into her new unit.

I arrived home with enough time to send Adoring Husband to the butcher for dinner meat, to play with Harley and prepare the vegetables. Barbecued bangers (by AH), mashed potato and sweet potato, beans, snow peas, carrots and peppered, garlic mushroom gravy.

Now I’m feeling mentally tired so it’s time to sleep.
