Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Sung to the tune of 'Happy Birthday' and in my very best Operatic Soprano singing voice!

In honour of your birthday (knowing how disappointed you are in the fact that I use your real name here instead of a nickname), I now dub thee ... *drum roll*

"Sparkles" due to your beautiful sparkling eyes.

Lef to right - Hopalong, Sparkles, Lady Lynn and Bev4now
So ... it was Sparkles' birthday today!  Quite a large group of us congregated at the Lions Park for a birthday barbecue.

I was in charge of the birthday cake because Sparkles and I are both gluten free and therefore we have easier access to good gluten free recipes.

This is a very old recipe that I haven't even used for over twenty years, long before I became aware of my gluten intolerance.

It was more delicious than I remember!

Almost all of the dishes were gluten free and every one of them were mouth wateringly (I think I just made that word up) good!

Our friends are so wonderful to put such an effort into providing nice food to meet our dietary requirements on occasions like this.  It's usually difficult at social events, but they go out of their way for us and today, that's what I am grateful for.  Thank you friends :)

Nite all.
