Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

To Market

We arrived at Howard markets pretty close to 7am and found a parking space nice and close - which was a good thing because we had to offload our goodies 3 times!

We got:

  • some avocado oil hand and body lotion
  • some pure avocado oil
  • a bracelet for Chicklet which I’ll send with her next letter
  • 3 coloured concrete worms (yellow, purple and green) for the pool garden
  • a Hoya plant
  • 2 air plants
  • a plant similar to a chain of hearts
  • 5 mini succulents
  • a rattan bag
  • a pr of rainbow coloured overalls
  • a big bag of treats/goodies for Harley
  • HEAPS of fruit n veg including 3 pineapples (so sweet and juicy), a whole watermelon, dragon fruit, passionfruit, plums, grapes, apples, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, papaya and more.
  • Frozen mango cheeks
  • A mini poo bag holder
I think that’s all. I can’t remember.

There were so many dogs and their owners. I wish I’d taken Harley.

We started with take away coffee so that provided us with the energy to wander the markets for more than two hours and it was delicious!

We ran into a couple of people that we know and stopped for a brief chat.

Our plan was to go to Nikenbah markets on Sunday too but we found everything we needed at Howard so Sunday will probably be an art day for us instead.

When we arrived home, I unpacked everything, made bacon and eggs for BGWLBH and took Harley outside to play in the pool area for about an hour.

I prepared an early lunch and made myself comfortable for an afternoon of football.

I’ve only missed one game so far in the tipping comp!

I spent another 30 minutes playing with Harley before cooking dinner. We each had a different meal. I had 1/4 of a papaya. AH had crumbed fish with mash and stir fried vegetables and BGWLBH had chilli chicken with the same vegetables.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Early Rising

Harley woke me at 5.15am so I took him outside to pee and then brought him back to bed for 45 minutes. I wasn’t able to fall asleep but it was nice to just lie in silence and meditate for some of the time.

A nice way to start my day.

I sent Adoring Husband to the shop for some bacon and made bacon and eggs for BGWLBH and AH. I made French toast with banana, bacon and maple syrup for myself.

AH received a phone call providing a quote to repair his mower. It’s a LOT but hopefully we’ll get another couple of years out of it. It’s 14 years old so it’s served us well.

I spent some time with Harley in the pool area and after AH got back from his coffee date, BGWLBH and I drove into The Bay.

We had a list which took us about 3 hours to complete and we arrived home at 3.30pm.

I spent another hour with Harley playing soccer and fetch. We need a better quality soccer ball because his teeth have pierced the cheap one we have. He’s a great soccer player!

We had the usual Friday night fare for dinner.

We watched 2 games of footy. Auckland Warriors defeated Newcastle Knights by 8 points and my beloved Broncos defeated last years premiers, Penrith Panthers, by one point! What a game!

After 3 games, I’m leading the tipping comp.

Now it’s late and we are off to an early start tomorrow to visit Howard markets, so I’d best get some sleep.

Bad Dog!

When I got up to take Harley out this morning, Adoring Husband was draped on the couch in the family room. The same couch where I usually start my day having puppy cuddles.

So Harley gave AH morning cuddles instead and I decided to leave them to it and return to bed.

That was probably my first mistake.

The 2nd mistake was allowing him to swim in the pool and then locking him out of the house until he dried. He doesn’t like being locked out.

Harley, I’m certain, decided to find ways to punish me for the rest of the day.

He dug up three different plants out of their pots, found some paper towel and chewed it up in the back yard, peed ON the couch in the Bali hut (what the heck was THAT all about!?), stole a sock and dug his hole a bit deeper.

Everyone is cranky with Harley today.

I did some art today. Added a bit more to this one …

I watched my quiz shows and did NOT take a nap!

For dinner, crispy skinned chicken with a chilli pineapple sauce served with sweet potato chips and stir fried vegetables. I made a mushroom concoction but forgot to serve it so AH ate it while he cleaned up the kitchen.

We played trivia before the first NRL game of the season came on. Melbourne Storm defeated Parramatta Eels in a very close game that went into extra time.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Can You Believe It?

Covid experts now debunked

It’s already March! Can you believe it?

Thursday (2nd March) will be the 44th anniversary of Jamie’s death. Jamie was my first born and he died of SIDS in 1979 at the age of 16 weeks. A lifetime ago, but sometimes still very fresh and raw.

This morning, after a play with Harley and a swim in the pool, I cooked up some vegetables and mixed them with raw mince to make up meal packs to freeze for Harley.

I had just enough time to get ready for coffee date with the art girls. Harley was very happy to climb into the basket of the trike and ride along with me. He’s almost too big for the basket so I may need to rethink that.

There were only three of us in attendance but it was beautiful weather and the conversation flowed for just over an hour. One of us had to leave for work and one was heading into The Bay so Harley and I were home by 10.30am.

Adoring Husband had just arrived home from his trip into The Bay where he had dropped off the ride on lawn mower for repair and picked up his new ‘made to order’ ladder from Bunnings.

BGWLBH and I drove to pick up the FROG box from Craignish and did some local grocery shopping for lunch.

BGWLBH created a beautiful fruit platter with zucchini slice, sliced ham and a couple of dips with crackers, which was lovely.

She spent lots of time in the art space creating some lovely work.

I lay on the couch with Harley for a while and then joined AH in the lounge room to watch my quiz shows. I was a bit late for my nap and woke at 5pm just in time to cook dinner - honey, lemon chilli chicken with crunchy buttered beans, carrot, zucchini and bacon.

I didn’t eat dinner. I felt very dehydrated so I drank a LOT of filtered water instead.

It’s almost 11.30pm so I should be asleep.

Couldn’t Be Bothered

I just didn’t have the energy, motivation or desire to post here on Monday night, so I said to myself “Self, go to sleep. Don’t worry about the blog.”

So that’s exactly what I did.

BGWLBH and I had spent the day in The Bay and were exhausted.

Today was fun with Harley …

The three of us wore him out today. We took turns.

Nothing else happened today, apart from me crumbing a stack of chicken thighs for dinner and serving them with sweet potato chips, garden salad and a sweet and spicy dipping sauce.

Watched MAFS.

I’m struggling to keep my eyes open tonight so I’m off to sleep now.

Out Of It

Today was a wipe out.

I struggled to get out of bed this morning but Harley forced me to get up.

By 10.0am I was so exhausted I returned to bed and slept until almost 1pm.

I sat on the couch all afternoon watching Netflix movies.

I cooked a baked dinner with chicken.

I watched MAFS and Australian Idol.

That’s it.

I think, given the opportunity, I could have slept all day.

Such a blah day feeling so lethargic and unmotivated and uninspired.

I hope that tomorrow helps me find some renewed vim and vigour.

So Tired

I added a lot of gold leaf to my dragonfly and then scraped it off.

Ready to try again tomorrow.

Most of today was spent watching Netflix movies with Adoring Husband and playing with Harley between movies.

I cooked pork ribs and vegetable n haloumi shishkebabs for dinner.

I’m feeling incredibly tired and it is now 11.30pm.

A draft of the bands selected for Woodstock …

So, nite all.

Memories

I’m watching the movie “Smokey and the Bandit” on TV and remembering how my Dad loved this movie. I think he had a ‘thing’ for Sally Field.

Looking back I think he had a ‘type’. Evie Tornquist …

… and Sally Field …

They have very similar looks and they were both tiny in stature.

Interesting.

My day was similar to all my other days.

In the art room I began experimenting with gold leaf and some glue that I had in my drawer. BGWLBH has given me some special leaf glue to try tomorrow.

I slept on the couch for an hour … as usual.

Adoring Husband and I watched a couple of Netflix movies.

We all played trivia after dinner winning one each.

Harley has had the attention of all three of us at some stage today and we girls debugged the garden getting rid of caterpillars and grasshoppers and bad bugs.

Harley dived into the pool and then dived on ME! I was wearing my pyjamas at the time.

Time for sleeping now.

Lining Up

There is a line of storms coming from the south and crossing over us dumping some nice rain. I’m looking forward to finishing this post and falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof.

I started my day with Harley in the pool area. We played for about 90 minutes until I was ready to play in the art space.

My motivation lasted for about 90 minutes and I had to wait for paint to dry properly before the next stage so this is how far I got with my dragonfly …

I slept on the couch - an afternoon nap has become a regular habit for me! I must be getting old!

Honey chilli chicken with salsa and sweet potato chips was dinner.

We watched a Netflix movie before bed.

Harley is sleeping soundly and I will be too, very shortly.

Triple Bunger

Three parcels arrived in the mail today.

  1. Adoring Husband’s new Cronulla Sharks shirt.
  2. Some oil of clove bathroom cleaning product.
  3. Two pairs of overalls for BGWLBH and I to wear when we do art.
Unfortunately the overalls were Asian sizes so I ordered a ‘large’ for me when I would normally wear ‘small’ - they fit comfortably, but BGWLBH’s (a different style) don’t fit her. They are a touch small which is very disappointing.

I love mine because they are colourful (a bit of a 70s patchwork style) and comfortable.

We had a pleasant morning at the Lions Park with the girls. We hadn’t seen each other for 3 weeks so we had plenty to catch up on.

Harley was happy in the back of the trike and I took him for a long walk when we arrived, hoping to tire him out a bit so that he would sit and behave. He lasted for about an hour, then got restless. He happily rode home in the back of the trike again and then slept for most of the day.

Adoring Husband drove to pick up the FROG box.

BGWLBH did some art.

I napped on the couch because I think the trike ride against the wind tired me out!

Lamb chops with lamb rissoles with salad and sweet potato chips for dinner.

MAFS of course.

Suddenly, it’s almost 11pm!  Harley is restless in bed tonight and not settling at all. I’ve taken him outside thinking he might need to toilet, but he just sat down on the ground beside me and did nothing. I don’t know what’s going on with him.

Weird.

Well, sleep time for me.

The Art of …

The art of letter writing.

I sent a letter writing pack to Chicklet for her birthday and asked if she would write to me. Tonight I decided to write to her first. I bought stickers today so that I could put stickers on the letter and envelope and I also found a little plastic card with lovely words about granddaughters, so I included that.

I’ll post it tomorrow morning.

My YouTube channel has about 6 videos of Harley on it and one of them has more than 100,000 views! How crazy is that!?

There are lots of comments under the video telling me how cruel I am for making him go into the pool to get his ball.

People are weird.

BGWLBH and I spent the day in The Bay.

While she was attending a Doctor’s appointment, I went to Tinkerbell’s where I put some jewellery on layby. It’s going to take a while to pay it off. I also purchased a birthday gift for BGWLBH and then on my third lap around the shop, I found some books, affirmation cards and a meditation journal.

I bet they rub their hands with glee when they see me coming.

There is a dress shop nearby that I popped into and tried a couple of tops on, but they didn’t quite sit right, so they remained in the shop.

Nana’s Pantry for antiinflammatea.

Office Works for white pens, paint brushes and sheets of stickers.

Spotlight for paint brushes, stickers, dot brushes and scrunchies.

Pet barn for liver treats.

Stocklands for bread, groceries, fresh fruit, lotto tickets and fresh juice.

It was quite late when we arrived home, so I set aside some time for Harley and he played fetch and swam in the pool for about 30 minutes.

I cooked butter chicken with rice and papadums for dinner.

Then MAFS was on the TV agenda.

It took me an hour to write Chicklet’s letter and now it’s rapidly approaching midnight so I’d best sleep.

Forecast Fail

There was no rain forecast for today but it has rained many times and currently, it is quite heavy.

Very annoying for Adoring Husband who was attempting to mow lawns.

I spent a couple of hours with Harley in the pool area, followed by an hour in the art room, followed by another hour IN the pool swimming and floating.

Tacos for lunch.

Dozing on the couch this afternoon.

No dinner. AH cooked himself some lamb loin chops on the barbecue and I put together a small salad for him. We girls were still full of tacos from lunch.

I watched the last Breaking Dawn movie this afternoon before watching MAFS.

That was my very ordinary day.
