Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

House Hunting

We drove to Childers and stopped at a cafe where I had a melon frappe and BGWLBH had a coffee. We were so early, that, with time to kill, we walked to the shoe shop to browse.

No shoes took my fancy, but I did like a leather handbag which is the same brand as my current arm candy. It was so similar to the one I use most often, I couldn’t justify spending the very high price, so it remains on the shelf looking pretty.

From there, we headed to Cordalba to look at a house.

The photos of this house, on the website, are from three years ago when it was almost new and in pristine condition. The gardens were newly landscaped and neatly manicured. The inside of the home was light and bright, clean and fresh. All the little areas outside had a specific purpose, were well maintained and provided lovely surprises as you rounded the corners.

The current reality of this house is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

While the front garden is still looking presentable, the rest is overgrown, untidy, dirty and without purpose.

The double carport has a big shipping container filling half of it and the rest of it is filled with tools, rubbish, smelly oil stains and bits and pieces.

The fence looks freshly broken with about ten palings laying scattered on the ground.

Inside the house is dark, gloomy, dirty, untidy and smelly. There were six dogs inside and obviously spending a LOT of time in the main bedroom which wreaked of dog pee and poop.

There were broken tiles on the floor, no town water, a septic system, two large corrugated iron water tanks and all those lovely little areas could hardly even be defined anymore.

It needs a lot of TLC to bring it back to its original beauty and glory.

Its price tag needs to be reduced by about $80,000.

The real estate agent seemed to be embarrassed by its condition and implied that it had deteriorated over the last month.

Needless to say, our interest has waned considerably.

Feeling deflated, we returned to Childers, shopped in the cheap shop and the lady’s clothing boutique where I found a gorgeous top - which I gave to Adoring Husband to wrap for my Christmas gift. So I’ve purchased a beautiful ring and this top for him to give me for Christmas haha.

We were going to detour through Buxton to look at other houses, but the weather was so hot and uncomfortable, we decided to drive directly home.

While we were gone, the new pool guy came to our house and fixed our mould/algae problem! Even though we can’t swim in it for at least a week, it already looks as good as new and I feel very happy with the results!

Now it’s time for me to sleep. Meditation and Qi Gong tomorrow.

Sunday Bingeing

Today, I binge watched the UK version of MAFS for about 4 or 5 hours.

Total trash.

I love it!

Dinner was tuna bake with salad.

That’s it.

Tomorrow, BGWLBH and I are off to look at houses while Adoring Husband stays home to wait for the new pool guy. In a week, our pool water has turned almost completely green and we desperately need him to fix it.

We are in the middle of a heat wave and can’t even use our pool!

That’s it for my Sunday … I can hear a helicopter flying above us as I write this.

Stormy Weather

Have you ever thought about this?

In 100 years, like in 2123, we will all be buried with our relatives and friends.

Strangers will live in the homes we fought so hard to build, and they will own everything we have today. All of our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, probably in the hands of an unknown collector.

Our descendants will hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather's father?

After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone's bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos and deeds disappear in history's oblivion. We won't even be memories.

If we paused one day to analyse these questions, perhaps we would understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was.

If we could only think about this, surely our approaches and our thoughts would change. We would be different people.

Always having more. No time for what's really valuable in this life. I'd change all this to live and enjoy the walks I've never taken, these hugs I didn't give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn't have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all they would fill our lives with joy.

And some of us waste it day after day with greed, selfishness and intolerance.

Every minute of life is priceless and will never be repeated, so take time to enjoy, be grateful for, and celebrate your existence.

*Unknown*

No play in the pool area for a while. We had a problem with a black mould which is caused by the airborne dust lifted by the work in the new estates in the area. It’s not dangerous to our health BUT in the last week, green mould has rapidly taken over and it IS dangerous to our health.

Our new pool guy can’t come until Monday and he’s going to hit the water with heavy duty chemicals so it’s going to be a week to ten days before we can use the pool. This is problematic because it’s freaking HOT!

Anyway Harley and I are playing fetch without the cooling assistance of the pool. Harley gets over heated after ten minutes and it takes a good 45 minutes to cool down and stop his rapid panting.

We already miss the pool.

I spent a good portion of the day in The Bay with BGWLBH.

We were hoping to pick up our usual egg order but since the Happy Hippy’s dog travelled over the rainbow bridge, the foxes now come onto the property and one of the chickens was taken, sending the others into shock and they are not laying.

Very sad for the chickens AND us.

We’ve had some good storms tonight with heavy rain. Without looking at the gauge, I’m guessing that we’ve had around 40mm of rain, maybe more.

It’s time for bed now.

Unproductive Me

ATTENTION TO ALL PARENTS WHO NEED TO TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA 🎅

Son: "Dad, I think I'm old enough now. Is there a Santa Claus?."

Dad: "Ok, I agree that your old enough. But before I tell you, I have a question for you. You see, the “truth” is a dangerous gift. Once you know something, you can't unknow it.

Once you know the truth about Santa Claus, you will never again understand and relate to him as you do now.

So my question is: Are you sure you want to know?"

Brief pause...

Son: "Yes, I want to know"

Dad: "Ok, I'll tell you: Yes there is a Santa Claus"

Son: "Really?"

Dad: Yes, really, but he's not an old man with a beard in a red suit. That's just what we tell kids. You see, kids are too young to understand the true nature of Santa Claus, so we explain it to them in a way that they can understand.

The truth about Santa Claus is that he's not a person at all; he's an idea.

Think of all those presents Santa gave you over the years.

I actually bought those myself.

I watched you open them.

And did it bother me that you didn't thank me?

Of course not!

In fact it gave me great pleasure.

You see, Santa Claus is THE IDEA OF GIVING FOR THE SAKE OF GIVING, without thought of thanks or acknowledgement.

When I saw that woman collapse on the subway last week and called for help, I knew that she'd never know that it was me that summoned the ambulance.

I was being Santa Claus when I did that."

Son: "Oh."

Dad: "So now that you know, you're part of it. You have to be Santa Claus too now. That means you can never tell a young kid the secret, and you have to help us select Santa presents for them, and most important, you have to look for opportunities to help people. Got it?"

Help each other this Christmas🎄🎅 and...be kind ❤💕

Today was a MOST unproductive day.

I played with Harley and cooked my breakfast and planted my butt on the couch for the entire day.

I have nothing to declare.

Except … my current husband phoned my X-husband to discuss his experience with Deep Brain Stimulation.

Parkinson’s disease AND me are the common denominators with my husbands!

Anyway, my X-husbands experience was very positive and he had a very successful outcome, no longer suffering the symptoms that were so debilitating prior to the surgery.

I received a phone call from Number One Son who seems to be doing ok, although he’s still in hospital. With a little help, he’ll be ok.

For two days in a row the weather bureau has forecast dangerous storms for us. Gale force winds, giant hail and flash flooding. As per usual, that giant line of dangerous storms split in two, parted ways, and completely missed us.

The weather bureau even told us that wouldn’t happen this time!

Pfffft!

Anyway, it’s 9pm and I’m going to fall asleep while watching “Legally Blond 2”.

A Rare Visit

 🐾 POEM OF A DOG

I'm the one who's always waiting for you.

Your car has a special sound that I have imprinted on my senses, I can recognize it in a thousand.

Your steps have a magic bell.

Your voice is music to my ears.

If I see your joy, it makes me happy!.

Your scent is the best.

Your presence moves my senses.

Your waking up wakes me up

I contemplate you sleeping and for me you are my God, I am happy watching your sleep.

Your look is a ray of light.

Your hands upon me, hold the lightness of peace and the sublime display of infinite love.

When you leave, I feel a huge void in my heart.

I keep waiting for you again and again.

I am the one who will wait for you all your life today, tomorrow and forever:

I am your dog.

I had a productive day.

Harley play.

A load of washing.

The bathroom and toilet got a ‘thorough’ cleaning.

I dusted.

I made a small platter.

I showered and washed my hair.

I did a tiny bit of art while I waited for my visitor.

I enjoyed 2.5 hours with my visitor, Sue V, who, until 8 months ago, owned our local supermarket and has now moved south.

It was such a lovely visit with lots of giggles. We really miss our chats.

At 4.30pm we hugged goodbye.

I played with Harley again and made a quick spaghetti bolognese for dinner.

Now it’s time to sleep.

Have You Wondered?

Some 5G Truths

I spent half the day in The Bay running errands for Adoring Husband and doing the rounds of our favourite shops as well as a stop at Stocklands.

It felt like everyone was out doing their Christmas shopping and it was difficult finding a parking space at all the shopping centres.

The weather was hot, muggy and uncomfortable.

We picked up the FROG box on the way home.

This afternoon, I played with Harley, did two loads of washing, packaged up Harley’s daily meals and packaged up the bone broth to freeze.

Dinner was chilli mango chicken, baked pumpkin and potato with garlic butter asparagus and beans.

It’s already after 11pm. Time to sleep.

Please Release!

Tuesday is meditation day and today’s meditation was timely and relevant.

Afterwards, during Qi Gong, The Gypsy taught us about the acupressure meridians and showed us where to massage our own bodies to clear the channels that connect our internal organs.

Every part of my body, except my arms, had massive knots and blocks. The pain when I pressed the pressure points was quite intense and I gave them a solid go!

I may have over done it.

The Gypsy didn’t hang around for chats today because she wanted to beat the rain home, which meant I arrived home about 90 minutes earlier than usual.

I chopped up and prepared vegetables for Harley meals and then filled the slow cooker with goodies for bone broth and set it for 16 hours.

Harley and I got to play for about 20 minutes before the rains came.

I moved into my art space, unwrapped each individual new pen, and did some more to my art …

My tummy began to feel a bit funny so I decided to lie down in bed for a while. Ninety minutes later I was sitting on the toilet throwing up in a bucket which I placed strategically between my knees 🤢.

This was the outcome after my self inflicted massage on my meridian points! I did too good a job! I released too much too quickly and my body couldn’t cope.

While it didn’t feel pleasant at the time, it was good to purge and after a good nights sleep, I should be full of vim and vigour tomorrow.

Adoring Husband and BGWLBH had to fend for themselves for dinner.

I made myself some toast and anti-inflammatea when my tummy felt ready.

Harley and I are now in bed ready to sleep.

Advantageous

While I don’t understand why we have the Black Friday sales in Australia because it originated in USA on the day after Thanksgiving, I got to take advantage of the sales today and replaced some of my t-shirts that darling Harley has destroyed in his first year of puppyhood.

I purchased five lady’s t-shirts at $13 each! Bargain!

I tried, again, to find Adoring Husband’s Clive Cussler book but it’s still on the truck heading towards our QBD bookstore and should arrive some time this week.

Our pool is in dire need of assistance from a pool maintenance professional, so I stopped at Poolside in Main Street and applied for their gold service. Hopefully we’ll hear from them soon.

It was great to have Su Jus cafe reopened and we grabbed juices today. Their signs said they were closed for refurbishing, but it doesn’t look any different to me. Maybe they just wanted a holiday?

Despite my trip into The Bay, Harley still got plenty of play time with me.

We received some nice light rain this evening.

Now I’m off to sleep. As long as the rain isn’t heavy, I have meditation and Qi Gong tomorrow. The Gypsy won’t drive the 2.5 hour return trip in heavy rain. Wait and see.
