Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Ugh and Blurgh

I am currently in the throes of the second phase of a parasite cleanse.

The protocol is two weeks (starting two days before full moon, because that’s when parasites lay their eggs) of taking the wormwood/black walnut/clove capsules 3 x daily. Then two weeks off. Follow this routine for three months.

I’ve had two weeks taking the capsules, two weeks off and now two weeks taking the capsules again.

The detox symptoms are brutal and this second phase is worse than the first fortnight.

Symptoms include abdominal cramps, joint pain, bloating and wind, diarrhoea, nausea, lethargy, muscle cramps, brain fog and mood swings.

Ugh 😩

Once those symptoms pass, you feel energised, lighter, stronger, clear headed, supple, younger and happier.

It takes three months to flush everything out completely, but it may take me longer because I’m a sook and stopped taking the capsules after five days in this second round. Maybe when I’ve flushed more out and the detox symptoms ease a bit, I might be able to handle the entire two weeks again.

Parasites don’t like pumpkin seeds or powdered pawpaw seeds or black seed oil or oregano oil.

I’ve started adding organic pumpkin seeds to my smoothies.

I tell you this story because yesterday (Sunday) was my worst day and I really struggled. I slept for 2.5 hours in the afternoon and kept a vomit bucket beside the bed ‘just in case’.

Luckily, today was better, because I spent the day in The Bay. I had to sit down a few times but it was better than yesterday.

It was Adoring Husband’s turn to cook dinner. He cooked lamb cutlets on the barbecue and served them with roasted vegetables and cauliflower and broccoli. Very healthful and delicious.

On Sunday night, I cooked Orange Honey Chilli Chicken with potato and sweet potato mash, steamed beans and carrots.

For dessert I poached whole pears in water, coconut sugar, star anise, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, nutmeg, clove and orange peel. I served them with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and salted caramel dairy free ice cream.

So much food!

I have meditation tomorrow so it’s time to sleep now.

Orchid Beauty

After breakfast at Arkarra Tea Gardens this morning, BGWLBH and I visited the orchid show …

The winning orchids were spectacular but the winning varieties were difficult, if not impossible to find ‘for sale’. That was disappointing.

I bought a jar of tiny orchid plants that will take a long time to grow and flower. That’s ok.

I am currently in bed watching Roosters thrash Manly in the elimination final. The score is 34-4 but there is still 23 minutes left of the game and anything can happen in finals footy.

I’m feeling a bit nauseas tonight so I need to sleep and wake up refreshed and vibrant tomorrow.

Too Awake!

Even with absolute exhaustion, I could not, for the life of me, fall asleep last night.

That bloody coffee that Adoring Husband made for us at 2.30pm was the culprit! I KNOW that I shouldn’t have caffeine after midday!

My legs were restless and I could feel the muscles in my lower body struggling to relax. My brain was hyped up, not thinking about anything in particular, just alert to every movement and every sound.

It was 4.30am when I finally slumbered, but only for two hours, so I was very discombobulated all day today.

I played with Harley, cleared off my desk, which was the last job that had to be done in the art space and I put my “Happy Place” sign on the cupboard door.

I spent a lot of time sitting in the retro chairs, relaxing and thinking about possible art projects.

I did my Friday Falafel for Vegan Chickie.

I watched the movie “Uglies” which I liked.

Nothing else.

I was falling asleep on the couch at 7pm so I came to bed. Now it’s 10pm and I’m not feeling tired!

I am going to turn off the light, close my eyes and wait for the sweet drift of deep sleep.

3 x 6 Hours

I am absolutely and completely exhausted!

As are Adoring Husband and BGWLBH.

Today, it took three of us six hours to clear and rearrange my art studio. I decided, after the new glass doors were installed, that a fresh clean start was what I needed to get back into my creativity. A new look with lots of natural light and a better flow was needed.

We tossed three bags of rubbish and two mini bins of recycle rubbish - which, all things considered, isn’t too bad!

We reconfigured the layout and now it just seems more spacious, with a better flow and better energy.

Not quite finished yet, just a few loose ends to tidy up, but we love it.

Every bone, every joint and every muscle in our bodies are aching tonight and we are dreading the possible pain that we will be suffering after a good nights sleep!

We moved almost every piece of furniture, emptied out drawers and rearranged them in the cube unit, moved my desk and the side cabinet.

We took the big floor mats out and shook them before replacing them in a different direction and turned the tables 90°.

We moved the big storage boxes into a corner, cleared and rearranged the top of the cube units, removed the tea/coffee area (because we’ve never actually used it for that purpose) and added another table to hold the resources that we use regularly.

After we moved the tables, there was enough space to make a little sitting area to have tea/coffee and watch the world go by. I’m glad I kept the old retro lounge chairs from the shop. They look cool and are very comfy.

There’s a big palm tree across the road that sounds wonderful when the wind blows and today we had a lovely breeze blowing through the screen doors.

As BGWLBH stated “We should be well pleased with our efforts!”

Adoring Husband was both a help and a hindrance. There was much yelling and swearing by me - deservedly so!

He made us good coffee when we’d finished and went to order and pick up takeaway for dinner which BGWLBH shouted.

I doubt that I could have mustered the energy to cook.

There has been a lot of grunting, gasping, moaning and groaning this evening and we’ve all retired to bed early.

I’m looking forward to some quality time in the new art space over the weekend.

Too Everything

I may have overdone it today.

I had to pedal right across town to meditation.

The usual location is booked out on this date every year, so we either cancel meditation, or, like today, move somewhere else.

Today we moved across town to the park with the chapel frame, that sits right on the beach. There are paper bark trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, grevillea and more scattered throughout the park providing lots of shade and places for all types of birds to play.

I saw kookaburras nesting in a hole in one of the trees!

The weather was glorious with a soft breeze blowing through the leaves, scattered clouds floating across the sky and the tide was high but on its way out so the rhythmic sound of water lapping onto the sand while we meditated was so relaxing.

We did hoop qi gong afterwards. The weather was warming up and lots of people with children (it’s school holidays) started walking through the park and onto the beach.

As usual, I was doing my own thing with the extra tricks and moves that The Gypsy showed me, before she began instructing the others. I’m surprised every week, at how much trouble the others are having with their timing and coordination. I think they are so worried about not ‘getting’ it, that it affects their confidence and abilities.

The Gypsy and I sat for two hours chatting afterwards. The problem was that the picnic tables are not in the shade of the trees, so we sat in the direct sun and I think it affected me because I’ve felt unwell all afternoon and have been in bed since 3.30pm.

Luckily, I had a whole lasagne in the freezer, so I threw that in the oven and took BGWLBH up on her offer to make a salad. I didn’t eat dinner and returned to bed once it was served.

Too much sun. Too much pedalling. Too much hooping. I have to remember that I’m 64, daily very inactive and even though I had a hat, two hours in the direct sun is not smart.

So now I’m going to sleep it off and hopefully wake up refreshed and ready for a day in The Bay.
