Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Artifying

It’s a new word that BGWLBH and I made up. It’s what we do in the art space.

We artify.

I did a jellyfish today.

It was a complete failure, but I know where I went wrong and I will have another attempt tomorrow and hopefully get it right.

There is a LOT wrong with it but I’m putting it here so that you can see the improvement in the next attempt.

It was way too muggy to leave the house and I decided quite early that we wouldn’t go to the Howard market. The ground would be soggy due to the recent rain and the muggy heat would make it way too uncomfortable to enjoy browsing the stalls.

There is condensation dripping down the inside of the windows because we have the air conditioner running 24/7.

We just need a good storm to clear the air and drop the temperature!

Harley only had one swim today and a couple of short games to release some energy.

I partly watched and partly dozed through “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” and I didn’t start dinner until quite late.

I crumbed some boneless chicken thighs and we had garden salad and coleslaw with it.

We played some TV trivia and I started to watch “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt (yum) but bed called to me after about 40 minutes so I’ll watch the rest tomorrow.

So it’s sleep time for me.

Oppressively Hot

Chicken eggs and Covid virus

Harley has been practising his diving!

The heat is muggy and oppressive here at the moment. The pool water is warm and not at all refreshing so we stay inside where it’s cool in the air con.

I put together my new office chair that has been sitting in the box for about a month. It took less than 15 minutes so I was pretty impressed with myself.

I framed a picture that BGWLBH had created and hung it on the wall.

I painted a canvas black and I intend painting a jellyfish on it tomorrow.

We played some trivia this evening and I watched some Australian Idol episodes that I recorded during the week.

Now I’m feeling very weary so it’s sleep time.

New Plan

Last night, after a day of squally rain, our weather app showed that the wet weather was going to continue for another ten days, so BGWLBH and I cancelled our planned drive into Maryborough for the markets this morning.

At 5.30am as I was waking from my slumber, I received a text from BGWLBH saying “The skies are clear. Do you want to go to Maryborough?”

“Yes!”

So off we drove, leaving Adoring Husband in charge of Harley Turdburger.

There weren’t many stalls lining the street. I think the predicted weather put a lot of people off, but I found the GF donut man and bought 4 donuts, the Indian cuisine man sold me some hot mango chutney, I got pomegranates, mangoes and lychees from the farmers market and that’s it! Oh I found some doggy treats for Harley too (which he loves).

We sat down to eat breakfast at Alowishus Delicious which was pleasant.

We found a little art store and spent some money there and finally did a quick squiz through Station Square before heading home.

We stopped at Olivers for some coffee beans and then at Tin and Timber in Torbanlea for a couple of coverlets to protect the lounge from Harley.

We were home by 11am and I spent a good portion of the day on some training sessions with Harley teaching him, SIT, DOWN and STAY, swimming in the pool and playing fetch. I think I wore both of us out.

I cooked spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread for dinner.

We played TV trivia and watched MAFS.

It’s time to sleep now.

Drenching

Our morning with the art girls at the Lions Park was abruptly cut short when a storm appeared and absolutely hammered us! The winds were cyclonic and the raindrops BIG and FULL!

This is what I looked like after running about 20 feet through the storm to the car …

Harley was a little bit restless during the morning but reasonably well behaved.

Adoring Husband had driven into The Bay to run some errands so when we arrived home, I cooked a late breakfast (10am) and we adjourned to the art room where BGWLBH completed 3 pieces of art and started 2 others while I still haven’t fully completed my zebras! Just a couple of finishing touches left …

Very therapeutic.

I’m not sure what I’ll try next.

I made fruit smoothies for everyone at 1.30pm, watched my quiz shows and dozed on the couch before making duck breast with chilli mulberry sauce and served with mash, beans, carrots and charred zucchini for dinner.

Vegan Chickie and Mr Perfect are celebrating their second wedding anniversary today. Happy anniversary you two and may there be many more just as happy as the last 2!

The weather has been very squally and unpredictable today and it seems the forecast is for similar weather over the next week or so. Harley will be tearing his fur out missing out on his swims and exercise. I will be tearing my hair out while he turns into a fruit loop!

Oh! AH purchased, at my request, one these today …

It should be fun playing this with Harley.

Anyway, sleep time for me now.

Desperate

I accidentally bounced Harley’s ball into the pool. It took him a while to decide what to do next …

Today, I added some more to my zebras …

And some more to the heart owls …

That’s if for today.

Punishment

Harley was not happy that I left the house without him today and decided to punish me by taking some paperwork off the family room table to chew. Important paperwork regarding our financial planning that required signing and returning!

Harley Turd Burger.

I even bought him a new ball, frisbee, travel water bottle and three bags of his favourite treats while I was in The Bay!

I made it up to him by taking him for a swim and playing fetch …

BGWLBH and I did some art this evening before playing TV trivia and then watching MAFS.

No dinner because I made turkey mince tacos for a late lunch.

It’s been a fairly busy and productive day. I needed a nap at 4.30pm but didn’t lie down because I knew I wouldn’t sleep tonight. Now I’m feeling weary again.

Winning!

Code designated for the unvaccinated  click on the link to see how it’s becoming reminiscent of WWII. We are being tagged … why?

Congratulations to Novak Djokovic for winning the Australian Open for the tenth time and it being his 22nd Grand Slam win overall. Also taking the Number 1 spot again.

He was hounded by the media. Criticised relentlessly. Judged unfairly every single day. Played every match under incredible pressure but his mental strength and focus saw him through to the end and that says a lot about the man he is.

Against all odds, he was successful.

He is my hero and not just on the tennis court.

Today I did some art. Two pieces because I had to fill in time while the first one was drying. Obviously, neither of them are finished yet, both are works in progress, so we’ll see how they go in the coming days …

Even though it was frustrating that some of my paints are so old that they have ‘turned’, it was still very therapeutic.

We swam in the pool with Harley and played games with him.

Adoring Husband and I watched a couple of movies. BGWLBH and I watched two episodes of “Miracle Workers” on Stan.

I cooked a whole chicken with baked vegetables and gravy - the usual Sunday tradition now that BGWLBH is living here.

It’s after 11pm. Best get some sleep.

Relaxing All Over

Excess deaths in 30 countries

Swimming … alone AND with Harley.

Playing with Harley. All three of us took turns throughout the day.

Watched an old 1972 movie “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” starring Paul Newman, Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins, Jacqueline Bisset  and Victoria Principal along with many familiar faces like Stacie Keach.

Dozing on the couch in the afternoon.

Resting in bed before cooking dinner.

Honey garlic chilli chicken with mash, coleslaw and garden salad.

Watching the Woman’s Tennis Final right now while Adoring Husband snores in the chair beside me.

BGWLBH did some art.

I think we are attending the markets in the morning and taking Harley with us - that should be an interesting experience - his first market and first time walking through crowds. A good training opportunity.

I shall now go to bed and watch the final set of the tennis.

Almost Over

The Australian Open tennis is almost over for another year.

Today was fabulous tennis with Tsitsipas and Djokovic both winning so they’ll meet in the final on Sunday. What a great match that will be! I can’t wait!

Two strong women in Rybakina and Sabalenka to play tomorrow and the men’s doubles will be great with a couple of unseeded Aussies fighting for the trophy. They wiped out the number one seeds to get here so good luck to them!

Harley had quite a few swims today and now he’s diving in the deep end and completely submerging himself before swimming his laps! What a daredevil he is.

The water is very warm now so it’s not as refreshing as it could be. Today, we put the umbrella up to provide some shade and hopefully cool the water down. I dislike swimming in a warm pool.

We spent some time in the art space but I didn’t do any art. BGWLBH did. She powers through all sorts of different art ideas. She’s a freak.

She prepared this delicious platter for lunch today …

I didn’t eat lunch.

I dozed on the couch for about 30 minutes.

Adoring Husband spent about seven hours on his feet, clearing out his shed and doing some odd jobs around the yard - not good for his injured foot so we’ll see how that pulls up tomorrow.

The usual chicken wings for dinner, followed by some TV trivia before the tennis started.

I think I require an early night - the tennis has been keeping me up past my usual bed time and it’s catching up with me.

Cane-Toad. What Happened To Baz?

What do you do on Australia Day?

Laze around the pool.

Swim with the dog.

Make zucchini slice for lunch.

Watch some tennis.

Do some art.

Cook lamb cutlets on the barbecue and serve with loads of vegetables then follow it up with stewed rhubarb and apple with vanilla coconut ice cream.

Drool.

Watch more tennis.

Go to bed.
