Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

It’s Mighty Wet

It has been raining since about 3pm..

It is very steady and sometimes heavy enough that I need to raise the volume on the TV.

Harley and I came into the bedroom at about 1.30pm and after some colouring in on my app, I decided to nap. It only lasted 20 minutes but was just what I needed.

There was a 15 minute break in the rain at about 4.15pm which Harley and I took advantage of and I tossed the ball around the pool for a while.

Just as he was ready to jump in the pool, I called out “no” and he stopped. I said “Let’s go get your bone” and we left the pool area.

He’s a good dog.

While he chewed his bone, I climbed back into bed until Adoring Husband called me for dinner - the usual Friday night fare.

There’s nothing nicer than listening to the rain while snuggled down in bed. Day time or night time.

After dinner, we all played trivia for a while and I came back to bed at 7.30pm and have been journaling tonight.

BGWLBH and I had big plans for the markets and shopping tomorrow morning (Saturday) but I think the rain will put an end to that. The forecast is not good.

But I will get some sleep, just in case.

Nite all.

End of Year

Wednesday was very quiet.

Adoring Husband made hamburgers for dinner and we watched the India vs Aussies one day women’s cricket match.

Today was an earlier than usual start for me because I was meeting my old art/meditation girls for our last coffee date for the year.

We all brought a plate, so there were Tim Tams, cheese and jatz, GF Christmas mince pies, vege sushi, GF profiteroles, GF lemon tart and GF cherry ripe slice.

I rode my trike and stopped at Foodworks for coffee on the way.

I provided the tablecloth and paper towels.

We all sat around chatting and laughing and judging and sharing rumours and gossiping for two hours.

It was a fun morning and we all decided to meet early in the new year for an art gathering.

The weather was very mild. It started out a bit windy with strong gusts, but after about half an hour, the wind eased and we were very comfortable. The cloud cover and soft breeze kept the temperature down, which is unusual for this time of year.

I was home just after 11am, just in time to say goodbye to AH as he went off for his golf day.

I had a very pleasant afternoon with my bestie - Harley - and for dinner I cooked cayenne meatballs on a bed of tzatziki served with Parmesan zucchini discs, sweet potato chips and a dressed garden salad. It was quite delicious and I even sat down to eat!

It’s now midnight and I need to sleep.

Feeling Inspired

Late this afternoon I was feeling inspired to finish one of my artworks.

Unfortunately, it was almost 5pm so I had to choose between dinner or art. Since two other people were involved, I had to choose dinner.

It was an easy dinner but by the time I’d finished, all the good light had gone and I can’t do art by artificial light at night.

So the inspiration has passed and I doubt it will be there in the morning, although I will look for it!

It was another nothing day really.

No productivity.

Just Harley play and Netflix.

No news is good news.

One Question

How, in heaven’s name, do families afford to live?

Today, I spent $460 in Coles and Farm Gate (Fruit and Veg). For three of us.

That did NOT include any meat!

And it didn’t include costly things like toilet paper, coffee, biscuits/crackers, bread, soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant etc.

What must it cost for a family???

How difficult must it be for the unemployed?

No wonder there are so many people who are homeless.

This is where I express my overwhelming gratitude for a roof over my head, food in my fridge and pantry, clothes on my back, money in my bank account and family who love me.

I purchased a couple of small Christmas gifts and treats for Harley.

It was an expensive day!

On top of that, my body feels like I’ve run a marathon OR been hit by a bus - not that I’ve ever experienced either of those things, but this is how I imagine it would feel.

My muscles and joints are aching and stiff. My skin feels very sensitive to touch and I feel very lethargic.

I hope I’m not coming down with something.

Thankfully, Adoring Husband cooked a roast lamb and vegetables for dinner, which was healthful and delicious and meant I didn’t have to cook!

Now I need to sleep and hopefully wake up tomorrow, feeling more refreshed.

Making a List

Made a list.

Checking it twice.

Got a big day planned for tomorrow with a long ‘to do’ list.

Food and gifts mostly.

Today was a quiet, relaxing Sunday.

Lots of Harley play.

Fresh prawns for breakfast.

Fluffy Netflix movie, test cricket and women’s one day match between Australia and India. Aussies won both cricket matches.

I cooked fish for dinner.

We played trivia.

I’ve been journaling tonight and now it’s time to sleep.

Cutting it Fine

I still haven’t finished Christmas shopping.

Some small purchases were made today, but not enough.

There is still Monday and we plan on doing the markets on Saturday next week. Of course, there is always online shopping but the shipping time makes it a bit tight.

I feel a little bit stressed.

We did a little fruit and veg shopping, lotto, bread and fresh seafood.

There was not a lot of traffic and crowds were nonexistent, which surprised us because it’s so close to Christmas.

Still idiots on the road though.

It was “fend for yourself” night for dinner so I made myself crumbed prawn cutlets with a delicious dipping aioli.

Adoring Husband and I watched the cricket tonight and came to bed at 8.30pm.

Now I need to sleep.

Still Nothing

I slept poorly.

It was 1am the last time I looked at the clock.

Some time during the night I woke with a start, but fell back to sleep fairly quickly.

At 6.02am I woke again with a start, to the sound of one of Adoring Husband’s explosive sneezes. He was sitting in the lounge room which is right outside my bedroom door.

I was NOT happy.

I got up to pee and he called out “Good morning!”

I ignored him.

😡

It was not a happy way to start the day.

I made my cup of tea and played with Harley.

Came inside and made up a concoction of 5 boiled eggs, butter, salt, white pepper, 2 shallots, curry powder, coleslaw dressing, shredded lettuce and chilli tuna (the good stuff from northern QLD).

I spread it over two pieces of toast and it was bloody beautiful!

In front of the TV for a few hours watching The Great Pottery Throwdown, a fluffy Netflix movie and the test cricket between Australia and India.

We stopped the cricket for an hour to play trivia, then back to the cricket. It’s now 8.15pm and I’m ready to sleep.

Nite all.

Life As Is

Nothing to report.

Played with Harley.

Watched BGWLBH do the ironing.

Reheated leftover bangers and mash for my breakfast.

Lay on my bed for an hour colouring in on the Zen app.

Watched TV.

Made apple strudels with coconut milk custard for dessert (I ate TWO!)

Baked sweet potato in their jackets, topped them with Malay lamb curried mince and served with papadums for dinner.

Played trivia til 8pm.

Watched Love Island.

Now watching “Last Christmas” while laying in bed.

Time to sleep.

3 Weeks to Chrissy

I got to sleep in on Tuesday morning. There is no meditation or hoop qi gong until the end of January now because the hall is not available until sometime around 21st January.

When BGWLBH realised I was home for the day, she invited me into town with her because she had a doctor’s appointment, but I declined her offer because I just wanted a slow start to my day.

By the time I started my day, she had already left, so I made my cup of tea, played with Harley and then made myself some bacon and eggs for breakfast.

Lots of lazy time in front of the TV watching my favourite shows and fluffy Netflix movies with Adoring Husband.

We hopped online and ordered Hazie a ride on Fire truck for Christmas.

For dinner, I made roast pumpkin and spinach salad with fried haloumi and pine nuts and fig infused balsamic dressing. Honey, lime and garlic chicken thighs.

Today was a similar day.

Harley play. Avocado and chilli tuna on toast for breakfast.

TV.

I helped AH make bangers and mash with green beans and home made gravy.

Trivia.

Now I’m ready for sleep.
